Too girly, gay, whiny, gay, girly looking, gay, too thin, high voice, gay hair, gay, gay, stupid, ugly, unmanly, weak, scrawny, gay, gay pansy, coward, gay coward etc. etc. etc.

Words/descriptions I don't think are fair to use on him (not that I ever mean to use gay in a bad way, just this is what other people are saying). I think he was a good character and the story told from his perspective was amazing and really I wouldn't have had it done any other way.

i dont ever remember him being a coward. maybe i should replay again.

i think it just comes down to the fact that people were expecting to play snake, and barely got to. i didnt mind, it still had a great storyline.

I know, people unfairly describe him like that because they also think he looks 't3h ghey' and associate it with cowardly features, although there is absolutely no evidence of such in the game.

I do understand the not playing as Snake, and I do understand why they unfairly label Raiden, I just don't like it and it's really doesn't help you explore his character and really even inhibits talking about MGS2 as a game because everyone is so quick to jump to 'Raiden is ghey.' I just find it absurdly annoying.

Why does everyone have to make fun of Raiden. I loved MGS and I didn't hate Raiden! I like Solid Snake better, but still, MGS2 and Raiden was still awesome fun!

Yeah, MGS2 was an excellent title, but that doesn't negate the fact that Raiden had an overly effeminate look to him in that game (what they refer to as "Bishounen" in Japan). That was all I was pointing out. I don't think we're going to get another dose of androgyny in MGS4 is all I'm saying.

I just didn't like Raiden, because he was completely uninteresting... I was not interested in his birth and youth in eastern Europe etc etc...

Metal Gear was always about Snake... nobody else, that's why I was so damn disappointed after the Tanker episode... Really really disappointed. And Rose was so goddamn annoying!!

I liked the game, no question, but I didn't like the main protagonist...

It is like when you suddenly play as a sexually insecure Barney in HL2... It just is not the same game... The "worst" about it, is actually we were led to believe we were playing as Solid Snake, not some "bad" doppelganger for the sake of making it more interesting to the female gamers (Kojima said, iirc, that he made Raiden to appeal to the female gaming crowd).

I mean, just look at, what he did in MGS3... Put on the Mask and call Major Zero/Tom... He just plainly says "it is just wrong"^^

but that "it's just wrong" wasnt even a stab at Raiden. Kojima likes raiden. and i really liked how we were led to believe we would play as snake. Those whole reason kojima did that was because it served the games main narative "information control" he forced us to believe that we would play as snake because he conroled what we saw in trailers. Just like in the game it is talked about how the government conrols the poeple by how much they are letting them see. MGS2 was genius.

Well, I have the MGS2 cutscenes (and most of the codec stuff) as AVIs here and watched it plenty times...

I know the story of MGS2 very well and I know there are connections into the real world (Kojima being GW sorta) and such, but still, I just did not like the main char in MGS2... It just didn't feel right.

I mean, all ads never showed Raiden, not even the game packaging did. It has a pic of Snake on it! It's like false advertising in some way^^ (don't take this seriously).

It is just... Imagine Halo 3, where you only play 1/8th of the way as Master Chief and the rest as a crossdressing alien (nothing against crossdressers, but just for the sake of comparison), but nobody says anything about it beforehand... It is just wrong! Kojima himself had regrets for the decision of making Raiden the main character (he said, he was "sorry" (iirc), that he let down the Snake fans (no literal quote!!).

But now Kojima says, Snake is THE main character... MGS3 was alright, as it was also Snake (on a genetic level at least^^). Also, now he made Raiden "overly cool"... It is very strange... Is that his way to apologize to his fans or what? (tbh, I thought Raiden now is just... well it is also wrong... He is no Raiden from MGS2, he is a Robocop version of him^^, but this is how Kojima makes his games).

Of course, nobody expected it, as nothing was said about it earlier on. But still, he was a "gamebreaker" for me... I built up a hate for this character over time... Every time I met Pliskin, I hoped for something like "let me take over", but it never happened.

I was really let down by it... I dunno, I was still a great game, but for me, it rates even lower than the two Ac!ds, tensionwise.

I feel for you man, it would suck to not be able to enjoy the second in the main series....

It was the first MGS I played, MGS2, playing as Raiden probably gave me less of a shock. Still a shock none the less as I had no idea who the ***k he was either lol, playing as Snake in the Tanker Demo all the time.

I remember the first time you see him. He's swimming up through the filtration area or whatever and I was like 'Who the hell is this skinny dude? That can't be Snake... this must be a joke or just for a small part of the game...'

Then I see Raiden, so I was like wtf? At this time, I wasn't into online gaming news and forums so I guessed that every one was expecting this but me lol!

Anyway... I'm glad I didn't develop your impression, I'm on the same page as LiquidEagle :P

I played through MGS 1, 2, and 3 all in two months. Raiden never left a dull experience on me, but for my friends that were waiting for a sequel to the first title were extremely let down by playing with Raiden basically the whole time. I went into it expecting it and overall I'd have to say it was a great experience for me. MGS2 is by far one, if not, the best experience I've had with this franchise. I didn't like MGS3 as much as I liked MGS2. I'm currently playing MGS:PO on my PSP, but that's been put on delay until I can get the brand new PSP to play on my HDTV. =)

It doesn't exist as far as im aware, i searched a few sites and found fonts very close to the type use in the MGS4 trailers but i wasnt happy with that so i had to cut each letter i needed from different names on the trailers XD

heres the few that i considered though :)

Really?That's very interesting! If they're still aiming for a simultaneous release, and considering that the source is the Japanese Konami site, I'd think the Japanese text would be more accurate, which means that it's still releasing in spring!?

Same here, but the VOA told over MSN me that he was experiencing the same thing.
I removed the redundant tag from my sig to no avail.

Could it be a virus trying to steal as many username/password combinations as possible, or just a bug?

It didn't appen a few hours ago though...

EDIT: Ok, I don't get it on this new page, so I suspect someone still has one of the old tags in his/her sig, and it's causing problems now that the site is gone. Could I please ask all of you to check your signatures?

This Just In... MGS4 goes to 360?

Today Hideo Kojima let something slip that hinted at a possible 360 port of the game to release alongside the PS3 version. During our interview with him, he ripped a magnificent fart that shook the windows and made the paint begin to peel off the walls. This could only mean one thing, that he is working on a 360 port of the game. When we asked him to clarify his position on a 360 port, he simply smiled and said "Pardon me, I think something slipped out there. I'll be right back." and then he exited for the bathroom. This is Sony's Halo 3 (actually it is better IMO, as it will sell like crazy in all 3 markets) so they need it to be perfect.

I doubt, it'll sell more than Halo 3, but it will sell very well, especially in the other markets than the US.

But we'll see

I have my doubts at times. I remember mgs SS being awesome and then my mind blanks from playing SOL or Substance (freaking confusing). That gay ass raiden killed it for me. Hmm mgs SS, fond memories.... the best moment that freaked me out was that psychotic mantis and telling which controller I had. I love that kind of interaction between the game and user. Uggh if they can do that again, then I'm in.

I m kind of on the fence with overdone sequels, Ubi milk the hell out of splinter cell. If Kojima can cut the gay stuff out like raiden, and octagon gay ass, it should be great.

I probably hate him for unsuspectingly (to me) taking Snake's place. I had the full intent of playing Snake until I found out that you had to play him. My whole reaction was wtf. It ruined mgs for me and couldn't keep up with the plot. I really wanted to go back but couldn't. Same reason why I can't go back to FF because of the CGI Go-Go all girl dancer music video during the game. It made the great games of the series before it like ff 7 lor mgs ss look like a distant memory and disgrace it. Both times, I threw down my controller in disgust and lost my faith with the series.

A few things about Raiden:
1- He sort of kind is in MGS3..if you see the resemblance.
2- Even Solid Snake thinks he's fruity
3- How does he get a cold for being naked? Solid Snake smoked cigarettes out in fucking Alaska while it was snowing and didn't so much as sneeze while wearing that tight ass muscle hugging suit
4- The first part of MGS2 (with Snake) was some of the most epic gangster shit in videogame history

Hideo Kojima isn't this mastermind you guys are making him out to be, he..
borrows his ideas from B-Movies and makes at best, another B-Movie within a game. MGS1 was great for it's direction, visuals, sound, etc, MGS2 the same thing, but the story in MGS2 got really loopy, MGS4, the next continuation I can only hope that he makes something a bit more coherent.

Still, I find it funny that MGS4 was used to push the PS3, yet MGS4 is being delayed probably because of how hard the PS3 is to use. I mean at this point, I am almost willing to bet they don't release MGS4 in US until fall 2008. Am I the only other person that remembers the E3 2006 Konami conference pamphlet that had a Xbox 360 logo and a scribble that said "Dear Mr. Kojima, Jump In?"

Just saying...there are easier systems out there to develop for..

His narrative isn't the brilliant part. the brilliant part are the themes he employs and the way he makes the gameplay tie into those themes.

Secondly, Snake does get sick. He can contract a cold in the Tanker Mission of MGS2.

Thirdly, Snake was injected with anti-freezing peptides before he was sent into Shadow Moses.

Fourthly, exactly, that is what Solid Snake is. Badass. Everyone who stands next to Snake is not badass during that time. He looks down on everyone because he's so badass (not literally). Raiden was not intended to be badass. Get some education from Lali's post.

Your own post is a big 'blah.' The fact alone that you missed all these things in MGS1 and 2 speaks for how much you even could hope to understand about it's intracacies.

Still, I find it funny that MGS4 was used to push the PS3, yet MGS4 is being delayed probably because of how hard the PS3 is to use. I mean at this point, I am almost willing to bet they don't release MGS4 in US until fall 2008. Am I the only other person that remembers the E3 2006 Konami conference pamphlet that had a Xbox 360 logo and a scribble that said "Dear Mr. Kojima, Jump In?"

Yea since we all know the reason MGS1 was on the Playstation because it was easier to develop for, and MGS2 was on ps2 because it was easier to develop for...oh wait..Keep hanging on to that hope that it will come to the 360 though.

I think it speaks VOLUMES for the series when a rumor like that just refuses to die, but then again, wanting it on there don't mean it will happen. Sooo, unless hell freezes over or Kojima announces otherwise, to play MGS4 you need that machine with the Cell Processor (Key to winning the console war)

In all seriousness though, it does suck that MGS4 isn't coming out for another good bit. I remember being at E3 2005 and they gave you some flyer for it, and it got me going, then at E3 2006 they had probably the most epic trailer for a videogame ever. I think I sat down and watched it on that huge ass screen with my neck cranned up in a position it shouldn't have to at least three times.

I remember reading a interview with Kojima in which he said something along the lines, that he made Raiden to appeal to the female and less action oriented gamer, which, in essence, flopped. Yes it sold well and yes it was a good game, but in the end, many people from the MGS crowd complained (me as well).

I don't care if the meme theme fits Raiden and that GW and all the stuff was spun quiet nicely, but I was still let down very much... I do not want to persuade anyone into my thinking, I just want to tell, how I felt about all this... I was let down, really. And to make matters worth, the very uncool (Raiden was NOT cool, no matter what you are saying^^) and whatever Raiden now gets a "coolness" makeover in MGS4 for (at least now) no reason whatsoever. It is just... how shall I put it... It is, as if you buy a cool looking car, which has no power whatsoever and then telling all your friends it packs a punch... And then, when they want to measure it, you fit in a new engine beforehand... It IS cheating^^

Kojima accepted the fans' reaction to Raiden, that's really it. He said so himself. He disagrees with the fanbase's reaction, but he understands the role he plays as a content creator, so after making fun of Raiden for 4 years after the Release of MGS2, (to again, cater to the fanbase's negative reaction) he brought him back as a badass to shut everyone up.

Also, I am getting a condenscending feel from some of the fans here like I don't "get" Raiden. I understand the themes, I understand he was being trained, I just didn't like it, the first part of MGS2 was perfect in every single way, and it was a punch in the balls to have to play him, even if he did have a little neat flip thing he did..now the plothole filled MGS2 story is another thing all together, but overall, even with being Raiden I throughly enjoyed the game, so it says a lot about the game when I can enjoy the experience with a character I don't much care for all the way through.

Its fine if you don't like him as long as you understand the point behind it. Also, he is badass now because well, he got more experienced and that was sort of the point. He became somewhat of a hardened veteran now. So in essence that shows of his progression and transformation. Going from a green rookie (remember Meryl from MGS1 being exact same way almost) to a soldier closer to Snake (at least closer then he was before)

EDIT: Yea what Lali said, just my version is how I tie it to the story of MGS. He flat out said I will make EVERYONE love Raiden, hence the crazy-ass ninja moves.

His suit was designed especially for operations in below-zero temperatures, and contained an advanced heating system. Snake had also been injected with nanomachines to keep him warm, IIRC.

It's also worth noting long before MGS4 was revealed I predicted Raiden would return as the ninja. He got the sword at the end of 2, it was clear he would. He would come back battle hardened and matured from the lessons he learned at Big Shell, and from Snake; an experienced soldier.

Thank you for the back up lol and saying things i was planning to say but was to damn tired. Raiden wasn't a pussy in my eyes, ever. His story made him totally hardcore from the go. Just the hair pissed me off a little but who cares about that. He's got the combat skills, the history of a child soldier and lets ot forget those pretty friggen awesome tats :P I dont think he's cool because he's in the suit now (well that does add to his awsomeness) but it was pretty leet in my eyes to begin with, just not as good as snake.

The things Raiden did were all sorts of badass. It's just that he looked like a fairy while doing them. Taking on a Harrier, slicing up the Arsenal Tengu, fucking up a shitload of Metal Gear Rays. All of this was incredible. It's just that he looked so damn goofy in the process of. The only Bishounen guy I can stand is KOF's Benimaru Nikaido. Broken English FTW "Do you underSTAND?!"
