Okay so i got the music from the clock and cut it down to the 4 seperate tracks, included the whole set in one track AND just as a gift and extra track i cut together for true MGS fans ^^
I was gonna password the .rar with a really tricky mgs related password. which could only be figured out by working out an ottendorf cypher. But thats was too much effot plus everone who is looking forward to MGS4 needs to listen to these millions of times. and my gift track to get amped.
Enjoy (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9LXIFCEQ)

you promised me Rep? O.o when was that lol. Anywho you're welcome ^^ really cant wait to get my hands on the complete score for this game!! (being a huge score fan and all haha)
I've been watching cutscenes from MGS3 tonight, mainly ones with The Boss and such, her confession to Jack near the end, the ending cutscene and things like that. IF what we are told is true and that MGS4 has moments that will smash MGS3s ending.....im gonna be very emotional when playing MGS4 =[ i know that sounds pussy lol but like some on here im a very devoted MGS fan. been one since the begining. No doubt the ending is going to be something never to be forgotten (we all know by now snake is going to die) and i already know im get teary. =\ bloody Kojima and his flawless games -.-
On another note. I think the dates you set for the MGS marathon are good ones to go by, seph ^^
Just to re-cap for those doing it.
MGS3: May 10th
MGS Portable Ops: May 17th
MGS: May 24th
MGS2: May 31st
MGS4: June 12th

Yeah, order of creation I think is better.

You do that losers, but as I explained in another thread, playing them chronologically places us closer to the beginning of MGS4.
MGS2 contains most of the unanswered questions too.
Passive, we should probably post them in a separate, spoiler-free thread when we approach May 10th, for the people who don't want to be spoiled by the MGS4 thread.

^Lol :P
Ya, I've played MGS1 to 3 in that order always. I like playing in that order the best :)
I wonder...
Maybe I should get multiple copies of MGS4... since I have 1 MGS1, 2 MGS2's, and 3 MGS3's now... should I complete the pattern?! :O
Lol.
I guess but does that really matter when we've already played them so much? I mean maybe for a rookie who's never done them before will need MGS2 right before MGS4 but not us I would think. Unless, your memory is the equivalence to a sack of douche.

Well, for me, I haven't played MGS2 for over 2 years, and I imagine it's been even longer for some of you.
curryking1
04-13-2008, 05:42 PM
I dunno... I've played these games a ridic amount of times... and a few key individual sequences even more times... lol :P
One part I loved to play was the massive shootout at the end of MGS2 lol... and usually I would just end up soldiering through to the end game if I had time :P
MGS2... it's been a while since I've gone through the entire game of MGS2 but I know it like a lover. I know the sequence of events in the story of that game like the back of my hand.
MGS1 I can play a lot. I can sit down for like 20 minutes every other day and eventually get through it. I don't know what it is... the game is just so fun to go through the entire game even just a bit at a time...
MGS3 I've completed many times as well, the game was just so fun to play and the graphics are so beautiful. I think my favourite environment is the Cave after the Ocelot battle... beautiful...
I got myself covered for MGS4... I've prepared for it (albeit not intentionally) long before it's June 12th release XD

Really there is no way they were "meant to be played" imo anyway. maybe we should vote? as some say order of release others say chronologically

lo i have the SE and LE of MGS1, both versions of MGS2, both of MGS3, MG:Po LE. why 3 copies of MGS3? unless you have the LE in which case grats! ^^

Metal Gear Solid 4 gets Bluetooth headset (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/04/14/metal-gear-solid-4-gets-bluetooth-headset/)
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.ps3fanboy.com/media/2008/04/mgs4bluetooth.jpg
Looks like a Metal Gear Solid 4-branded Bluetooth headset is about to come out, just in time for the release of the game. For a MSRP of $60, this gray over-the-ear headset will allow you to trashtalk opponents in Metal Gear Online. The device has 8 hours of talktime, a 30 foot range, and comes with a carrying case. Obviously, it'll work for all PS3 games, not just MGS4.
Sorry if old.

I think all bluetooth headsets look pretty stupid. I can't help but laugh at anybody who wears them in public. But all you're gonna be doing is sitting in front of the TV with it, so it doesn't really matter too much.
I still think this one is a little bit pricey though.

heres your Metal Gear Monday Update from the Playstation blog
Welcome to the kick-off of “Metal Gear Mondays” on PlayStation.Blog! Here we’ll be bringing weekly articles about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Online packed with news and content including surprise announcements, guest authors, and much more!
This week we’ll go into a lot of detail on Metal Gear Online and the upcoming MGO Beta. You must attain a free pre-order bonus gift “Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2″ DVD with MGO Beta Unique Product Voucher Code (UPVC) insert to participate in the MGO Beta as explained in our post last week.
If you have attained a MGO Beta UPVC, then Thursday, April 17th, this week, the download of the MGO Beta client will be available to you through the PlayStation Store on your PS3 (but please bear in mind, gameplay does not start until April 21st , and then will run until May 5th) - again, please do not try to redeem your UPVC before April 17th, you will just get an error message. You need to carefully follow the instructions provided on the MGO Beta UPVC insert in order to get at the download of the MGO Beta client through the PlayStation Store on your PS3. It is also important to note that your UPVC for the MGO Beta is good for only one PS3/PSN/PlayStation Store account, so you should absolutely NOT share your UPVC with anyone (unless you plan to forfeit your MGO Beta to whoever you give the UPVC to). There will not be any additional issue/reissue, replacement, etc of these codes - so again, we stress, please DO NOT share your UPVC for the MGO Beta with anyone!
Once you’ve got the MGO Beta client downloaded and installed, it’s time to load it up. Upon launching and going past the main menu, you’ll see that you need to sign up for a Konami ID. What is a Konami ID you ask? It is Konami’s service that has actually been around for a while in Japan, which basically allows for a unified account and access across various Konami products and services. Konami ID will be used for the first time in MGO for the US, and using the Konami ID allows for some of the really unique features we plan to offer the community with MGO. Once you hit the Konami ID sign up menu option, you should notice something subtle, but really cool: MGO launches the PS3 web browser from in-game and takes you to the Konami ID registration page. You can also simply visit http://id.konami.net from your favorite Web browser right now and sign up as well, to get a head start!

I want a codec :-D
I think branding it (and the PS3)
METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS LIMITED EDITION
ruins it.
Just give us the fucking earpiece, no writing, we know what it is. Same with the PS3. Totally takes away from the effect when you have a reminder that it is a limited edition PS3.
I'm done.

Konami wasn't too smart when it came to branding the headset, there should be a Octocon insignia on it. It would be more inline with the MGS story, especially if you're trying to make a collecter's item.

MGS2 and 3 were cut ever so slightly to accomodate for the german ratings board (dunno what MGS2 was rated, my box has NO rating on it^^). Actually, I didn't even now that until some months ago^^
And if it got an USK18 rating, it won't be cut at all, which is GREAT! And it means, it will be quite violent, too. Not that this is mandatory, but MGS4 is a very mature game, and thus needs to be realistic. I don't think, it will be much more violent than 3 ("interrogating" done by Volgin^^), but the graphics took a huge leap!

Kojima Disappointed With Metal Gear Solid 4
Looks like Kojima Jr. isn't the only one disappointed with Metal Gear Solid. The latest issue of the UK's Edge magazine contains an interview with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, who expresses disappointment with the latest game in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It isn't so much the gameplay itself as it is the graphics.
"Game-wise, it's pretty close to the original vision: you sneak into the battlefield and can choose whether to do a stealth game or interfere with the battle more directly. But the graphic, side things like motion-blending and the size of the map, totally was not accomplished to my original vision - to my satisfaction.
Now Kojima is a well-known perfectionist, but it is a bit disturbing to see him voice his dissatisfaction with what is supposed to be the masterpiece of the franchise. So where does he lay the blame for not fully realizing his vision?
"When we first showed the game engine at TGS, the staff were really proud and happy. PS3 was a dream machine, y'know, and we were going to work on this and that - and we had so many ideas. But when we actually started developing the game, we realized there were a lot of restrictions and so it turned out how you see it today. The original vision was to go ten steps further, the reality was just one step, which isn't to say we didn't progress.
So there was certainly progress made, but not enough progress...or more specifically, not enough power for progress. Apparently the team overestimated what the PlayStation 3 was capable of.
I remember saying three years ago that we wanted to create something revolutionary, but in reality we couldn't really do that because of the CPU. We're using the Cell engine to its limit., actually. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the PS3 machine, it's just that we weren't really aware of what the full-spec PS3 offered - we were creating something we couldn't entirely see.
Well there you have it, straight from the man himself. Metal Gear Solid 4 is not revolutionary. Personally I think the man is being a bit hard on himself, but that's what great minds do.http://kotaku.com/381412/kojima-disappointed-with-metal-gear-solid-4
Anyone got the full interview?

That's insanely amazing that he comes out and says that.

Well there you have it, straight from the man himself. Metal Gear Solid 4 is not revolutionary.
Lol! Maybe in just the size of maps or technical aspects of graphics.
I'm sure there's other stuff to enjoy in this game than just what makes the CPU go wild.

i've got the Edge and i do believe he said that. but, come on, if Kojima created a photo-realistic version with content that made your eyes bleed, he'd still be unhappy. that's what drives the man and is why every iteration has improved on it's predecessor. i like the fact that he's never satisfied. obviously EA are satisfied with Madden, if you get my drift

See, I wasn't critcizing Kojima-san for what he said. What he said was exactly supposed to be taken as you mention in your post. But my point being geared towards the sensationalism our industry journalists show towards those same words. I hate that n believe that's stalling us from actually getting the right crowd. Why do I feel like this was bound to be said? And it's not like he's saying he's dissatisfied with the story or the gameplay, two of the most important factors that make up the game. He just thought it would've been on a much bigger scope than it is. Thank god he pushed for that dual layer Blu-Ray disc though or I'm sure he'd have a lot more to say on the matter.

First I would like to say this will be a day one purchase, because I'm a huge MGS fan and I'm sure the game will be an amazing experience.
Now since we got that out of the way, I have to admit the visuals we see today from a character design perspective are not on the same level as the initial TGS trailer released back in the day. I do have to say the overall visuals from an environmental perspective have improved, but the incredibly detailed Snake model has been somewhat downgraded. I'm sure the game will be considered one of the best looking PS3 titles when released, but it will not be light years ahead of other titles like MGS2 on the PS2. To be honest PS3 development has progressed very quickly and I'm sure some tools and techniques could have been used with MGS4, but would have moved the release time well beyond 2008...
It looks like the Microsoft viral marketing smear campaign is in full effect, but real MGS fans are not falling for this bullshit...
curryking1
04-19-2008, 03:54 AM
Ya man, I agree. I think the character models from the TGS realtime demos have been noticeably downgraded.
I wish all the dust and particle effects and random debris flying in the air was also as dense now as it were in the TGS 05 trailer.
Man, if it were me I'd sacrifice a few notches on resolution to achieve those awesome ambient details and character models.

Did everyone miss the last sentence?
Personally I think the man is being a bit hard on himself, but that's what great minds do.
I think that reels it back in from being sensationalist. The 'MGS4 is not revolutionary' was almost assuredly meant in a dry humor kind of way.' Everyone, let's not blow our lids off over this. It's just an article with some snarky tone. Oh shit, Kojima pushed the system to its limits, and had to make sacrifices??? THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE EVAR!!!

I read the whole thing anyhow, and I did also notice the end.
But just in my puny defense of my opinion here, I've been under the impression for a long time that the game doesn't look as good as the TGS 05 trailer anymore. Main parts being character models and ambience.

04-19-2008, 04:07 AM
^^^ I'm not downing the game, but let's be real the character models have been downgraded; they still look spectacular. If you go back and look at the TGS Snake model it damn near looked like CG. I honestly think if Kojima would decide to produce another MGS on the PS3 he would have a better shot at achieving his "visual expectations". There's tons of new development tools and techniques being use to create incredible results on the PS3.
Does any of this have any real impact on the MGS4 experience on the PS3 absolutely not... Every journalist that has played the game stated it was an amazing experience and that includes the current visuals.

04-19-2008, 04:26 AM
Hmmm okay i'll finally have my say.
Shut up about the graphics. Seriously. MGS isn't about graphics and its never been like that whenever a MGS game is released sure it looks mind blowing but a week or so later we see things from other games that smash it to bit graphically. Please stop talking about how snakes character model has been 'downgraded' no matter how true that may be. The character himself hasn't been downgraded and when it comes to metal gear thats all you should be worried about.
EDIT: and dont take this as an attack at some posters here. i just get pretty pissed off when graphics comes into the issue when talking about MGS. Yes kojima isnt very pleased with how it turned out. but our expectations are much lower than a gods remember?
curryking1
04-19-2008, 04:35 AM
Who said MGS is 'about graphics?'
Why does commenting on it have to make it an issue...? I mean... is it that bad I would've liked the game to look better or more like the TGS trailer? Am I ruining something for someone by just saying that? Just a thought thrown out there because that's just what I would've liked...
Everything's gotta be an issue on this site. I mean... for once let someone just say something because that's how they would've liked it even so.
What's wrong in a little criticism here and there? It's not like we're calling for them to remake the game... and it's not remotely that we are saying it's going to be ruined because of a little criticism about it...
Seriously guys... let some people just comment on something and for once assume they are just commenting on it for the sake of their own personal interest in the game in a way that isn't trying to ruin it for themselves or anyone else...
I would've liked better graphics. Who wouldn't? I just liked how the TGS 05 trailer looked a lot. Issue here anywhere??? I don't see it:shrug:

This game looks incredible, and we haven't even seen very much of it. The game also doesn't look as detailed as the TGS video because that was before they added the stylistic filters to it and toned down a lot of the more vibrant colours. Kojima is disappointed because he wanted MGS4 to be the move from realism to naturalism, but they couldn't do that and keep the graphics looking respectable, so they had to abandon that idea. Obviously this game's still going to be the best game ever made, and Kojima's only disappointed because he's that brilliant.

Konami reveals additional details on Metal Gear Solid 4
http://images.strategyinformer.com/game_images/thumbs/473x/0008/0001684.jpg
Konami Entertainment revealed additional information on its forthcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots game for the PlayStation 3 which is scheduled to be released across Europe on June 12th.
The game will be released on a Blu-ray disc containing both Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the conclusion of Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid saga, and Kojima Productions’ multiplayer-only title Metal Gear Online.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set in a battle-scarred future where huge conglomerates fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries. Within this bleak world, an aged Solid Snake has been charged with infiltrating a number of key locations across the globe, including the Middle East and South America.
As the game’s June 12th release nears, Kojima Productions has further whet appetites with a number of key additions regarding the new title’s gameplay and scenario. The Tokyo-based studio has revealed that Snake is on a UN-appointed mission, while his main adversary is Liquid Ocelot who is controlling several private armies in a scenario that is based around the future concept that war is to the 21st century, what oil was to the 20th.
These private military companies – PMCs – are integral to the events in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. During the course of the game, Snake can team-up with local militia and trade items with them, with Hal “Otacon” Emmerich back again to provide Snake with key intel. Otacon provides Snake with local information and useful hardware, including the Metal Gear Mk.II, a small remote-controlled robot with cloaking and offensive capabilities. Similarly, a new character called Drebin joins the cast, who buys and sells weapons from the player, allowing him or her to amass valuable Drebin Points to purchase more powerful weapons.
Other key additions to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots include rumble support for the new DualShock 3 controller, full 5.1 Dolby surround sound support, and more interactivity during the cutscenes such as allowing users to change angles and summon flashbacks.

Much like the tanker prologue of MGS2, this opening act drops you right in at the deep end with an experienced, equipped Snake but only pieces of a tutorial. The term ‘fan service’ sells short the incredible amount of series knowledge required to really penetrate MGS4, feel for its characters or marvel at the progress it’s made. A flank-speed journey with its own narrative mission to complete, it wastes little time on rookies.

Exactly... and I am usually bored after 1 line of text, as they always repeat the same stuff over and over and over and... stop it^^ Especially those articles, where they just reiterate in a different fashion what the trailer showed or what Kojima said at E3 5 months earlier
For the most part is this just cut up old trailers? Or is everything we see running on the 'new graphics standard'? Like the scene with Snake smoking the cigarette after the watermelons get squashed looks new yet performs the same way as the old one.

I'm pretty sure the downgrade in graphics comments comes from the TGS 05 trailer and not from any other.
I don't understand why everyone keeps using different trailers to compare other than the one everyone is referring the game's graphics have downgraded from.
Edit: I personally don't care, but I'm not gonna just ignore the fact that no one uses the first MGS4 trailer for comparisons.
I think the real difference, I would have to say, is seen in video and not in stills anyways.

Well, the old TGS trailer was different...
It was set in a very controlled, small environment and the new ones (especially E3 07 etc.) have many people running around beating the crap out of each other in some scenes.
And... downgrad my ass... I like it, that all that ugly motion blur is gone... I mean, it often makes look a game less good, since in the end, motion blur is just blur and doesn't help anyone. (there are uses for MB however, but "making it look cool" (i.e. the EA way of MB) is not one of them)

I think people are forgetting the addition of Motion blur as well, as of the Leipzig 06 trailer (the Gekkou attack), and it only got better from there with the trailer showing Beauty & the Beast squad...
Definitely no downgrade here... as Kojima said when they first showed it @ TGS '05, it would look better.

is it me or the faces of the old pics look more natural and life like, especially Otacon's. lighting definetly looks better on the older pics as they are softer and makes everything so natural. the new shots have the obvious upgrade of textures and particle volume, they're darker and more rigid thouhg. also more visiable aliasing on the new shots too. it's a draw for me.

GT, I understand your point and agree; I remember them saying something crazy about the initial snake model have more polygons in his mustache than the whole Snake model on the PS2... *Something like that...*
I'm sure once they started full development they had to tone some of the detail down on the models...
In the bigger scheme of things it does not really matter and the game is going to look great and be an amazing experience when released. After seeing MGS3 on the PS2 I can't imagine what's in store on the PS3...
I think some people here are missing the point and going crazy over the visuals when that's not the most important aspect of the game anyway...

PS3’s Metal Gear Solid 4 catching heat for “implied” child rape from BBFC
By Triston McIntyre
One of the most anticipated exclusive titles for the Playstation 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, has caught the attention of the big bad game police over at the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) because of one rather questionable instance in the game. Though GTA IV has its hookers, and Man Hunt has its gruesome slayings, the BBFC was up in arms that Metal Gear Solid 4 has what was called “implied child rape.”
Sorry to ruin it for those people who didn’t want to hear word one about the game until it was nestled in the Blu-ray drive of their PS3, but at some point in the game, apparently there is “mention of child trauma,” according to developer Kojima. That was originally called “implied child rape” according to the BBFC, as reported by PS3Fanboy.
However, the BBFC was forced to erase its initial statement of “implied child rape.”. Obviously, a real game depiction of child rape would demand the highest possible video game rating, if not make it banned straight out. There’s a large distinction to be made between that which is implicit and that which is depicted.
A larger issue needs to be addressed in this. Debacles like this bring up the age old dilemma of what differentiates video games from film, books, and other forms of media, and how should video game ratings be compared to movie ratings?
After all, movies like Schindler’s List, American History X, and others are permissible because they make a statement about society and culture, right? Though Metal Gear Solid 4 is obviously fictional, what is really the difference between implicit child trauma in video games and that in film? At this point, film is obviously considered a higher form of media entertainment, because film is allowed much more wiggle room with what content it can display.
Some would argue that video games allow you to take control of things that are only depicted on film, which keeps viewers from truly being “involved” in the depiction. That really isn’t a fair argument; pornographic material, movies, and even books are designed to draw viewers and readers in — to have them adopt the roll, emotions, and perspective of the characters those media forms contain.
Really, there is no difference between graphically violent films or books and video games, so how can video games be held to an unfairly higher standard? I’m not saying that child rape is right, or should be depicted anywhere, but if you’re going to act like it never happens, then where is the line drawn?
People shouldn’t be killed. Babies shouldn’t die during birth. Cultures shouldn’t be oppressed. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, and if film is allowed to depict it in whatever way it chooses, then video games should be allowed the same privilege.

I think the older images were from a non-playable build (kinda like a target render) that used a very cinematic approach. The new images are actual texture and polygon renderings hence why you can see polygon edges and aliasing in the new pics but not the old.
While I think the older pics would work good for a cinema, the new shots would work better for the the playable game.

Anyways, I completely forgot to think about the boss fights in MGS4. By the way, I remember reading a quote saying the game runs at 60fps.
If it does, I really wonder why Kojima hasn't released any footage running at that framerate. Seeing games run at 60fps makes a HUGE difference in how it's received visually (Think about CoD4 and DMC4).
Edit: I've been reading other people's opinions on what the framerate in MGS4 will be and I read an interesting comment about motion blur. The user wrote that only 30fps games have used motion blur for every in-game animation, while 60fps games don't have motion blur or only have it during cinematic camera pans. He then has pictures showing MGS4 clearly using motion blur for every animation, so he concludes that it's gonna run at 30 fps.

This is easily explained...
Movies use 24fps and don't stutter at all... this is because of motion blur. If you'd remove the MB or play a game at constant 24fps, you would notice slight stutter in fast paced games (slower games, not so much). So a higher framerate makes less need for MB.
As MGS usually is a slow game, 60fps would be a COMPLETE waste! I just hope, they don't push MB on us (like EA does with NFS or somesuch, I really don't like it).
And, I made a real bargain yesterday. Bough MGS2:S (only had SoL) for 7.99€ at Gamestop... the DVDs are NEW... Not a SINGLE scratch! Only the manual has suffered a little bit... but I don't care about that much^^

More Info About Metal Gear Solid 4 Flashbacks
The latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine has more info on what-looks-like playable Metal Gear Solid memories in MGS4. According to the magazine, cut scenes at the beginning of the missions refer to the franchise's evolution. What's more:
...as characters talk and reference other stars of this universe, you may see an X or L1 button icon quickly flash on the screen. Hit the right button while it's highlighted and you'll be treated to a very brief context flashback. Basically, the system uses images and moments from the past Metal Gear games to help visually rekindle your own memories of the who, what, where, and why.
In short: Clues you into what the fuck is going on. Helpful!
Thanks, T.G. for the tip!

It appears Konami sent them a pre-baked footage for airing on TV. Sessler or anyone at G4TV had no clue to what'll be there. I reckon this should explain the cheesy cynical jokes he tries to make during the length of the video. Especially the rocket launcher part, IMO.
