right! thanks Lali. you see, what your job is is to moderate personal attacks in this forum... you ahve had something against me for quite a while now and take every opportunity to attack my personality. find a post from me in which i personal attack someone... i attack an argument, not the person. what you just said is you wish me dead! i can guess who on this forum regularly PM each other. everybody so far took my joke in the right way... you see, we are friends and this is MY community and THEIRS. i know why this forum is going down hill

Yeah, talk about missing the joke. Sweet christ. :whip: I think it's less me being offensive and you being defensive to everything I say.

Sony Computer Entertainment America Introduces Metal Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of The Patriots PS3 Bundle Available in Late Q2 2008 in North America

Company Also Announces Limited-Edition God of War(R) PSP(R) Entertainment
Pack and April Availability of DUALSHOCK(R)3 Wireless Controller for North
America

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- At its annual retail and
publisher conference Destination PlayStation, Sony Computer Entertainment
America (SCEA) announced details of upcoming PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) and
PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable) (PSP-2000) hardware bundles with two of the
most highly anticipated 2008 titles. The company also announced the April
2008 availability of DUALSHOCK(R)3 wireless controller in North America.

To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal
Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a
PS3 bundle, which will include an 80GB PS3, the upcoming blockbuster Metal
Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of the Patriots and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller
for $499 (MSRP).

SCEA also announced the June 2008 availability of the limited-edition
God of War(R) PSP Entertainment Pack for $199.99 (MSRP). The God of War
Entertainment Pack will include a "Deep Red" PSP with God of War himself,
Kratos, silk-screened on the back of the unit, a copy of the highly
anticipated upcoming God of War: Chains of Olympus game for PSP, the hit
comedy movie from Columbia Pictures, "Superbad(TM)," on UMD(TM) (Universal
Media Disc), and a PLAYSTATION(R)Network voucher to download Syphon
Filter(R): Combat Ops from PLAYSTATION(R)Store. The stand-alone version of
God of War: Chains of Olympus launches on March 4, 2008.

"Working closely with our retail and publishing partners and sharing
our hardware and software roadmaps at Destination PlayStation gives us a
great opportunity to outline some key milestones for the year. In response
to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North
America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is
an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers," said Jack
Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "With Blu-ray having won the format war,
our stellar software line-up and a broad product portfolio, we will
continue to drive the incredible momentum we've been generating since last
fall."

SCEA will introduce the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for the first
time in North America in April 2008 for $54.99 (MSRP). DUALSHOCK 3, which
incorporates both rumble and motion sensing SIXAXIS(TM) technologies,
maintains the award-winning design and precise, responsive features of
PlayStation controllers. The added rumble feature, combined with the
SIXAXIS system, enhances the gamer experience with more interactive,
intuitive and immersive game play experience and will work with more than
100 current PS3 titles.

In additional news coming from Destination PlayStation, SCEA announced
Metal Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of the Patriots will be available in North
America in late Q2 2008. A Metal Gear Online "Starter Pack" will also be
launched to support online game play. Gamers can select a single player
experience or take the action online with up to 16 players and battle it
out using the latest weapons and stealth techniques. For those eager to
take on Solid Snake's nemesis, Liquid Ocelot, a nationwide pre-sell
promotion will enable gamers to pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the
Patriots and be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear
Online scheduled for late April.

Back on topic!!! That bundle kicks all sorts of ass. I wonder if they're gonna release a white PS3 version as well? I think Sony could really bring in that supremacist demographic if they did that. More sales are more sales, you know?

SCEA also announced the June 2008 availability of the limited-edition

To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a PS3 bundle, which will include an 80GB PS3 (U$ 499), the upcoming blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots(U$ 59], and a DUALSHOCK 3 (U$ 55) wireless controller for $499.99 (MSRP).

The MGS4 bundle has a lot more value than a normal 80G bundle.

Normal bundle: 80G and motorstorm (launch window game)

That is a great question. I wonder if it will. I can imagine that PS3 sales for an 80 GB bundle with MGS4 would drive sales to the sky and beyond all over Europe.

80Gig's always been $500. 60GB was the only SKU originally priced @ $600 IIRC.And now that there's a $499 80GB bundle (that includes a higher priced DS3 controller) it's conceivable that a $399 80GB SKU, and consequently a $299 40GB SKU, aren't far behind.

cliffbo

well sales of PS3 could well overtake the 360 in the UK by then, with there being only a million difference now... it also depends on how much disposable income Europeans have at the minute. i do know that Britain is going through something of a mini recession and that people are not borrowing anywhere near as much and dept has almost hit record numbers... whether this is mirrored elsewhere in Europe, i know not! could I afford the 80GB? at the moment no, i reckon i'd buy the 40GB and eventually upgrade the drive... i know of a few people in the same situation. it might happen, but a few things are stacked against it

i expect a rise in the sales of the 40GB PS3 as a lot of people who can afford it wait for the bundle and those that can't wait, but want a PS3 anyway, will go for the cheaper option. if i'm not right with this we can expect sales of the PS3 to decrease a little before June

PlayStation 3 Metal Gear Bundle Is PS2 Backward Compatible

METAL... GEAR?For those of you wondering (and not already discussing the news in the Kotaku comments section!), yes the PlayStation 3 included in the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle announced earlier today will play select PlayStation 2 games via hardware and software emulation. SCEA PR manager Al De Leon confirmed that the hardware is similar to what was included in the 80GB Motorstorm bundle and will feature partial backward compatibility. While the original Metal Gear Solid for PlayStation should play without a hitch and Metal Gear Solid 2 is listed as having "no major problems", you may experience a hiccup or two playing the third MGS game.

According to the official PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility database, Metal Gear Solid 3 has the following issues: "At various points throughout gameplay, the title performs at a significantly slower than normal performance speed" and "During various FMA sequences throughout the title, the FMA does not play as 'smooth' as normal." Not bad. Not bad at all.

It sounds like it is all good. Computability is GOOD! SWEET!!! I am going to get this so soon. As soon as I have the cash to spare.

“No plans” for MGS4 or GoW bundles in Europe

February 27th, 2008 @ 10:01

metalgear8.jpg

Looks as though you may not want to hold your breath if you’re banking on a European version of the MGS4 or God of War: Chains of Olympus bundles announced in the US yesterday.

“We have no plans to release either bundle at the moment,” a SCEE spokesperson told videogaming247.

If we were betting men, and we’re not, we could speculate that this may mean MGS4 isn’t going to release in Europe until the back half of the year. Nicht so gut.

Update: Or maybe not. Konami has previously announced that MGS4 is “due for a simultaneous worldwide release early in 2008.” Hold that thought.

well the 80GB SKU has been selling on a similar level to the 40GB in America, while the 80GB SKU is an unknown quantity in Europe, so it could be a straight forward strategy going on here. MGS has been on the cards to have a world wide release so it could be that we get the same bundle but with the 40GB SKU

Europe's already gotten tons of bundles we haven't seen in the States so it's definitely something handled by the individual companies SCEA/SCEE, but I still have a pretty hard time believing Europe would pass up a bundle as epic as this one... I think SCEE just doesn't have their stuff for the bundle finalized (as in, rights to sell it in each individual country), so they aren't going to announce it until then. They have time :)

Japan Gets Three Metal Gear Packs
They always have to top us.
by IGN Staff

US, February 27, 2008 - We were all bubbly following the news that in addition to a standard version of Metal Gear Solid 4, Konami would be releasing the game here in America as part of a PlayStation 3 bundle packed in a special Old Snake-themed box.

Then we learned what Japan will be getting to commemorate the game, due out over there in early June, and the bubbles sorta went away.

The latest issue of Famitsu reports that Konami will be commemorating the Japanese release of MGS4 with three packages. The game's base pack includes MGS4 and Metal Gear Online. But real fans of the sneak will want to pick up the Special Edition box set, which includes a Blu-ray disc featuring all the trailers released so far along with making-of footage. Finally, there's the premium pack, which will include everything in the Special Edition version along with a PlayStation 3 unit.

In America, the PS3 unit to be bundled with MGS4 has been confirmed as the current 80 gigabyte model with a Dual Shock 3 controller thrown in. Famitsu referred to the hardware that's set to be bundled with the Japanese version as a "special model," but said that it couldn't reveal the color. Konami will give out the details on March 21, according to the magazine.

It's worth noting that the 80 gigabyte PS3 was never released in Japan. Is this just Konami making a big fuss over the Japanese release of the previously unavailable model through the MGS4 pack? Or can we look forward to a completely new color? We'll find out in late March!

As for the bonus goodies that are set to be included in the Japanese Special Edition, we wouldn't be too surprised if they ended up coming our way as well, possibly in the form of an unannounced limited edition. We'll have to wait for official announcement from Konami.

Some more information from a translation
MGS4

-Briefings:

You control Mk.II during the briefings, allowing you to adjust the camera (including a 4-angle split-screen and ability to turn the window off) and move around. You can also rewatch any of them from the title screen. In the picture on the left, he's ignoring the briefing and looking at what else is going on. He sees Sunny doing something. You can play different songs on the little stereo.

-Special Edition disc contains all the trailers and some making-of videos.

-Website relaunches 2/29.

-Pricing for different versions and look of bundled PS3 will be released on 3/21.

-TGS '07 trailer will be uploaded to the Japanese PSN Store on 2/29.

MGO

-Starter pack contains 5 maps, some new (some from previous titles, I'm assuming). Expansion packs add new characters and maps. Pricing and release schedule will be announced at a later date.

-New beta test is for Japan too. No need to pre-order, open to anyone 17 or older with a PS3 and online account. You can apply from 2/29 to 5/5, and it runs from 4/21 to 5/6.

Hideo Kojima (translated by Marc) posted:Here's Kojima's message from the article:

It will be released worldwide on June 12th.
We are currently making our final adjustments and polishing the game.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/02/28/metal-gear-solid-4-guns-of-the-patriots-faq/
Q: Is there any special process that consumers must go through to verify their participation in the beta?
A: When the pre-order program begins in April 2008, consumers who pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will receive the Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD, containing a Prologue that recaps the Metal Gear franchise, a 20th Anniversary retrospective, character bios for Big Boss, Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and Solid Snake, plus a collection of international trailers of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This pre-order package also contains an insert with a download code and special instructions for accessing the Metal Gear Online beta test when it goes live in late April.

Edit: Those that wanted to know if there are alternate languages for MGS4, Ryan said there wasn't enough disk space to do include it on the new KP report.

Metal Gear Solid 4 will only have local voice tracks

Posted Feb 29th 2008 6:00PM by Jem Alexander
Filed under: News
Ryan Payton has confirmed in the latest Kojima Productions podcast that the European and American versions of Metal Gear Solid 4 will not have the Japanese voice tracks. Likewise, the Japanese version of the game will not have any English voice tracks either. This is apparently down to a lack of space on the Blu-Ray disc due to the large amount of story in the game.

Wait a second, running out of space on a Blu-Ray disc? Well, we knew this would happen at some point but this is definitely earlier than we expected. Our only worry about this is regarding the European release - will it only have English vocals? If so, then non-English speakers might have to settle for subtitles of their mother tongue. Fans of the Japanese language will either have to survive with English or risk importing from Japan and hoping there'll be English subtitles.

---

Just a note for anyone who hasn't watched the 3rd disk that came with MGS 3: Subsistence (Collector's Edition)..it's definitely not a good way to convey the game at all. I am planning to run through MGS 1 through 3 with a friend who's going to get a PS3 so I am watching Disc 3: Existence and it doesn't convey the plot of the game well at all. There are time skips forward and backward constantly and the initial execution, being especially bad, is so loose and lackluster that it would make anyone loose interest. This is a bit of a disappointment for me as I was hoping for a little easier of a job around the end...

The Metal Gear Solid producer considers the Blu Ray disc too small and that they had to make compromises in order to put the game on the 50GB BD. According to Hideo, the programmers had to compress some parts in the game to save disc space.

Kojima : I am not satisfied with the quality yet, however...there isn't enough space.

Metal Gear Solid 4 to feature limited sixaxis ability
Posted on March 1st, 2008 at 23:21 EDT

Metal Gear Solid 4 is set to release on June 12 and so far has carried with it not only a ton of hype but more recently, a ton of news. It seems like the entire gaming media is rotating around MGS4 this week and everything that it has to offer. This is just one more bit of news to chalk-up to that slate.

Appearing in the new Electronic Gaming Monthly, Ryan Payton, Assistant Producer of MGS4, discussed how they were going to implement the tilt-functionality of the sixaxis controller.

"I think the problem with this feature is it was severly overhyped," says Payton. "It was talked up as Sony's answer to the Wii Remote. The trick is to use Sixaxis sparingly and have fun with it. I don't think anybody wants to play a long game while consistently having to tilt the controller around. Rather, it's fun for the player when they're given a chance to use it in short bursts-- that's how we're approaching Sixaxis in MGS4."

We here at PSU believe that this is probably the most appropriate approach that developers should be taking with the motion sensing capabilities the controller offers. It shouldn't ever be used as the answer for the Wiimote, but just as another element to enjoy gaming through. We'll keep you notified if anything else is released in regards to Metal Gear Solid 4.

just to keep things real about the 50GB argument. this is what Kojima said:

Kojima wants 50GB Blu-Ray disk for MGS4

nexgenwars.com — As crazy as it sounds, Hideo Kojima recently said that "Blu-Ray is too small for Metal Gear Solid 4."The current spec of Blu-Ray is only 25 GB, and he wants the newer spec 50 GB Blu-Ray for MGS4.

he's talking about the current Blu-ray here and he 'wants' the 50GB because of space problems (obviously). perhaps he hasn't been able to use a 50GB Blu-ray which is why he's said it again. MGS could be on a 25GB blu-ray disk, so lets not get carried away too much

cliffbo

by all accounts though, the game is BIG

If you listen to the Kojima Productions Report, you'll know that MGS4 is a very long game. Not only with cutscenes but tons of gameplay unlike past MGS games. RP claimed this week that there is too much content in the game. Mark Mcdonald played the game for 4 days and didn't finish it. This game will be the first game in my opinion to truly take advantage of the BR disc.

I just gotta laugh: he ran out of space...

March 3, 2008 - Continuing a series of developer interviews in celebration of its 1000th issue, Japan's Weekly Famitsu got Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima in the hot seat this week. The director reminisced about his career and even shared a couple of interesting comments on MGS4.

Kojima first reflected a bit on his 22 years as a game designer. He actually finds it hard to believe that he managed to do the same job at the same company for 22 years. One of the reasons that he was able to stick with it so long, he noted, is that game technology has continued to advance all these years, at last allowing him to get closer to what he originally wanted to do.

The magazine asked Kojima to share the things that influenced him as a young game designer. He actually credits game players as having "made him." When times were tough, Kojima would spend time reading the messages on survey post cards sent in by users. These were actually addressed to "H.Kojima," as at the time game staff couldn't put kanji characters in the credits.

It seems that if it weren't for these types of post cards, we wouldn't be playing Hideo Kojima games today. Kojima recalled how in his early days as a designer, he wasn't so highly rated internally at Konami. Even his friends and parents told him to quit! However, it was different amongst the game players.

Moving on to Metal Gear Solid 4, Kojima noted that, although we've only been seeing scenes from the Middle East, players will move between different countries. This is different from past MGS games, he noted. If this were one of the past MGS games, you'd be moving between different sections of the same Middle Eastern setting. Here, however, all the setting are different, making the work akin to making multiple games.

While noting that MGS4 won't be lacking in volume, Kojima did admit that he's still not entirely satisfied with the game's quality. However, space limitations are apparently getting getting in the way. That's right, space limitations on a Blu-ray disc! The Famitsu interviewers pointed out that they've never heard anyone complain about space limitations with Sony's high capacity disc format, but Kojima was adamant about space being inadequate, and noted that, as with past titles, the talk has come to what to cut or what to compress.

As with the recent Shigeru Miyamoto, Akihiro Hino, and Shinji Mikami features, Famitsu asked Kojima to list the game makers that have caught his eye the most of late. He responded that he's taken note of overseas developers, in particular the teams behind Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4. There's a bit of competitive spirit here, though, as Kojima noted that the motion system in Assassin's Creed will force him and other developers to aim for something higher.

Hideo Kojima Working on New Title
Just in case you thought he wasn't.
by John Tanaka

US, March 11, 2008 - Metal Gear Solid 4 will bring an end to the Solid Snake line of Metal Gear games. But, just in case you've heard rumors to the otherwise, it won't bring an end to series creator Hideo Kojima.

Speaking with Japan's Nikkei BP website, Konami president Fumiaki Tanaka revealed that Kojima is working on the concept for a new game outside of the Metal Gear universe. Pressed further on this mystery title, or possibly titles, Tanaka said that he couldn't reveal anything at this point and that a formal announcement won't be coming this year. Instead, we can probably look forward to hearing something after Kojima has written the new title's scenario, which won't happen until after MGS4 has been released and Metal Gear Online has been given a major push.

In other Metal Gear Solid 4 news, Tanaka revealed to the site that Konami expects sales to be similar to past titles. While the sales focus is on the European and North American markets, the company is aiming for sales of one million in Japan alone. Nikkei pointed out to Tanaka that the PS3 hardware has yet to hit the two million mark in Japan, to which Tanaka noted that many users are waiting for MGS4 to buy a PS3. He also feels that because a number of major PS3 titles from other companies will be released before MGS4, the system's userbase total will rise.

Outside of Metal Gear, Tanaka shared a few insights into Konami's development plans as a whole. The company will be releasing remakes of more classic titles and tapping into more classic franchises in the future. Although Tanaka wouldn't get into specifics, he did suggest that download services like Wii Ware could play a role in this effort.

Tanaka made mention of all the major platforms in his discussion with Nikkei, but one in particular got praise: the PS3. In previous interviews, Tanaka has shared his opinion that Sony's online platform for the PS3 fits well with Konami. That stance hasn't changed, he said, noting that the open nature of Sony's online platform, in contrast to the regulations placed on the Wii and Xbox 360 online systems, gives Konami a lot of freedom.

What Konami will do with that freedom is up in the air right now, though. With Metal Gear Online, set to be bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4, Tanaka admitted that the company is still in the trial stages regarding a business model.

20%? 20% of MGS is a lot of stuff. I'd put it lower than that :P

masteratt - don't sell your PS3 man. Just don't sell consoles man. Just my recommendation. Once you get a console, just don't give it back! :P

I sold some of my PS2 games. I bought all of them back and then some. I can't even imagine myself doing that to a console.

It's just going to bite you later when you have to end up spending more at a different particular time. Because then you'll want the new graphics card or the new something then you know? I mean graphics card now and then console again later? I'm personally planning something similar to you.

I want to pick up a new graphics card over the summer some time. Probably a solid high end of the 8 series. That should be satisfactory for a while I think, and I'll easily be able to manage it without sacrificing anything I already have (and would want back if I didn't have it) you know?

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/683152/Japan_Gets_Metal_Gear_Bundles.html

"Yesterday, it was announced that Metal Gear Solid 4 will see a Q2 2008 release (most likely June 12) and get a special 80gb PS3 Bundle, but Japan is getting some extras.

They will get the option of the game alone, a Special Edition Box Set that includes a Blu-Ray with trailers and behind-the-scenes video, or a PS3 bundle with the Special Edition.

The PS3 in this bundle could be a new color and details will be released on the March 21st.

It's pretty likely that the US will be getting some sort of Special or Limited edition, but no announcement has been made yet."

I'm pretty sure that there are quite a few announcements for this day.

And someone needs to learn how to search.

And boys, you should know me better than that, I'm disappointed.

Considering that fluff is multiple language support and CG movies and then taking into account that MGS4 can't FIT multiple language tracks due to space constraints and lack of CG movies (all done ingame) I call bullshit on it being filled with "fluff".
