I can't really count Cloud as bishounen simply because most bishounen characters aren't constantly drowning in a sea of their own angst.
You think Radien can handle Omnislash and neo bahamut? shit nez lol. Forget about Cloud, Radien from Mortal Kombat can take on Radien from mgs.

Not even snake could take on neo bahamut you twit. ffs lol stop comparing a fantasy character to a realism character. It's a dumb idea so dont do it.
Raiden Is a kick ass character, get over it :P Seriously i have no idea why anyone could think raiden was a sissy (better than pussy). He has been through so much shit since he was a child which 99.5% of the worlds population wouldnt survive through. Stop seeing his physical image and judging him purely on the blonde flowing hair and the slender build, its a stupid way of seeing who he is. IF you actually listened to MGS2s cut scenes and codecs then you would know how hardcore he is. But no doubt anyone who says raiden sucks is either comparing him to snake or skipped most of the codecs and scenes in MGS2. both very dumb ideas. Dont compare snake to anyone because they will just look silly :P and play through MGS2 again if you skipped the scenes because its a kick ass game with a really good story (just ignore fatman lol)
I know you all were hoping to play solid snake in the first ps2 MGS game but get over your little bitch fest about raiden taking over for a game. Its pathetic and lame. He served as a refreshing change from snake and im glad kojima made the change because if you played as snake through 2 i bet some people on here would be saying they are sick of snake. Instead we played as someone who was a sort of sleeker version of snake, he's skinnier, faster but a little green. I dont hold that against the character so why do others? No im not saying be like me, i play WoW so dont be like me :P Im saying stop anting the same thing churned out over and over. dont conform the the change is bad idealism that halo 3 went with. Thats what makes the MGS series so damn good in my opinion because the way each game is different.
I bet if there is a part in MGS4 where you get to play as raiden none of you will bitch. Because he looks cool now.

I don't think the game itself is based on realistic physics. Do you think Raiden in MGS4 would be able to stab himself and still be able to do all the crazy ass fighting if it was realistic. The nature of the game is kinda real, but when you get to the parts where people start using their special abilities that's when it takes a very quick downfall from realistic. In a sense you can kind of compare it to like Xmen or something because they have those weird magic powers.

Sorry i had to lol at that. Raiden didnt even feel that through his stomach. the only part of raiden left is his spine and head. The game is alot more real that FFVII. It's based in the future too so dont say cyborgs are bullshit :P and xmen is still more believeable that FF games. i didnt see monsters xmen? or demons? or any of that i saw the next evolution of the human race. the members of Dead cell and or foxhound are just the next evolution or a victim of genetic testing.

Not since 1. You play as Solid Snake in MGS2 for about 2 hours (if you're slow) and that's just to set the player up for the MGS1 "roadmap" expectations that we all had, to be thrown into MGS2 proper which is Raiden's character.

And as of now cyborgs are not realistic nor do they seem to be coming about in our life time. Keep it real bud. I never said FF seemed real now did I?

All Passive meant is that MGS is to be grounded realistically, not be absolutely real. He means in the environment and the capability of the regular person. MGS is 'grounded' in reality (general concepts of stealth, the environment developed with real world climates/areas in mind) even if it has supernatural beings and cyborgs and Octocamo and whatever else in it as well.

Okay first off its Helen of Troy not Ellen :P
secondly yes greek has awesome heroes. The original greek language wasn't from latin or even borrowed sentence structures, wording any of that. BUT through the evolution of the greek language Latin types and hints have been added to it and im talking as far back as 300bc. so sorry lol greek also got help from dead latin.
Not Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish either, but they're related far out anyway.
Okay these 3 are all germanic launguages. Which the lanuage they borrowed from borrowed from latin :P so wrong again XD
- Swedish (old swedish i mean, which as evolved into the swedish spoken today) has tell tail sign as early as 1280AD
- Noregian originally spoke Old Norse (which is the very early language most germanic tribes spoke, which lali menioned) but then was replaced with the later germanic speach which had latin incorperated into it due to christian crusades bringing latin.
- Same for the Daish language as it was for Norwegian.
So okay these languages didnt start off with a latin base but they sure as hell have it in them now. :P

PREVIEWS: Metal Gear Solid 4, MG Online
http://www.next-gen.biz/images/stories/edge_metal_gear_4_d.jpg
SCEA’s Peter Dille called it “the mother of all exclusives”, but is the recently delayed title shaping up to justify the hype?
First and foremost Metal Gear Solid 4 is a Metal Gear game, with its roots in that lineage almost overbearing at times. It is exactly like its predecessors in some of the most important and varied respects – often fluid, often fiddly, sometimes astonishingly tense and sometimes tedious.
Graphically, it is a great-looking game, despite it being a good two years since first sight. The setting is superbly realized, from blown-out buildings and cars to the dust trails that kick up in the wake of bullets. It is hardly exceptional in the smallest details, however, and the likes of Heavenly Sword have more realistically rendered characters, but this may be due to the typically strong characterization as much as the effects of ageing, and as with its predecessors MGS4 will likely be overhauled significantly before release. A major disappointment, however, is that despite all of the flashy graphical effects, shadows are not important. In a stealth game, with the power of PS3, enemies should be able to notice such things and respond accordingly. In the TGS demo, they did not.
Movement proves responsive and slick, with Snake’s ability to maneuver from any position a major new freedom. Sneaking up on enemies is much easier than it has been thanks to the combination of this and the camo suit, allowing you to move quickly and silently and take refuge almost anywhere in the scenery. It can feel unnatural at times, however, such as with the diving roll which ends with Snake standing upright and stopping his movement very briefly.
Combat, on the other hand, is unquestionably improved, with a shoulder camera and reticule or auto-aim feature available, and a huge range of options for taking down enemy soldiers.
http://www.next-gen.biz/images/stories/edge_metal_gear_4.jpg
There was a little too much emphasis in the demo on moving through set checkpoints to trigger cutscenes, while the structures around you look as though they should be of some use but contain nothing but dead ends and empty, boxy rooms. The structure of Metal Gear games has always excelled at giving opportunities for experimentation along a linear route, however, and it is likely the case here beyond what could be demonstrated in a short time.
However, the bigger problem is that the enemy AI on standard soldiers seems to have progressed little: their reactions upon discovering you are the same as they’ve always been – and it’s disappointing to see them pile out of an armored transport during an in-engine cutscene (which could easily have happened during play), beautifully animated and almost scarily realistic, and then once the game restarts reverting to the same tired patrol routes we’ve seen over and over again.
http://www.next-gen.biz/images/stories/edge_metal_gear_4_a.jpg http://www.next-gen.biz/images/stories/edge_metal_gear_4_b.jpg
Metal Gear Online
As regards the other half of MGS4, Metal Gear Online, a stand was set up at TGS with two teams of six facing off against the another in a relatively small map with a warehouse in the centre. It’s often hard to tell what kind of tone Kojima Productions is attempting to strike with Metal Gear games, but tongue-in-cheek moments are most definitely absent from MGO: it is a straight-up, tactical team shooter.
There is a range of options to choose from before beginning – you can select up to four specialties for your soldier, from proficiency with an assault rifle to a talent for CQC. When the game begins there’s a screen allowing you to choose your primary, secondary, and explosive/tactical weapons (such as grenades, smoke grenades and claymores).
A quick team salute will reveal the location of your team, shown as blue or red wire- frames through walls and obstacles, and a useful map shows their location and direction of interest, making it easy to direct group movement as well as follow formation.
http://www.next-gen.biz/images/stories/edge_metal_gear_online_a.jpg
Combat is like a more measured Gears Of War, based on tactical maneuvering, cover firing and team movements – your characters have less destructive capacity and move slower than Fenix and co, but overall the pattern of cover/retreat/advance/roll/shoot all seems very familiar. That is no bad thing, of course, and MGO works admirably well when grouped teams meet each other in tense standoffs.
The weapons also have the usual limitations: the machine-gun has recoil that makes it impossible to fire accurately in anything but bursts, while the shotgun is powerful but requires frequent, and slow, reloading.
The only uncomfortable feature is the close combat, which is a bit of a mess, but will be tightened up before release. MGO is enjoyable enough and a significant improvement over MGS3’s online play – the only problem is that it seems very much an online mode rather than a standalone game. Well made, certainly, but impossible to conceive of as anything other than a budget download for owners of MGS4.
Of course, both games doubtless have other tricks up their sleeves and this isn’t the full Metal Gear story. But in terms of MGS4, what can be inferred from the TGS demos is that it is another progression for the series, but perhaps a somewhat more linear one than was hoped for. No change, then, when perhaps change is just what is needed.

As for the sound :P dont worry Smokes the sound will be amazing. Better than COD4 even. Wanna know why i know that? Because they are using fully uncompressed there is no audio loss at all from the original recordings. So im not being to bold when i say the sound will be perfect.

I have to say that the writer of this article definitely came in to the demos looking for things to scrutinize.
It's hard to enjoy a game as much if you are only playing it to find its faults.
I know the writer didn't say the games were bad or anything, but you can't really tell if he/she enjoyed the demos or not based on what was said. You only got to know what was "wrong" with them.

You want to be able to go from one of those stance to the next very quickly, that's why the animation is the way it is. Of course they can make it very realistic. But that'll mean you'll be pretty slow when switching stance.

COD might eclipse MGS animations wise (wouldn't know first hand) but just from what my eyes tell me now I don't think they look out of place at all in MGS. Mind you I felt the same way you do about the animations in earlier builds of MGS where the animations where pretty much identical to the past MGS games. For some reason today when I was driving around, hunting for Assassin's Creed, I was a little saddened. After all these years of playing MGS and loving the quirks, it is now all going to be changed so that Westerners will get their feel from the game. But is that not what makes some MGS what it is? I mean, it probably is for the better but I hope there is an option to make it non-Westerner.

Ceb at Gaf wrote what he thinks this game will be reviewed like...lol
"...while MGS4 does feature the best of both worlds by sticking with the tried-and-true MGS core mechanics all while borrowing elements from Gears of War, we can't help but wish that Kojima Productions had pushed the envelope in more ways. The FPS view doesn't control as smoothly as Call of Duty 4, the over-the-shoulder view is not as responsive as it was in Gears of War. The loading times between areas also reduce immersion - it would've been nice if MGS4 had featured the same loading-free streaming technology used in games like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Also, even though the cutscenes are meticulously rendered and the story that plays out is one of gaming's finest, some people might find the constant breaks from the gameplay action to be annoying.
Lastly, while MGS4 does include an online multiplayer mode, the levels and game modes are simply too few in numbers for it to have a real lasting appeal.
Final rating: 8.9"
Wait, I should explain myself better than that. I love the humour. I love Raiden. I love Kojima's splattery shits. I love it all.
What I meant by quirks was controls. The thing that annoyed me most was when I was standing and then crouched, if I moved while crouched I would lie down and then I would have to hold the button to go all the way back up. It was this entire area that I was directing my anger at. Because I read somewhere that it was to be remedied. And just how Ryan is trying to make it feel at home for us Westerners.
And thus making it the lowest ranked Metal Gear ever (for a 3d console)?!
What mechanics has it borrowed from Gears?
The 3rd person? Oh wait.
The cover system? Um..
The option to go 'over-the-shoulder'? What is an option?
Loading times? Geese, I don't recall these in previous games.
And for fucks sake, that futureview takes gripe with the "Free Trial" of MGO? That guy is fucked. I hate him.

I think I know, how you make money^^ Either MS pays you, or you are unemployed^^
But now now^^
How will MGS make money? First of all, it is likely that MGS4 will break even in Japan alone. Square said some time ago, that this is what happens with their games, and that is pretty impressive. And since Japan is Sony and Nintendo land, MGS4 will sell massively good there.
Then there's the US and Europe, where too it will sell many units, possibly more than Gears of War (although in a slightly worse time of year (i.e. not pre xmas)).

Ceb at Gaf wrote what he thinks this game will be reviewed like...lol"...while MGS4 does feature the best of both worlds by sticking with the tried-and-true MGS core mechanics all while borrowing elements from Gears of War, we can't help but wish that Kojima Productions had pushed the envelope in more ways. If it controlls well and doesn't detract from the gameplay it shouldn't matter it its as good as gears of war lol. :duh: Gah...nevermind. I'll be playing MGS4 while this guy is replaying Gears because of its great over the shoulder view lol.

^^Smokey to download torrents.... If you're talking about the video though I'm pretty sure it would be in English, just my hazardous guess.
You install something called utorrent or a similar torrent file thing. Takes like 2 seconds.
Then you go to your browser, click the download torrent thing, let your torrent program ask to use it, click yes, away you go on downloading a torrent.

Yep, from what I know, seeds are the people who have completely downloaded it and are continuing to share it.
But what I'm guessing you don't know is that people who have even partially downloaded the files can also contribute to uploading and sending data to other users, but generally people who are 'leechers' are contributing less by uploading at a stronger rate than they are downloading.
But yes, going by number of seeds is generally the best way to go about things, but also it's good to factor in the peers too. 1:10 seeds to peers is even good when there's like 10 or more seeds I would guess.
P.S. I didn't realise there was only 1 seed for this torrent lol :P

Lol, you guys are confusing a calendar date with a fiscal date. When a company gives a quarter, it's fiscal, not calendar.
However, is the Q2 a quote from Konami/Sony or just from the media? If it's media, it could be either.
This may be old news, but the Kojima Productions website (http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/english/index.html) clearly says 2nd Quarter of Calendar Year 2008, so it's fortunately not Fiscal Q2, eh? Not sure if this was already stated, but it was news to me, and relieving news at that :-D

MGS4 must sell 1m on day one
Metal Gear Solid 4 has to sell over a million copies on day one if it is to be profitable, GamesIndustry.biz reports.
Still, game producer Ryan Payton is adamant it will not become multi-platform to recoup costs, and stands eagerly beside his old friend PlayStation.
"The PlayStation brand has always been good to us, and we're pretty bullish on the PS3," Payton told Reuters. "We're telling our fans that if you want to play Metal Gear Solid 4, you have to buy a PS3."
Reuters' report adds: "Payton said the new 'Metal Gear Solid' needs to sell over a million copies on the first day it goes on sale due to its costly production."
It is no secret rising development costs mean it is tougher to make money on exclusive titles these days, but PS3 has a particularly hard struggle as it hasn't sold as many consoles as its rivals.
Fantastically named IDC analyst Billy Pidgeon believes this new batch of games cost around USD 10 and 50 million to develop. Coo.
"You might be able to weather one title coming in at 500,000 in sales," warned Pidgeon, perched atop a power line. "But two or three failures like that and even big publishers are going to be hurting."
But Sony has looked into this miserable future and prepared against the demise of third-party exclusives by ramping up its own internal development. It now has 15 studios working on games, according to marketing boss Peter Dille, which is more than both Microsoft and Nintendo combined.
Apparently we will also see the same number of PS3 exclusives released between September 2007 and April 2008, too.
Dille added: "We understand publishers are needing to recoup their investment. From our perspective, as long as the games aren't going exclusive to other platforms, PS3 gamers are not actually losing anything."
What a wise old fellow.
Bringing it all to close is news that only two PS3 games have ever sold over one million copies, where as its older brother PS2 has had nearly one hundred surge over that mark. Still, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune at the end of next week, wink nudge.

Why "on day one"? I've read this article a few days back, and I am still not convinced by this assumption.
I mean, does it matter if it's day one or week or even month one? Isn't the overall "full price" sales the "problem? I mean, does it matter? If it sold 1 copy on day one, but 10million on day two, would it matter?
Looking at MGS2, MGS4 will sell. MGS2 sold over 7 million copys according to Wikipedia.
MGS2 was released in November 2001, when the PS2 had an installed base of ~20million units (End of September 2001, don't have other numbers here). Launch sales according to VGC are ~550k units, half of what MGS4 needs to do. So, according to this, it won't be "successful".
Gears of War "just" managed to sell 1.1mil units on day one^^

This is one of the few games Id camp for, though I dont think that will be the case. It's a far better series then almost anything out there but realistically speaking, we all know it doesnt receive the attention or major sales it deserves. So to Red_Eyes Im disagreeing because of that, but in the end there is at the very least one million gamers who got the PS3 for this game and will grab it day one.
The other two million... well who knows why they bought the system. Blu-ray player... Final Fantasy XIII... ?

I think that most PS3 owners are either hardcore fans or AV-enthusiasts, so although it has a low install base, I think it's possible to sell enough copies because of the high percentage of hardcore gamers who own the system.
Segitz
12-02-2007, 01:58 AM
Well, I am not a hardcore gamer (more AV-Enthusiast, as Seph says), but MGS games are worth the money without waiting for any review (I even got the Acids ones, and I do not regret it, they gameplay is really nice, although the storys sucked pretty hard^^)

While forcing TrueVCU to play through MGS (to bring him up to speed on the mythology and why I'm one of the top ten Hideo Kojima dick-riders (not ashamed to say it)), our friend Brian was watching, who'd never been exposed to the game, and he was blown away. In the sense that, he'd never been privy to that kind of a game in the PSone days, sure maybe on PS2, but he was astonished at the level of story telling and gameplay sophistication in a PSone game. That game was ahead of its time.

The only other type of story on a PSX game that floored me was Final Fantasy Tactics. There were a few others, but that one stands out as starkly as MGS does.
Metal Gear Solid is the only game that I can genuinely go back to and play and gain instant satisfaction from, regardless of how much time has passed. Go back and play without nitpicking at the outdated graphics, or the fact that Snake doesn't have a mouth. It just doesn't matter in the slightest. It's just so engrossing on every single play though, and when it's ended, you want to do it again. Without a doubt the single greatest God damn game ever made.

It's hard to really pick just one... they played all so awesomely.... I might give it to Psycho Mantis but only ever because of the 1-->2 player thing.
His thing all around was wicked too though, having to use his vision to cross check where he is if you lose him or he's invisible, that battle was fun as hell. And so was the map you battle Raven in, the huge crates getting destroyed, that battle was damn ***king awesome. God... all too good.

The lastest MGS4 news is very exciting, because we will now get MGS4 & MGO in one package!
Since the announcement of Metal Gear Online, it’s been left unclear whether or not it would be released as a standalone title or bundled together with Metal Gear Solid 4. It’s only common sense that the two should be paired together, but early talk didn’t seem to suggest that they would be.
Well, the January ‘08 issue of the new PlayStation: The Official Magazine (formerly PSM) was just dropped off in my mailbox headlined on the cover with exclusive confirmation that MGS4 and MGO are in fact being integrated into one value-packed MGS experience for the PS3. Hurray!
The news comes as part of the magazine’s “Top 10 Games of ‘08″ cover story, with MGS4 obviously sneaking away with the #1 spot. Beyond the exciting news of the MGS4/MGO merger, there are some other details revealed about MGO too, including word that it’ll support up to 16 players in modes like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill and Team Sneak on five “Starter Pack” maps.
Character customization sounds like a point of emphasis for the title too, with the article stating that players will be able to customize their characters with up to three special skills (they sound very similar to the perks in Call of Duty 4), and that skills and weapons will level up over the course of play. There’s plenty more discussed as well, so keep an eye out on news stands and pick up a copy to read up on all the details, or if you have a subscription be on the lookout for your issue to arrive anytime now.

Official Playstation magazine preview.
Jan 2008 issue
All questions answered?
After trailers, teasers, and countless printed column inches and disposable digital coverage you’d think we were all fully apprised of what to expect from Metal Gear Solid 4. But be it the cryptic information of dance of genius director Hideo Kojima keeping us constantly unbalanced or a simple case of being lost in translation, even some of the franchise’s most hardcore fans couldn’t definitively put a finger on how MGS4 would play.
We know how it will look, As a frontline PS3 showstopper, MGS4 has with every showing elevated itself to the position of bona fide system seller. Enthusiasts still wanting to jump on the Playstation bandwagon cite MGS4 as the tipping game. How can you not? Solid Snake, hair flecked grey by time and the accelerated aging of his cloned heritage is probably the biggest hero on the Playstation. Those teasers also introduced series characters that will play a role in this spiritual sequel to metal gear Solid 2.
As the announced final game in the metal gear series, associate producer Ryan Payton confirmed to us that the claim that Guns of the Patriots would answer every unresolved question was absolutely deadly serious. What if MGS4 is your first Metal gear game? Will this information fly over your head? Possibly, but the presentation should allow you to stay clued into the big picture progress. For series veterans, when a past scene is conjured in the story, you can hold down a button to view a quick scene from the original game. So when you hear about Metal Gear Rex, you’ll have access to flashback that plays from the earlier MG game to provide background to your current situation. You should be prepared to sit back and watch the action unfold in several areas, as the cinematic cutscenes are currently estimated as running a full four hours. ”it’s definitely more than MGS3,” Payton confirmed.
Hands-on playtest. Oh. Yes.
Making progress is a big deal for MGS4. For the first time, you’ll be pointed to your current mission objective on-screen. In part that’s a response to the vast world being potentially unwieldy as you manage so many skills, moves, and even remote mechanical devices. Your Octocamo suit lets you blend into any surface. It’s completely seamless as you control Snake’s movement, ducking behind cover, and blending to a patterned tile finish. Some 300 surface textures ensures that Snake’s suit will be well stocked with chameleon abilities come the conclusion of the game. (While Ryan Payton’s job as Associate Producer sounds awesome, filled with critical gameplay responsibility, he also has to name all 300 surface textures individually since once stored in the Octocamo they can be called on for whatever situation you’re in to provide critical cover.)
During our playtest we faced off against several enemies. They flanked, sought cover, and frankly provided the kind of challenge that gamers may well appreciate for its realism, but required all new level of awareness from us to be effective in tight situations. But then the moment occurred that sold us beyond any trailer, PR spiel, or even past familiarity could deliver.
Though hidden behind cover, our position was blown. The grenade that sailed to within a few feet was just additional detritus. So when it exploded, propelling us several feet into a prostate state of being dazed, injured, and mostly dead, the shock factor was sufficient to freeze our movements. Good job. If we’d flicked the analog stick just a smidge we’d have alerted the approaching guards that our feigned death state was more feign than death. Our breath held as tight as our lungs would allow, the guards approached, and spotting our prone body, crouched and swiped a hand over this apparent mass of worm fodder. It was magic. Confirming to their superiors that the threat was neutralized, we could jump behind cover, and plan some major payback.
Seriously, we dare you to move in that situation. It was intense, stylish and utterly realistic as animations kicked in that we didn’t even imagine they existed. With 200 staffers on the project, it’s absolutely evident where the work of the thirty animators was well utilized.
Ready for Launch
Payton had to rerecord a few lines of dialogue to direct players on how to deal with certain challenges. An armored Striker comes into view, and so many gamers at Tokyo game Show started lobbing grenades at it that it was clear better messaging was needed for Snake to know that this tactic wouldn’t work. But such is the complexity of MGS4’s gameplay that we’re not surprised it has required additional time to be readied for perfection. Just jumping into the game worlds, meeting with the PMC allies that you can fight alongside, trading weapons with them to ensure the good guys are always as well stocked as possible, is a deep, intense experience.
We’re waiting for all those questions to be answered. And as we wait we can tell you that MGS4 plays with such amazing acuity that the addition of MGO to the main product is merely an icing on the cake that’s cooking in the hands of such talented chefs that we have no doubt their talents will shine come release day. No doubt, no question, no argument: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (even before the metal gear Online addition) was out top choice for “must have” of 2008, and the integration of the online element simply serves to enhance that position. Pre-order. Now.Some more MGS4 from this forum (http://www.360indians.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7&st=380&p=58150&#entry58150)
