Im actually quite surprised I was walking round game stores today seeing if anyone actually broke the release date, Everytime I seemed to ask about the game the ones on the counter were sorta "meh" or didnt even know what game I was talking about. Not only that but no ads outside of window whatsover, Instead a big Ninja Gaiden or Haze or GTA but No MGS4. Not even dummy boxes on the chart tables with a "coming soon" sticker on them. I mean this was procedure back when i used to work for "GAME"

I think marketing for this game in terms of stores is really bad. Although I was runnning the treadmill in the gym today looking at the big HDTV they have infront of the treadmills at my gym and low and behold MGS4 advertisment, Brought me goosebumps looking at it while sweating like a pig.

Theres a ASDA near my house which is open 24H, im thinking of goin there on midnight see if they are selling it (their technology department closes at 10 however during special days like GTA4 and Harry potter books, big queues tend to form there before 11 pm, although I have a feeling becuase of the bad (none) marketing done for this game chances are im gonna have to wait till 8 in the morning to get it. Anyways sorry for the rant this game has been the only thing on my mind this whole day literally. Oh yea and I got my DS3 this morning aswell wohoo.

HOLY SH*T. That is all I can say. I've just had 4 hours of the best videogaming experience I have had in years. To refresh, I played MGS 1-3 over the past month, all I can say is while I enjoyed those games fully, this game is easily leagues above. This game is EPIC. Easily GOTY material thus far.

The graphics, interface, gameplay and cinematic value are some of the best (if not the best) I've seen this generation to date. No joke. Also, I think that based on one of the items in the game you are all in for a big positive suprise...I haven't had a chance to test it out yet though but will try again tomorrow before work

Well after being awake for nearly 24 hours now I must say that even if u have seen all the trailers and been checking out theses threads, You have not been spoilt cause theres just soo much to this game that it feels like ure discovering new things all the time. Im starting to go really dizzy now and even though my eyes are closing off I cant stay away from the game although my gameplay has been affected (done over 10 gameovers already)

The polish on this game is at such an amazing level this is going to be the benchmark for all games remotley trying to be bestsellers. Everything from menus to cutscenes to boss fights to weapon customasation just has that superwaxed gleaming polish feeling that makes it so relaxing to spend hours upon hours on the game. Konami have seriously outdone themselves. This is a bigger leap than MGS1 to MGS2. Interactive entertainment has hit a new high.

I have played it a few hours now and judging by that alone, the game is as close to a 10/10 as it possibly can get if you ask me, or depending how you define "10/10" you might as well call it a 10/10 game. But I know what you mean with the GTA4 comparsion and by that it's definately a 10/10 game ;). It truely is masterpiece!

And I totally agree with the post(s) above, that it is indeed incredible how the game is so über polished in every possible way. It seems that the dev team have out done them selves this time. The ps3 (nor any other platform) has not seen such game before so far.

I took off work early so I could play the game. I liked the level where you get the barrel so much I played it through a few times a few different ways just because its that good....met up with the certain leader of the CID team sent in to monitor ocelot and and just met the beauties....this game is stupidly good...superlatives can not describe it...this kind of joy is what got me hooked on gaming when I was a kid....I actually cancelled a date tomorrow night so I could stay in and play this.

I just started Act II and just wanted to chime in. This game is fucking EPIC. The gameplay is so far above and beyond what I expected even going from the old MGS games. My only problem so far is picking a group of weapons to stick with! The choices are overwhelming....

shoot the shit out of him until he's really low on health (im talking one or two bullets and he's dead) then wait for him to get really close to you and shoot him dead. while he's laying down really quickly equipt the suringe and stand behind him, when he stands up cqc him (press and hold R1) and then press triangle. this will inject him with the supressors, killing him.

I waited in line for 12 hours at the West Hollywood Best Buy, got it signed by David Hayter, Patric Zimmerman, Khary Payton (Drebin 893), Ken Imaizumi, and Ryan Payton (he remembered me!), then since I was like #7 in line, they invited me to the VIP area of the launch where I got a free shirt and got some free snacks & drinks, but I didn't stay there too long 'cause I wanted to get home & play so I got home at about 1:30. I played it from start to finish, no breaks except for when I ran to my leasing office to pay a utility bill. I finished at about 7 PM. That's how I do!

I beat Vamp like this:

I equipped my grenade launcher and then holding circle at select weapon screen, equipped the Stun greanades instead of explosive ones and if you hit him with the stun grenades, his psyche gauge goes down and he gets dizzy, then you can CQC him and yeah just syring him. AWESOME FIGHT!



By the way I just completed Act4.........I'll admit: I shed tears.

One tranq shot to the head drops him (maybe 2) and he drops asleep for a second, get him in CQC and syringe him and it's GG.

By the end of this game

I had cried twice and one other point almost brought me to tears

Oh yeah, btw I met Jeff Rubenstein & Brandon Laurino at the VIP party, Jeff Rubenstein is the guy that posts at the PS Blog when they have their cool updates & stuff, and Brandon Laurino posted for Metal Gear Mondays on behalf of Konami/KojiPro at the PS Blog, so I got to thank them for their informative efforts and Laurino broke the news to me that MGS4 has DLC for it on day one (I asked him not to tell me what it was though). Additionally, they're continuing Metal Gear Mondays with more info.... he wouldn't tell me what but it's apparently very big :-D, possibly movie-related???

HOLY FUCK at the end of Act 2... the cutscenes are so FUCKING INCREDIBLE! Although there are some SERIOUS errors about Genetics (the screen shows 5% difference between Big Boss and Snake... Chimpanses and Humans differ only 1%... so, Snake could really be a f*cking Snake^^), the storytelling is SOOOOOOOO GREAT. It's just... I can't describe it...

I can't fathom, that this game is a game... I mean, the graphics (imho) GREATLY surpass Uncharted (well, I am biased though^^). There are scenes (the Snake eating the rat or whatever at the beginning of act 1, or when Otacon looks at Namois cleavage) where you cannot tell, if it is game or real... I AM NOT SHITTING, and I usually ALWAYS can spot it if something is CGI (since 3D modelling and lighting is one of my hobbys).



I can REALLY see myself playing this game OVER and OVER and OVER again... It !! IS !! that good. I had rated MGS2 an 8.5 (too many codec moments and I don't like Raiden) and MGS3 a 9, but MGS4 being what it is, I HAVE to give it a fucking 12!

And btw... I love that Kojima took my advice and used less codec and more cutscenes... And I love it that the codec now has a big ass screen...

I will go to bed now (it is 323hrs now^^) and will cherish Act 3 tomorrow!

I beat Vamp like this:

I equipped my grenade launcher and then holding circle at select weapon screen, equipped the Stun greanades instead of explosive ones and if you hit him with the stun grenades, his psyche gauge goes down and he gets dizzy, then you can CQC him and yeah just syring him. AWESOME FIGHT!



By the way I just completed Act4.........I'll admit: I shed tears.

I loved that fight as well. It got annoying after awhile because I didn't think about using the suringe untill the third time I killed him (also found out if you shoot him in the head after the first time you kill him, all his life drains). Anyways, after fighting for about 25 minutes, I remembered that you can stop his nanomachines, and I fucked him up after that.

The Metal Gear Ray vs. Metal Gear Rex was an awesome fight too. And it was a shame to see what happened to Raiden, I didn't cry, but I was like, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I had grown to like Ninja Raiden.

i'll admit to the masses, i cried =[ i had tears of joy when johnny pulled of his mask and saved Meryl, i teared up when naomi died, also when he message came up after killing the AI. I liked naomi =[ alot. I was teary in the mission briefing with raiden saying he has no family and falls apart at snakes feet. that scene was just amazing.. and then as most will i cried in act 4 =[ when he turned around and saw BB i was just... wow i had to contain my screams of amazment and joy then they seemed like fighting but BB embraced snake and bam. tears were flowing right away. nearly every single cutscene was just so amazingly made. This is without a doubt the greatest game i'll ever play. oh i was also very very silent when jack gets to see little john for the first time. yet another touching scene. god i can't wait to play this game again ^^ and i keep listening to the track "father and son"

i wish the series didnt have to end =[ I now envy everyone playing it for the first tim.. there's nothing like seeing BB appear and hug his son..

I like to save incrementally in Metal Gear, that way I have saves throughout the game that I can go to if I want to see a certain part or show somebody a certain part.

I almost cried when EVA died, that to me was really sad. The tears started coming as I was crawling through the hallway with microwaves and I was jamming down on the triangle button as Snake is crawling painfully slow, and then once Naomi started talking and Otacon started bawling, they just couldn't be contained :laugh: . I also definitely cried as Snake put the gun in his mouth and at Meryl's wedding Otacon said he's getting some well-earned rest... I also cried when Raiden got in front of Haven ship and saved Snake, allowing himself to be crushed nearly to death... Raiden is great.

There's more but I want to play the game again so I'm out for now :-p

the ending was done and the credits started to role. i was a little let down by then end because i THOUGHT snake shot himself and they didnt really address it anymore and the screen turned black right after otacon and sunnys exchnge. so i though okay... it was a great game but not the ending i though. and i changed my tv input to PC and was listening to the music and it stopped and made a boom noise like it was important or something and then it was silent and i was like wtf is happing? so i changed it back to the ps3 input right as the sceen turns from black to snake. i DIDNT get to see big boss in the credits so i had no idea and i was like... oh okay he didnt kill himself then i heard BBs voice and though....no way. nuh uh! cant be! and then bam the camera panned to him and i was containing screams. so yeah :P i REALLY REALLY lucked out on that ending

oh and

the microwave room was just brilliant. looking up and seeing nearly every single good guy dying. while looking down and seeing snake crawling. and the music while me as the player is struggling so hard to keep going any further. at one point right near the end i was so close to the door and about to die and i actually shouted (not full on loud) COME OOOON!! and my arm was killing me.

Finished the game yesterday, to be brief the best game I've ever played.

The part that got me tearing was during Meryl and Akiba's wedding. A damn lol I forgot who asked Otacon if Snake was going to show up. Otacon was saying he doesn't know where Snake is. All I kept thinking was snake is by himself ready to shoot himself.

I loved that part when you first get to Shadow Moses. While going walking through I just couldn't help but remember playing MGS1. I loved it when you could also hear the codec message while walking to different areas in Shadow Moses.

This game surpassed my expectations by far, and the ending... Well, only Kojima could've pulled that off.

I pretty much cried from the moment Ocelot died 'till I spotted "Big Boss" in the credits. Only had two breaks. One a little while after after Snake "shot" himself, and one when Raiden was reunited with Rose.

Oh, and then I cried again when Big Boss died. I seriously don't think I've ever cried so much over a game, did it when EVA died too, not to mention Vamp(He was too awesome to die!), when Snake was told he had become a biological weapon, when Raiden threw himself in front of Haven, when Zero died, when I defeated Crying Wolf and she was carried off by a wolf and there was the falshback to Sniper Wolf, when ... Well, let's just say I cried a lot xD

Oh, and when Big Boss' name appeared on the credits, I was like "...when did we hear his voice?" Then the credits stopped at the name and I went "oooooooh shit, is this for real!?"

Of course, when he actually appeared, I didn't even attempt to contain my screams of "this game is AWESOME!"(probably the phrase I used most today, usually screaming at the top of my voice.)

Oh, and the Mantis battle? So awesome!!!!! The MGS flashback too, amazing stuff. And walking through Shadow Moses again all these years after? Awesome fanservice, no, ultimate awesomest fanservice! Is it even possible to have this much awesome in one game!? Kojima must have divided by Zero or something...

Since practically all of Shadow Moses from MGS1 was recreated, and all they would need to do is spiff it up a bit and remake cutscenes, a remake of MGS1 wouldn't be to hard, now would it? I hated this fight the most. It was annoying.

Basically what I did was get a pretty good shotgun, go to the top floor of the building, and let myself be detected, then go back downstairs and wait for Raven to come into the room, while dodging things that are thrown at me. You can get around half a bar everytime she comes in and tries to blow you up, but it is a pretty long and tedious boss battle.

If you have the Tranq Sniper Rifle, just go to the top floor and use your octocamo to hide. She'll circle either above or below you, but you should still be able to get a shot on her. Once you hit her, go back into the building and hide again. Usually, her airstrikes through the building will miss you if you're hiding in that top room. If she spots you in the room, she'll hover right in front of it, giving you a great shot on her w/o much fear of being hit by that hellacious grenade launcher of hers.

When you defeat the Bosses, well against screaming Mantis , When they loose their armor you canc hoose or not to kill the beauty. I waited and waited and run over to flee her from catching me and I entered an blank room with a countdown. And when it reaches 0 the cutscene comes back to normal.

Just wonder if this affects the game.

You only need to use your tranquilizer gun after they've shed their armor. you don't need to use it the whole time. You'll still get the masks. Funny enough, I tranq'd them instinctively cuz they were so....I dunno, precious, I guess is the word.

Nothing, it's just for taking pictures, which can be exported to your PS3's "Photo" menu. Hooking up a second controller allows you to take pictures during cutscenes as well as gameplay, even when you don't have the camera equipped.

The PSP game has been confirmed as fake by Ryan Payton, so that can't be it.

Ac!d wasn't shown i n that clip, indicating that the two new games would be canon titles. I doubt it will be MGS, but isn't MG good enough? ;)

It s reallyu wierd the first time i beat the game i almost spent 20 hours on normal difficulty non stop in front of the tv...

and when I began a new game on " hard " I did better. But now i m totally screwed up against Mantis..don t know how to beat her yet.

But i m always amazed when i saw really " perfect " gameplay like those hardcore playrs on Ninja Gaiden or DMC.

The only thing which disgust me a little bit is the saving system lol.

well the only game I was playing during a long time was probably god hand.
I remember buying the game on a friday afternoon , then bat it on the normal and difficult level. When i finished the hard difficulty i watch which time it was.... it was sunday morning lol.

Almost zombified during a game...And MGS4 eombified me, when I play the game I m totally out of time, time passes so quick...

Probably the next game to zombify me a third time will probably be Soul Calibur IV....
And I haven t played GTA IV yet.

HOLY FUCK at the end of Act 2... the cutscenes are so FUCKING INCREDIBLE! Although there are some SERIOUS errors about Genetics (the screen shows 5% difference between Big Boss and Snake... Chimpanses and Humans differ only 1%... so, Snake could really be a f*cking Snake^^), the storytelling is SOOOOOOOO GREAT. It's just... I can't describe it...


Well, they might be referring to the differences WITHIN the genetics that make humans distinct from other species.


MGS4 is the only game to make me stand up, wave my arms in the air, and shout out words such as "HELL NAW!" or "SO AWESOME!!" or "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!" etc countless times throughout the game.

MGS4 is the only thing in any medium of storytelling that has made me TOTALLY lose faith. Kojima is God for coming up with the microwave scene. The amounts of emotions I felt from that moment alone makes up for more than all I've ever felt in my whole experience of video games.

I seriously thought it was game over and everybody was going to die. I seriously thought Kojima was going to stomp Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and pull off the biggest tragedy in the history of fiction.

By the way, I think I have an idea why Kojima is the voice of God. He might be the secret boss that no one ever found in MGS4. Or am I wrong and someone already found the secret boss?

Lie on the ground, and let the camo change colours. Then get up and shake your controller, and your camo should instantly go back to the normal colour. That is all that shaking off your camo does. It isn't really necessary, but it was included.

Didn't work for me at first either. But after trying to shake some more, it worked. Just try shaking it with different strengths.

For the first briefing, can you view it in the start menu?

You can also use the sixaxis sensors on the MK II pushing the pad up or down.

I just completed the game and all I can say is wow!
*I took me a little under 19 hours on Big Boss Hard.*
I would have to think that Kojima's vision to create a true movie/game experience was realized with this title. I would have to say MGS4 is a technical feat for videogaming period. Once again this game is not for everyone considering it's an interactive movie, but if you want to see what the PS3 is all about it starts with this title. I can say with no doubt this game will be one of the most memorable titles of this gaming generation. I would have to think all MGS fans will consider this a true masterpiece and a hell of a way for the Snake saga to end...

MGS4 is so much more than just a mere display of the PS3's power or a weapon in the console war, though. I can say with 100% confidence that no other video game has achieved what MGS4 does as a mixture of cinema, story, music, characters, design, and gameplay. This is the definition of what a videogame can be at its best, and good lord is it incredible!
