Moved my suggestion :-p
Whose problem is that!?
Let's start... on April 2nd, everybody starts MGS1, so those who do have Metal Gear 1 & 2 need to start before that :-D
I would like to be a little more specific, and do it chronologically.
MGS3 - April 12th, 12:00 UTC
MGS: PO - April 19th, 12:00 UTC
MGS1 - April 26th, 12:00 UTC
MGS2 - June 2nd, 12:00 UTC
MGS4 - June 12th
One week for each game, ending 10 days before MGS4. The weeks will be dedicated to discussions of the game we're playing and its importance in relation to MGS4. Does PSINext approve?
Passive
03-27-2008, 11:59 AM
I very much approve of that idea.
a week gives plenty of time for those with little time to play or not very good at the game, and it gives the vets a week to play through a few times ^^
and those who have MG and MG2 should play those before april 12th
ONLY beef i have with it. is the chronological order. the way i see it is, kojima gave them to us in a certain order, and thats the order i love to play in. (sucker for prequals :P..........cept star wars... *shudder)
maybe we should choose, chronological or intended order of play.
Sephiroth_VII
03-27-2008, 12:02 PM
Well, I'm thinking that with chronological, we end up as close to MGS4 as possible. Besides, most of use have played the games already, so when replaying, we shouldn't have any problems going chronologically.
Passive
03-27-2008, 12:20 PM
thats true. I just like the idea of playing the way the god wanted us to. but either way works for me.

Also, regarding the dates, can we actually try to make it so MGS2 lands on April 29th & 30th? :-D

Well if she was using the accent initially to fit in with how she thought she should speak (say those last 5 words like 10 times fast :-p), and it was part of an act to fool others and herself, then yeah I can see her dropping the accent... just a theory though -- it's the same voice actress so the change isn't because they got somebody new who couldn't do the voice.

Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 discs are beginning to pop up:
Nice I'm going to start annoying ebgames again. lol I three of them that are close together. They're going to probably start hating me.
Hollywood producer Michael De Luca has produced lots of good movies. Take Boogie Nights or Wag the Dog, for example. He's also produced lots of bad movies, like Little Nicky or Ghost Rider. He latest project? Bringing Metal Gear Solid to the screen. No easy task! No doubt fans of the cinematic game franchise have high expectations. And with the way Hollywood bungles game adaptations, the pressure is on. So, how does De Luca feel about this
whole Metal Gear Solid movie dealio?
...there's so much story in Metal Gear as opposed to other video games that I think it's going to be a challenge but it's an upscale problem to have some much thematic subtexts and story material to draw from so I think we have a leg up already in that it's such a rich universe and Kojima is like George Lucas in terms of creating this universe so what it says about war by proxy in this kind of future where war has been outsourced to private companies I think can be almost very topical and also kind of satirical in like a Robocop kind of way, so I think if we can get a script that honors the storyline of all 4 games, but that also has a cinematic aesthetic you know the kind of aesthetic Verhoeven brought to Robocop or the kind of aesthetic the Wachowski's brought to The Matrix. If there's a cinematic identity to the piece that exists on its own, it doesn't conflict with the DNA of the game, you know that's our goal is to pull off those 2 things. Not mess with the DNA of the game but provide a movie that is an adaptation but that has it's own cinematic identity so even if you don't play the game you know, you'll come out of that movie feeling like you did at the end of The Matrix or the end of Robocop. That's our goal anyway.

Great, he knows the problems with bringing games to the movie screen. Ok then.
But I want someone who will know how to hurdle them and achieve something awesome that stays true to the roots. Unless they somehow make something that parallels MGS and stays amazing... but I have no faith in that method to happen.

***MGS Saga 2.0 Update***
I just got off the phone with my local Gamestop store. Apparently the manager there is a huge Metal Gear fan so all questions about anything MGS are refered to him. He was told by his Regional Manager this morning that the Saga 2.0 discs are scheduled to ship on 4/3. He is expecting them to be in stores by 4/4. Take it for what its worth, just thought I'd pass the info along.
Also, Liquidus posted this response from gamestop online in another thread.
Dear Liquidus,
Thank you for contacting GameStop.com.
We have been informed by the manufacturer that the bonus disc including
the beta code and information will be shipped to the customers who
pre-ordered on 4/3/08. However, as with any free bonus item, supplies
are limited and we cannot guarantee every customer who pre-ordered will
recieve one of these discs.

to all those bold parts i say... what the fuck? big phail. Robot cop... was terrible in my opinion. and the matrix?? the fist one was amazing yes, but look at what the toolbag morons did to the 2nd and 3rd! and george lucas?! how can he compard the genius of Kojima to lucas?!? lucas is a CGI loving retard who fluked the first 3 star wars films and the indy films because he didnt have thoe money or technology to fill the screen with CGI. look at the 3 new star wars films :P epic bad. god why even bring him up. the world he created is vast, yes but pretty cliched if you ask me.
My hopes for an amazing film have gone splat now. the producer as a rule isnt actually good, the director hasnt made enough films (only 1 good one) andim getting the vibe Kojima will have little to do with this movie =[

Don't do it while you're holding the controller normally. It's so much harder that way. Just like in RE4 professional, or even normal mode IIRC, not sure, I always die at the boulder parts if I try to hold the controller normally.
Take your right hand off and use your whole arm basically to mash. Basically you just need to contract the muscles from your whole forearm, and you can get a very repetitive motion to rapidly press a single button.
It hurts a bit if you do it a lot (pretty demanding physical exercise for just that one body part :O) but it gets the job done easy :P

Oh ya lol, I forgot to say this. For the method I posted above for button mashing, you don't use your thumb (that would be insanely hard lol), you have to use your index finger. I've never used my middle finger but I guess that works too.

I also think it's really cool that this kind of crossover can happen considering they're from two rival IPs... I always hope that game developers can overcome the legalities & business BS and respect & reference another developer's creation without publishers stepping in and messing it up, so this is cool to see :-D
But yes, the gameplay is the best part of this! Excelsior!!

Also, I believe the Gekkos are on easy mode, not to mention the player has invincibility on (obviously, otherwise every time he got shot there'd be a blood spatter on the screen or some kind of reaction), and the Gekkos also basically have the mind of a child. They aren't that intelligent...

Has this generation failed Kojima?
Kojima: MGS 4 a “‘one’ out of the ‘ten’ he wanted to create”
http://www.gameplayer.com.au/Home/FEATURES/FEATURE/tabid/1488/Default.aspx?CID=932cfda2-4aaf-4602-8682-203e970c66cc&v7Pager=1
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/9629/assetac0.jpg
In about 50 years time, when I’m just a head in a jar, and someone asks me about the defining moments of my life it’ll probably go a little somethin’… like this:
My wedding day (cut me some slack – the missus is reading!)
The day my first kid was born (assuming I have any kids)…
And the time I took a piss in a urinal… right next to Hideo Kojima himself.
So yeah, I just got back from an epic trip of megaton proportions during which I got the chance to play through the entirety of Metal Gear Solid 4 which, for me personally, is the game I’m most looking forward to in 2008. This is the game that, for many, will vindicate the PS3 as a piece of tech, and possibly mark a turning point in the console war.
And what did I think? Well I’m definitely leaving the final verdict till later – since the build we played wasn’t finished – but it’s safe to say that the scope and scale of what Kojima has attempted here is pretty epic indeed. Much like what Rockstar has done with GTA IV, MGS4 has retained everything that works in an MGS game and cranked it up a couple of notches. It’s a beautifully made game, and undoubtedly the best PS3 exclusive I’ve laid my grubby mitts on to date.
I won’t say too much more for fear of spoiling the awesome two part MGS4 feature that is going in Official PlayStation Magazine, the first part of which is currently in stores NOW! (Cheap Plug)
Regardless of this, one comment Kojima made during the whole trip really struck me, putting in perspective the whole idea of ‘next gen’ and the subtle disappointment we’ve had as gamers with our PS3s and our 360s.
But before I put this out there, I don’t want this to be interpreted as a ‘Kojima hates the PS3, or MGS4 sucks’ quote, because neither are even close to being true – but Kojima claimed, through a translator, that when making Metal Gear Solid 4, he started out trying to make a 10, but ended up with a 1.
Oooh – MEGATON? Well… not exactly, really it’s more a testament to the insane imagination of Hideo Kojima – the only developer crazy enough to claim that a dual layer 50 gig Blu-ray “wasn’t enough storage space” – but in a weird way, it’s also indicative of the possibility that, as technology, both the 360 and the PS3 have to a certain extent failed developers, and subsequently the consumers themselves.
Because as a technological spectacle, it’s unlikely that we’ll see many titles this generation that outperform Metal Gear Solid 4, but to Kojima the final result is merely a ‘one’ out of the ‘ten’ he wanted to create – essentially he was constantly forced to curtail his vision. And it got us to thinking – what other big ideas have been scuppered by ‘next gen’ technology that was essentially outdated by the time they got to market?
It’s impossible to say, but with both Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 forced to scale their resolution back down to 640p and 600p respectively (in a generation that was supposed to be defined by HD visuals), and MotorStorm scaled right back from 1080p/60fps to the more humble 720p/30fps combo, it’s safe to say that the top developers are probably more than a little disappointed with what consoles have ultimately been capable of this generation.
I mean bloody hell, consoles supposedly can’t even run Crisis at medium settings, when you can buy a computer for the same price that can – I don’t think there’s ever been a generation that has been superseded by PC quite so quickly, and quite so spectacularly.
As a console gamer – that’s quite disappointing.
LaLiLuLeLo
04-02-2008, 03:32 PM
Man that always happens with Kojima. During MGS2's time, he said there will never be a console powerful enough for his imagination. You thought he was playing? This doesn't shock me one bit.
Can only hope for MGS4: *****nce on a nice triple layer Blu-Ray someday.

Jeuxvideo has a new preview with some new screens (http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/jeux/metal-gear-solid-4-guns-of-the-patriots/article.html)
Highlights:
- nanomachines play a big role in mgs4, they contribute in a sense to the change of how war is fought. The author can't be more specific though (nda prolly).
- all cutscenes are real time
- some cutscenes are very long (30 minutes even for some)
- some cutscenes are controllable. For example: during the briefing in the second mission, you can choose different camera angles.
- some graphical elements make the game come to life: birds flying over, cables swaying in the wind, a lot of explosions, etc.)
- still a lot of aliasing but nothing serious
- still some framedrops but a lot better than it was at tgs07
- explosions, fire and smoke effects are amazing
- you really think you are on the battlefield, thanks to the ambiance and sound in the game (a lot of credibility in the environments).
- synchronisation in speech not perfect yet, but Kojima promises it will be in the final version.
- new animations (snake reaches for his shoulder sometimes because he's in pain), new cqc movements, rolling barrel is a great addition
- solid eye and mkII have a battery that will autocharge when not in use
- Otocamo is very nice, you can have the texture of a wall or the ground
- radar shows North, the objective and forces present
- at the top of the screens two bars: health bar and psych or stress bar
- map is available in 2D or 3D via the pause menu.
- you can customise weapons in Drebin's shop (accessible in the pause menu) eg: new silecener, flashlight, etc. Some weapons have limitations for customising though. Each wednesday and sunday, the price for these adjustments is only half of the normal price. Drebin is always accompanied by a monkey and you need him to get access to new weapons.
- you buy weapons with DB or Drebin Points, you get these points by selling the loot you gain/collect in combat.

Sure.
I don't think any of the games were hard to follow on their own. People who might play only this game or one of the games could just look at the game as a single story and event.
And with just that you could follow it I bet.
Only it'd be a lot harder to grasp maybe some of the more cryptic concepts or the concepts that are explored over the course of the series.
But the base story itself, I don't think for any of the 3 previous games it would've been hard to follow.

That's why they might make it 720p. When I played it at E For All, Ryan Payton told me it was running in 1080, but if they couldn't get it to perform well in the bigger areas of the game they'd drop it to 720p. I still think it's at 1080 though.

IGN Hands On:
As I said earlier, there's only so much I can go into right now, but this is the system seller that we've all known Metal Gear Solid 4 was going to be. This preview has only scratched the surface; we haven't even described some of the bosses, radical and innovative game mechanics, or other features that make this title a fitting conclusion to one of the best franchises in gaming. As soon as we're able, we'll bring you more details on Metal Gear Solid 4, but for more information, check out our interview with Hideo Kojima here. And for new screens of the game, click on the gallery at the bottom of the page.
Visually, Metal Gear Solid 4 is even more striking on the console than it has been in released trailers. We always had a sense that what Kojima was showing us was incredible footage, but the detail within the game itself is simply breathtaking. One example of this: when an explosion goes off near Snake, a fine coating of dust covers the camera, adding to the cinematic feel of the game. Another showcase of the striking graphics is the seamless transition between cutscenes and gameplay, many of which are only highlighted by a camera shift to indicate the cutscene has ended and gameplay has begun.
Another thing that stands out is the sound quality of the game, which is presented in Certified Dolby Digital Sound. The ambient battlefield noise provides a haunting backdrop to onscreen action, making you feel like just one part of a much larger conflict. The game's soundtrack is subtly shaded by local musical influences, as in the Middle East level, punctuated by a driving techno beat that builds when the guards become alerted to your presence and increases further if gunplay breaks out.

Post Interview(when available). Don't wanna hit IGN.
I love how humble Kojima is by giving praise to competitors games like Assasins Creed and Call of Duty in his interviews and how he is trying to instill a more idealistic aproach to developing games within Kojima Productions instead of allowing his underlings to take the safe and traditional Japanese route when designing games.
Must say though his son is an asshole saying Metal Gear sux :)

50GB is almost certainly due to long HD cutscenes and uncompressed audio.
are these cut-scenes using the in-game engine?
are these cut-scenes using the in-game engine?Yes, of course. MGS tradition.

that doesn't explain why it's taking up 50gb of space.
and I'd rather it be 720p opposed to struggling at 1080p
Well, I think much of the data used on the Blu Ray is sound. Voice Overs, codec conversations et al uncompressed will use quite some space. I mean, even games like Motorstorm already take up 15GB of space, despite it being not the biggest game (it has quite some FMVs though).
Even if all video were FMVs, at full bitrate and uncompressed 7.1 sound, a 50GB Blu Ray can take up 4hrs of video... keep that in mind (in 1080P!)
But usually, MGSs cutscenes are all in-game, except some slight exceptions, like where they show still pictures and "real footage" (the prequel in MGS3 after the Virtous Mission is FMV, afaik).

Yeah, every once in awhile MGS games use file footage like in MGS1 when they showed Geneticists and nuclear weapons, and MGS2 had the 2000 New Year's celebration and all the New York footage. I love how they incorporate real-life footage so seamlessly into the games... very few others do it and nobody does it so well.
I imagine most of the space on the Blu Ray is sound, I don't think it's totally uncompressed but it's much less compressed

The graphics: You thought Gears of War looked amazing? Think again. Metal Gear Solid 4 will blow you away with its ultra-detailed characters and intricate environments, painting some of the most gorgeous graphics seen this side of Crysis. In motion, the graphics look so realistic that your eyes begin to register the visuals as a movie rather than a game. From what we saw, MGS4 puts its 50GB Blu-ray disc to outstanding use.
The guns: The final game will feature over 70 weapons, from lethal assault rifles to silent tranquilizer guns, and you can outfit many of them with scopes, recoil grips, laser sights, flashlights, and more. Collecting enemy weapons will unlock new guns and "Drebin Points" for further customization.
The sound: MGS4 has some of the crispest, clearest sound effects we've ever heard -- the booming gunshots will make your hair stand on end! The Hollywood-style soundtrack is also predictably fantastic, and Snake's raspy voice sounds more desiccated than ever. GamePro editor Sid Shuman went so far as to say that MGS4 has "the best sound I've ever heard in a game."
The story: MGS4 is the darkest Metal Gear game by far: Snake is in terrible physical shape, and the world seems to rest on the brink of self-inflicted annihilation. Though the mood is dark, it's not depressing: you'll find plenty of characters to care about in this war-torn world.

Camera angles :)
TPS ingame camera angles are higher up, over the shoulder, so you're looking almost directly at the top of the mechs.
In earlier demos (where the mechs debuted) the camera angles were much lower down, at foot level sometimes, looking up at them, or directly behind snake's shoulder looking up. Also, when snake and mech were in the same frame in the earlier vids, they were much closer usually, so the difference in height would have been more apparent.
Never underestimate the power of camera angles and perspective - have a look at press shots compared to public shots of the governor of california for example...

MGS4 Hideo Kojima Interview
EUROPEAN BOX ART
http://www.play3.de/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/mini-mgs4_eur_packshot_no_rating.jpg
We discuss Snake's future with the man who created him.
by Jeff Haynes
US, April 2, 2008 - For the last 20 years, the Metal Gear franchise has been one of the innovative leaders of the stealth action genre. Its mix of cinematics, complex plot lines, deep gameplay, and memorable characters have made Snake's adventures legendary. Now this acclaimed series is coming to a close with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the upcoming PS3 title from Konami. At the recent MGS4 Boot Camp, we managed to get an interview with Hideo Kojima, creator of the series. We invited him to candidly share his thoughts with us as his iconic series concludes.
Why did Kojima feel the need to end his renowned franchise? What are his plans once MGS4 is released? Will we ever see Snake again? Read on to find the answers to these and other questions.
IGN: Obviously, the first question that's on everyone's mind is: Why exactly did you feel this was the right time to end the Metal Gear Solid series?
Hideo Kojima: I was supposed to end this in MGS2, you know, originally (laughs). And then I created MGS3, and I said, 'Okay, this is the final one. It's over.' But people said, 'No, there's still not enough answers (in that game)!' As a game design, the story was almost complete in MGS1, 2 and 3, or so I initially thought. But of course, there were some questions that weren't answered, especially with some things after MGS2. I didn't decide that this was the timing – there were a lot of voices saying, 'We want the answer to all of the questions!' That's why as a game, and as a saga, MGS4 is the complete wrap up.
PR-wise, I really don't want to say that this the final game or this is the wrap up, but if I don't say it, people will make me create MGS again! (laughs) So I have to say, 'Die, Snake,' and really end it so I can move on to something else! (laughs) Actually, it's a game, so even if Snake dies, the game can live on. We have to kill him at a certain point.
IGN: That actually brings up one important question: You've expanded on the series with Metal Gear: Ac!d, Portable Ops, the Digital Graphic Novel. I was wondering if you had any plans for other earlier tales for Snake or Raiden. Perhaps even some of the earlier adventures of Snake's career?
Kojima: Actually, yes, to answer your question directly. But I can't say if it's going to be a game. Maybe it'll be a novel or a comic – I do have some ideas. However, I have to say that I'm not going to do everything if we were to create it. Maybe I'll just produce or maybe design the game and just act on that role, so I won't be the total creator of that series if it happens.
IGN: Would you consider these new chapters, stories or projects to be better suited for the PSP, or one of those things that the PS3 can best showcase?
Kojima: I don't know if I should say this, but we found out that Portable Ops, for instance, in Japan especially, has totally different target groups that the MGS series on the console platforms. Namely, the middle school students, from 13 to 15, are really fanatical with the machine itself -- look at Monster Hunter Portable, for instance. So if I were to, I would like to continue with this, to aim at those middle school students because they are so interested with MPO right now. I would continue to try to reach them.
I have a son in that particular age group, the 13-15 year old age group, and he's been with me watching me create the Metal Gear series. But he has always criticized it: 'Oh, Metal Gear is such a s****y game.' Until the point I released Portable Ops. So these kids are really into these handheld machines, and my son is really into Portable Ops as well: the use of the WiFi, the ability to play anywhere, bring it to school, etc. So it seems like the middle school kids are really, really having fun with the PSP. It might not be the Metal Gear series, but I would like to consider this audience because it's very important and new.
IGN: One of the features of every Metal Gear Solid game has been that it's had a unique gameplay system, such as CQC, the sneaking mechanics, even the camouflage and bandages system. Is there anything you can tell us about how you've come up with these creative concepts that have defined the franchise and essentially the stealth action genre?
Kojima: To come up with these ideas or the concept itself is really quite easy, because everyone has ideas. The thing is that it's difficult to first implement these, but what's more difficult is actually convincing my staffs that this will be fun and new and that it will work. Every time I have an idea and I present it to the staff, the staff says, "No way! This is not Metal Gear! I don't want to do this system!" For example, in MGS4, the first idea I had was, 'Okay, let's go to the battlefield,' and everyone said no. So I had to persuade them by using the MGS3 engine, and experiment for about six months.
IGN: Speaking of elements from MGS3, one of the features that was included within Subsistence was online play. Metal Gear Online will obviously be a huge part of MGS4. Were there any lessons that you learned from the implementation of the online elements within Subsistence?
Kojima: Actually, there were a lot of things that we learned from the online system of MGS3. First of all, we didn't have the infrastructure of the online system. I was always interested in doing an online game; however, we didn't have the infrastructure in the past, so in MGS3, we started to create that infrastructure as a start. Also, the biggest thing was that if we concentrated too much just on the Japanese audience and what the Japanese audience expects from the online game part, it most likely won't succeed in America or Europe.
So therefore, I called Ryan (Payton) to help me out – actually, I didn't listen too much to Ryan (laughs) – but I asked him how Americans and Europeans would like the online game, and I'm still adjusting MGO right now to address that. With a great success in Japan with the online for Subsistence and also Portable Ops, it was maybe too great a success, because that influenced a lot of Japanese developers, who said, 'Okay, we're heading in the right direction in the online aspect.'
Quite frankly, I don't think that this might not work on the same level in America or Europe. One example is the lock-on system – in Japan, this is great, because not everyone is accustomed to FPS online games. So the Japan users that picked it up said, 'This is great!" Of course, this might not work in America or Europe. But the staffs actually kind of don't listen to that because we've had the great success in Japan, and they'll say, 'No, we haven't been criticized in Japan, so we're going to go this way."
That's why this Boot Camp is also important for you guys to come in and give feedback directly to the staff, American and European feedback, which is great. Online, it's going to be connected throughout the world, so probably the feedback will be directly fed to the staff, so that may influence them much more. The weakest point that I thought we had with MGO is that it's still not like the feeling of the Metal Gear Solid series, and I'm gradually going to change that, so don't worry about that.
IGN: To follow up on that, earlier on in the Boot Camp you mentioned that Call of Duty 4 was currently one of your favorite games. Are there any elements that you're taking from that to help influence this direction you're looking at changing MGO into?
Kojima: Well, I don't really say, 'Copy this, copy that.' Actually, I don't want the team to really mimic the system or the effects or the layout of the screen or things like that. That's not my intention, actually. I really want them to feel and naturally realize, 'Oh, that's different.' The MGO that we have, that we experimented with in Japan, was a huge success – there's still a lot of fans saying that it's great, so the staff is thinking, 'Oh, we're in the right direction all the time.'
However, by looking at Call of Duty 4 and games like that, created by a non-Japanese staff, I want my staff to realize, 'Oh, this is something different. Maybe we should have questions about what we're doing.' I really want them to realize this by themselves, and that's why I'm guiding them to realize that.
Some staff members that I have working on MGO, I've been working with them and they've been working with me for 15 years, so they're traditional in how they create games. They create the rules of the game first, and MGO is the same way: they first think about rules of the game, and construct the rules as to the gameplay. But look at Call of Duty 4 – it's not all about the rules, it's more about the reality. You get really freaked out about being in that environment of the battlefield. I don't think that the staff of Call of Duty 4 decided the rules first. I want my staff to realize this, and not go the traditional way. I know it's difficult, but I want my staff to realize this by watching other games.
IGN: I know we're looking at a worldwide release of the game on June 12th, and one of the things that we've noticed and talked about during the playthrough is that some elements for the Japanese version of Metal Gear games didn't appear to be in the North American or European version of the game. Are there any other mild or subtle differences that are in different regionalized copies of MGS4?
Kojima: I've been kind of doing that in my past Metal Gear series, adjusting according to territories, but this time, that wasn't the priority. We have the online that goes online worldwide at the same time, so my priority this time is to release the game the same way in Japan, America, Europe and other parts of Asia as well. Maybe the language, of course the language will be different, and there will be small adjustment to that, but that's not the key this time. The primary target is to release worldwide with the same product.
IGN: Now there were a few things that fans of the series have easily picked up on in footage released of the game, such as Policenauts posters. Even the Mark II is reminiscent of Snatcher. I have a two part question. First, how many elements of previous games, such as Zone of the Enders or Snatcher, have helped to influence or shape game elements of MGS4? Secondly, would you return to Zone of the Enders or Snatcher possibly once you've put Metal Gear Solid 4 to rest?
Kojima: You might think that I might pass away because I'm putting everything into this past series! (laughs)
To answer your first question, none, actually – that's just a service to the fans, the genuine fans of Kojima Productions. Policenauts and Snatcher wasn't probably released in America and some other parts of the world outside of Japan. In Japan, there are still a lot of core fans who really love all of the series. Even Meryl – she used to appear in Policenauts – so it's a kind of service to say thank you to the fans, actually.
Finally, it's the end of Snake, so I'd really want to start something really fresh and new when I create the game for the next one. However, maybe the sequel to ZOE, or a remake of Snatcher, for instance, if I just participate as a producer, yeah, that could be possible.
IGN: Finally, the stories of the Metal Gear universe have always been incredibly complex, very detailed and full of layered metaphors that tie in through society, literature, culture, and other elements like that. How have you balanced these issues as a storyteller and designer versus the current games as art or entertainment debate?
Kojima: You mean including the stupid parts as well, right? (laughs) I'm a little embarrassed to say, but recent game development is always about the big projects. So there's someone who just thinks about the concepts, someone who creates the maps, someone who thinks about the story, and it's really difficult to balance out those different teams usually in a big project. For me, since I'm kind of balancing all of this, with the maps, the concept and the story part, it's really easier for me because I can tighten up and balance those elements as opposed to other titles that are created differently.
I've been trying to pass on the baton to my younger staff to create the series, but it was difficult, and I kind of look back and think that maybe this was the reason that it was difficult to say to the younger creators that they should keep on creating Metal Gear. For instance, motion capture – some other teams might have different units to do motion capture sessions. Some might have a totally different unit to write the motion capture script, maybe they might ask Hollywood to participate and things like that. But for Metal Gear Solid 4, I was doing all of this together, so it was easier for me to do it because I could think of the game design and which emotion would work best and things like that.
IGN: Thank you very much for your time.

Great interview!
It's always nice to hear from Kojima, he always seems so humble, unlike most western devs. It's relieving.

Ok, my suggestion:
MGS3: May 10th
MGS Portable Ops: May 17th
MGS: May 24th
MGS2: May 31st
MGS4: June 12th
Like I said when I last posted a suggestion for this, the week after we start playing will be devoted to discussing the game and how it will tie in to MGS4.
12 days for GTA4 is a hard task to pull off, actually^^
I need to lower the playtime to ~5 days or so (and skip MGS1, as I don't have it anymore, dog ate it), to make it thru^^

Import Essentials, cretin!
Anyway, MGS3 is a fairly short game, so you should be able to finish it in between playing GTA.
