Post 1501 Beeeitch! aaand TOTP! ha.
All I know is, the very idea that this metal gear is gonna pwn the last three completely blows my mind. and from that little clip of dialogue I get the idea that it is. This story and game is gonna be bigger than any metal gear yet! Even the music gives me a joygasm. :cloud9:
I'm just listening to the audio clip now, and what can I say, I'm starting to get excited! :)

Isn't this the first non-stickied thread to make it past #1000?
*hint*Z, make it a sticky!!!*hint*
EDIT: I know what you're thinking fats!! Can't wait... much...... longer..... neeeed..... MGS4!!!
3 days 0 hrs 58 mins 42 sec 'till the Sony pre-E3 conference....
Wow, and there's me thinking that this was stickied a long time ago!
lol. no need to sticky it since it is active. if we sticky popular game threads we'd have three pages of stickies. better leave things clean and fresh. threads will be bumped or sink gracefully as their topics get warmer or colder. besides, we need to leave some space for the E3 blow-out. :)

Sephiroth, I don't think MGS4 would be at the Sony conference. If it is there then no harm done ofcourse. But there are two other major conferences besides Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft and those are.
SquareEnix and Konami.
Yup, both these giants are having their very own mini conferences on the showfloor. So my guess is their games might not appear at Sony conf but their very own for total concentration for fans.

According to me: MGS1 > MGS3 > MGS2
Based on no evidence at all, I believe
MGS1 > MGS4 > MGS3 > MGS2
All that new stuff in MGS1... Psycho mantis, Octacon, Sniper Wolf, Revolver Ocelot. Best story, best everything.
Worth buying a gamecube just to play the Silicon Knights remake.

Either that or a regular violin/viola.

I mention Kojima Production use Softimage XSI for development of MGS4, and i also mention that Softimage has a new produce out call Face Robot, i think they will buy a copy and use it on MGS4 to speed production up.

^Yeah, to UE like. It reminds me to much of that ugly "Toy Story effect". You know, where every single character looks like they're made out of plastic. The gameplay doesn't sound to good either, and the poly count is about the same as MG2!!

exactly, which is why the game willcome bundled with a guitar; so you can play the music yourself. this is supposed to be a stab at Sing Star.
Man that's lame I want to see GAMEPLAY AUDIO. I won't be convinced of anything till I see true gameplay audio. so there.
there is already a trick to it floating around some warez sites. you need to open Nero's audio editor. then youl see the audio waves. the long waves represent enemies. the small ones are your ammo. remember, you didn't ear it from me!
Realtime audio FTW!!!
I don't want any of this fake MGS music. kojima is a fraud.
that is the XXXX next-gen trick Kojima was so hyped abbout: there is no visuals. the whole game plays with audio only (unless you ruin the experience using the illegal crack mentioned above).
Kojima wanted players to feel like a bat- for some psycho reason comming from his sick childhood. the man has a restraining order against himself!
here is an E3 spoiler: some of the games shipped will not include a game, just an empty box full priced. the reason for this is Kojima wants to expand his mental games with the players. remember; shake the box violently before opening it. that, or sell it at eBay.
Sephiroth_VII
05-06-2006, 10:00 PM
And oh, by the way, MGS5 won't have audio OR video!! It'll just be a black screen. There's a catch though; once every 60 frames, a picture of Kojima-san, dressed as an emperor, will appear on screen. This is to brainwash the MGS fans, so that they'll vote for Kojima-sama's election for emperor of the world!!!!!

'Metal Gear' Mastermind Imagines Games That Use Smell, Touch
Over his decades-long career, Hideo Kojima has enjoyed keeping up with 'never-ending story' of games.
'Metal Gear' Mastermind Imagines Games That Use Smell, Touch
05.05.2006 - MTV
TOKYO — If you ever wanted to know what goes on inside Hideo Kojima's head, you need only go to his apartment.
The renowned game designer of the nearly two-decades-old "Metal Gear" series keeps a Spartan crash pad just down the street from the design studio where Kojima Productions is developing the PlayStation 3 installment of the adventures of Solid Snake. Against the wall, he keeps two dark, framed images, each featuring several MRI snapshots of his brain.
"I have always had a fascination about what's inside a human being," he said through a translator, as he settled into one of his dining room chairs. "I thought it would be quite nice for people to see this. And I thought it was really cool."
The MRI pictures were taken two years ago, because of a "little spine and neck problem" — an experience that no doubt influenced "Metal Gear," just as, Kojima says, everything in his 42 years of life has.
Kojima spoke to MTV News at a particularly busy time in his life, just two weeks before E3, the annual video game show in Los Angeles, where "Metal Gear Solid 4" is expected to be one of the hottest titles shown for PlayStation 3. He wouldn't say much about the game, offering only that "it's based on a new war, something that's totally different from the past. A lot of things that we never have done are in the game."
The apartment may not be Kojima's full-time home, but it's still unmistakably his. The few decorative objects include album covers from Joy Division, a few posters, a shelf full of awards won for the "Meal Gear" series, a one-of-a-kind foot-tall statue of an actual "Metal Gear" walking tank, and display boxes of his solar-powered game series, "Boktai." According to the machine on his desk, he's a Mac guy. And he has only a PS2 laid out on the floor to play. His Xbox? It's back in the office.
(Go inside Hideo Kojima's apartment with these exclusive MTV News photos.)
Settling in for a quick conversation, he talked about his life before video games. "One of my first dreams when I was a child was becoming a painter," he said. He also had tried writing novels — mysteries, sci-fi and adventure stories. "It wasn't really like something you see in 'Metal Gear Solid,' " he said. "It wasn't like a cartoon or anime. It was more kind of straightforward." He was never able to get them published.
He'd also dreamed of becoming a movie director, something that will come as no surprise to those who've marveled at the lengthy, stylish movie scenes that permeate his games. But ultimately he found his way to games publisher Konami and the eight-bit era of mid-'80s video games. "There wasn't any rule of what was a pure game at that time," he said. "Anything that we wanted to do and put passion into turned out to be a game." In 1987, Kojima's "anything" — the first "Metal Gear" — became a hit for the MSX console in Japan and the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Kojima clearly relishes the old days, and the challenges they presented fuel him even now. "We had to pick out what we really wanted to make in a game, because there were so many limitations," he said. The early consoles, for example, only gave designers a palette of 16 colors. "How can we give users a feeling of walking [by a] beautiful sunset with 16 colors? That was what we were trying to aim for as designers at that time."
Graphics have improved vastly, and so has the "Metal Gear" series, with "Metal Gear Solid" for the first PlayStation in 1998, "MGS2" for PS2 in 2001, and the first PS3 trailer for the next installment, which dropped jaws in September. But Kojima is still chasing that sunset. "A couple of years from now, maybe games will have an implementation of scent or touch or feeling. And then I'll want to probably implement that in to meet my final goal. So I think this will be a never-ending story. And, well, I think that's OK, because that's what creation is all about."
Sensory Overload
Watch 'Metal Gear' mastermind Hideo Kojima as he envisions games that use smell and touch.
Kojima fans may also be familiar with his blog, at www.hideoblog.com, where he writes things like the following: "I always observe the people who pass by when I ride an escalator. I'll never see most of them again, so I imagine a lot of things about their lives ... about the day ahead of them. ... I emotionally react to my imagined stories, laughing or crying." (It's also the place where he wrote about the second Franz Ferdinand album: "It's so perfect that it almost disappoints me.")
Players of "Metal Gear" and another prominent series overseen by Kojima, the sci-fi war series "Zone of the Enders," have read and heard enough lines of dialogue in those games to know that Kojima is very interested in the politics of war, honor and mass destruction. The sensibility that informs his blog and emerges in the florid philosophizing expressed by the characters in his games make Kojima the closest his field has to a warrior/poet. His are games about soldiers who ponder big thoughts on the battlefield. And in Tokyo, Kojima thinks deeply about the way games might connect to those who play them.
Consider the response he gave when asked why he features a lot of political thought in his games: "I think there are two types of games," he said. "One game is a tool that you play to have fun. An example is like a bat or a glove — it's a tool to play baseball and have fun. It's a sport. The other is that it could be a novel or movie type, meaning that there is a message or there is an eye-opener to the people who actually see it or read it."
He said he feels he makes games of the second type, but that even those involve a bit of playing catch. "The user is playing catch with Snake. And sometimes, when you throw a ball to Snake, Snake will give you back the message — don't do this in life, or think twice, or maybe try to live in this way. And that's the kind of game I'd like to create, or I have been creating."
With one "MGS4" trailer already out and featuring a gray-haired Solid Snake along with tanks rumbling down a wrecked street, it's clear that Kojima has new ideas to express about the latter stages of war and life, but in his Tokyo apartment, Kojima wasn't ready to divulge more. That will come, at the latest, on Tuesday when Konami will showcase the game during a press conference in Los Angeles.
And does he hope gamers appreciate his efforts? "I don't really want to be a celebrity," he said. "I want the users or the people to watch what I do and touch or see or feel my work and then hear what I want to say." Never mind the limelight. He wants gamers to see inside his head.

Three minute trailer audio rip has been posted in HIDEOCHAN
Hideo Kojima's blog has been recently updated with this new MP3.
Here are the translations to the dialogues in the audio rip:
Snake: "War has changed. Nations are no longer about ideals; the profits are no longer for the people, mercenaries for the highest bidder, construction of unmanned weapons, and an endless cycle of proxy wars. The wars that claim lives have changed into a business with no rational for pain. War has changed. ID registrated soldiers, possessing ID registrated arms, using ID registrated weapons. Nanomachines within their bodies manage ability growth, as well as promotions. Genome control, information control, emotional control, battlefield control. Everything is managed and regulated. War has changed. The times have shifted from deterrence to control, and with that the catastrophe of Weapons of Mass Destruction has been evaded. With the control of the battlefield possible, so then is the control of history. War has changed. With the controlled management of battlefields, war has become an omnipresent thing."
Campbell : This improves the military results even further. As a result the so called Big Boss's ideal land will be restored.
Liquid: "Free yourself from the bonds of fate. Brother! We are free!"
Snake: "Were the armament of the PMCs overlooked?"
Meryl: "A perfect control management system has been introduced into the PMCs and the military."
Naomi: "Soldiers with nanomachines in their bodies are not allowed to point their guns at their clients."

LaLiLu: after watching the trailer, and taking a look at the logo, do you think it's a coincidence the "L" letters look like the number 7 (seven main characters in the trailer) and that there seem to be two intriguing words in the title, namely META and ID? This has to be Kojima playing with our minds once again.
I wonder whether Vamp will be in the final game or not. However, I somehow think Vamp and Big Boss immortality (just guessing hard here) are connected. Can't wait to find out.

no doubt. Kojima's always about that kind of subtlety. And I don't think snake kills himself either. that's gotta be kojima messing with our heads.

Then I see him pointing the gun into his throat slowly and I put my hands over my head in despair and cried!!! I can't stop thinking about it.
Raiden rocks. He's quite creepy though, but people are going to think very different things about him from now on (gotta love his manly Japanese voice). Liquid Ocelot looked killer and very intriguing.

In all the trailers they seem to be just showing us how weak Snake is during this particular time, he's running from all the Metal Gears and hasn't fought one yet while Raiden was kicking their butts with ease.
Absoloutly stunned by the facial animations, Raiden looks extreme and Ocelot was sweet. Snake killing himself... very sad, I really dont think it was a trick, it's probably the mid-point in the game. Yet Kojima did say Snake wouldn't die in this game.... sweetness either way.

The whole trailer i was like ZOMG! The way they started off with the story telling it sucked me in, in traditional mgs fashion. Then what happens farie boy Raiden shows up only this time he's no farie he's a bad ass ninja (stealth ninja esq) and is kicking ass like crazy, and thats not the biggest shocker. OMFG SNAKE FREAKIN KILLS HIMSELF!!!!! *jaw on floor* So much for bringing in that medicine he was taking as a game mechanic. All in all the trailer was amazing. Truly shows the ps3's prowess. I cant wait to spend countless hours of quality time with mgs4.

I was waiting for Kojima to show the cool raiden. But that's not cool in my eyes. He looks whack! And don't even mention them heels he's wearing. No amount of persuasion can convince me to accept heels on a male character. Unless ofcourse, you prove me Raiden is a chick with flast chest. In which case, Ugh!
I liked the MGS2 Raiden much much better than this new futuristic version!
BTW, I was almost at the edge of my seat when Snake pulled that gun into his mouth. Shit, that was frikkin intense!

The leg design kind of actually reminds me of the asassin character in the original Appleseed movie. The feet have "high heels", likely for posturing purposes, to boost running speed. Keeps him on the balls of his feet.

The ending isn't cut, as in it's not there, the last 10 or so seconds are not on the big screen but focused on a bunch of smaller screens, you just can't read the text displayed in the last 10 seconds.

The video is at 1280x720 resolution in HD....Oh, sorry. Somehow I thought it was something like 640x360 since the quality is not that sharp, but it's just the fault of bad encoding by gamespot.
The ending isn't cut, as in it's not there, the last 10 or so seconds are not on the big screen but focused on a bunch of smaller screens, you just can't read the text displayed in the last 10 seconds.Since I can't read the text, there's no use to me since I can't understand Japanese. That's why I prefer gametrailer's footage since it looks closer to direct feed.
All right, I watched the trailer a while ago. This is no doubt the best looking game at E3 I've seen so far. The destructible environments are amazing, and don't tell me "it's just a cutscene". The organic parts of Metal Gear Gekkous are incredibly impressive and unmatched naturally looking. And now we know what Raiden's "heels" are for! And the slowdowns weren't that bad, I'm sure they will be solved to a good extent for the final game.
Best of all: I always expected Snake's suit to be able to perform mimicry!!! It'll probably need to be recharged from time to time (remember the power line plugs), so there's a good hint to a part of the gameplay.
Worst of all (nothing to do with the tech side, nothing disappointing in terms of gaming):
Snake has 6 months left to live :cry2: But this way, the series will properly wrap up
By the way, take a look at MGS: Portable Ops for PSP! Trailer is here (mms://delivery10.i-revo.jp/event/2006E3/MGS4/mpo_e3_2006_eng.wmv).

Does anyone else get the feeling that MGS4 is repeating history...? Naked Snake killing The Boss, Solid Snake killing Big Boss, ???? killing Old Snake. I got this feeling when Meryl, said "we are the NEW FOXHOUND".
I also got the feeling Solid Snake(MGS2) had a falling out with the Goverment and was now working for himself(and with Otacon). Was just a building up of Solid Snake's own FoxHound organization.
BTW, Raiden's real name is Jack(Big Boss's supposed real name) and I feel might be after Old Snake in MGS4...Maybe?

Does anyone else get the feeling that MGS4 is repeating history...? Naked Snake killing The Boss, Solid Snake killing Big Boss, ???? killing Old Snake. I got this feeling when Meryl, said "we are the NEW FOXHOUND".It's not a coincidence. Every main character in every MG and MGS game faces a person who is very close to him at the end of each game. Solid Snake faces Big Boss (genetic father) in MG1 and MG2. SS faces Liquid Snake (genetic brother) in MGS1. Raiden faces Solidus (his spiritual father or stepfather) in MGS2. BB faces The Boss (somewhere between a mother and a lover) in MGS3. And judging by the trailer, he'll probably have to face Liquid Ocelot (brother embodied as the son of genetic father's mother/lover [?!]) and maybe Big Boss too (he appeared in a MGS4 promo poster at E3 2005).
However, I have no idea who could be BB facing at the end of MGS: PO for PSP. I believe it will have single player gaming (since it'll explain the missing link in the MG series storyline) as well as feature cooperative online gameplay, so I wonder. Maybe it won't be totally MGS canon, but well.
I also got the feeling Solid Snake(MGS2) had a falling out with the Goverment and was now working for himself(and with Otacon). Was just a building up of Solid Snake's own FoxHound organization.Nothing to do with that. Snake and Otacon funded Philantropy. We'll see what happens with that partnership after the events of MGS2.
BTW, Raiden's real name is Jack(Big Boss's supposed real name) and I feel might be after Old Snake in MGS4...Maybe?The fact that Raiden is so different this time makes me think that he and Snake will not face each other. I also doubt now that there'll be a Metal Gear Raiden after MGS4. It'd have to be something very different to what we're used to.

maltroph, kojima is staunchly opposed to cross-platform titles, as it doesn't allow you to take full advantage of any one console (he's not that happy with the xbox port of mgs2, and the remake of mgs1 on gamecube). He has that luxury cause his games are so successful. If you're getting a 360, or have one, he's likely gonna make a different game for that. and for Wii. But sorry, no mgs4 other than ps3. but, hey, look forward to new sweet games from kojimapro.

I'd like to know what other Metalgear's' he's been playing besides the single and the only official MGS2 port that Xbox received. Do enlighten us with your friends Metalgear's' titles please. Can't wait to hear what other MGS' than official MGS2 he's been playing on his xbox. ROFL!
And tell your friend to keep dreaming about MGS4. Or tell him you heard Halo3 is coming to PS3 and watch him cringe. Yea, exactly! Kojima and MGS4 are THAT close to PS3, just like Bungie/Halo3 are to 360.
Wait a minute. Halo 3 is not coming to the PS3? Nooooooo!!! Wait, what's Halo 3 again?

I dunno if this was mentioned before but I was shocked as many others were when we were led to believe that Snake kills himself with the gun in his mouth near the end of the trailer.
These bolded excerpts I took from 1up.com's preview seem to say that Snake probably didn't die. I personally wasn't aware that Kojima puts in false endings in trailers (I didn't follow games on the net until 2 yrs ago), so this was some great news to me, I don't want Snake to die, especially not by killing himself.
If Snake does die I hope he dies in the most spectacular way, right after bringing down the controlling entity known as The Patriots.
Anyways I hope this interests some of you, here is the link to the 1up.com preview.

Of course the most spectacular return belongs to the much-maligned Raiden (end foreshadowing), who much to the chagrin of Metal Gear fans everywhere, dominated the majority of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. But as Kojima promised, "By the time you finish Metal Gear Solid 4, you will love Raiden," and we can see why. In most Kojima trailers, he plants a lot of false endings, and then keeps the cutscenes rollings, one after another. Well, the only "false" ending this time was when Snake puts a gun in his mouth, and the screen goes red at the sound of a gunshot, which then segues to a credits screen, and then to the most action-packed false ending ever. Surrounded by what seems like a half-dozen of MGS4's menacing bipeds, a "mysterious" figure, who moves remarkably like the Ninja from the original Metal Gear Solid, takes the battle to them, leaping skywards before landing with authority on the control pod of the first biped. One deep sword thrust later and the biped goes staggering to the ground, a fountain of blood spraying from the top.
Beyond the Raiden revelation, the much-discussed ending, where Solid Snake places a gun in his mouth and declares that he must rid the world of his MEME genes before the screen goes red, seems like a certain suicide note to the gaming public. But since this is Kojima, we'd venture a guess that nothing is quite as it seems. If we were to take a stab in the dark, it's possible that Snake is killing off the rotting, seemingly-cancer ridden version of himself (one side of his face is scarred by dark, cancer-like markings), with Otacon "helping" him by replicating him and uploading his memory banks in the reborn Snake.

Of course. Remember, Liquid is his brother. That guy crashed in a Helicopter, fell of a Metal Gear, was almost destroyed by Solid with a machine gun. And he STILL survived by having his arm attached to Ocelot's body!!!

In one of Kojima's interviews, he says that he and Solid Snake are a same age of 43 years old. ONLY 43?!!! Just like Grey Fox said in Metal Gear Solid to Snake "You look old Snake, you haven't aged well".

By the age of 43 (does that mean MGS4's events happen in 2016?) he should definately look older than he is.
Anyway, the whole MG series is fictional. Let's not be so picky about some details.

that last little bit is pretty far fetched. I don't think kojima is gonna take it that far. I will say that gun-in-mouth part is a trick, but I doubt he even pulls the trigger. I'm willing to bet the dialogue is from another scene entirely at that part. And kojima said snake isn't gonna die.

how do we know that solid snake with a gun in his mouth is actually solid snake? remember the PS2 rendered teaser that came out a while ago, where snake sits down and takes off that mask, revealing raiden?......just some food for thought....

exactly. Snake will be aging rappidly as the game progresses. he might be racing to finish his last mission before he goes.

We still have to find out about Vamp's apparent immortality and the whereabouts of Big Boss, or his corpse or revived corpse for that matter. The sieres will come to an end, and something huge will have to happen. Everything is possible for MGS4's ending, and I think there's no use trying to guess so early what will happen. I expect it to be, if anything, unconventional, just like the rest of the series.
However, some of you may remember previous posts involving MGS series connections with Norse mythology. Thor (or Snake) dies at the Ragnarok (end of the world), fighting as a hero and sacrificing himself. I guess that could be a very good hint, or a very good way to cheat ourselves and be totally surprised by the ending.
Kojima mentioned it somewhere. Snake will be gradually aging. maybe someone else could varify that?

Slightly off point I suppose but here goes...can anyone tell me if Snake and other AI will move with the fluidity and realism that is shown in the trailers ?...what impressed me most about 'EIGHT DAYS' is the awesome transitional animations that onscreen characters had, moving from behind a car to jumping across a bonnet in one smooth phase.
Often we are used to ( i dont know the tech term') a character moving very quickly from one direction to another, almost as if the transition was not animated with enough frames..perhaps this is 'uncanny valley' ,though i am not sure.
While Snake in the trailer looked over cover realistically depending on the terrain can we expect such options when we play as snake or as I suspect get a standard set of 10-12 'moves'.
Likewise for AI, when in vid they jump off the truck in a realistic albeit prerendered manner, in-game they will probably move with much less fluidity.
Perhaps I am being pessimistic, but such issues are what I always look out for in trailers, whether the devs are duping us to believe that we will be able to move on screen just like is shown.
I have to say that this game looks to have the most emotioal and involving cut-scenes ever shown in a game. I don't even think FF could touch that. so much was going throw me just from the small clip.
I really didn't think the trailer would be this good. I thought it would be like the last one only with more firing and maybe a boss or two showing their design. but this? this is on a whole different level!

300% sure with this quote below straight out of Hideo Kojima's mouth.
“The way I look at the Metal Gear Solid series is that it’s made for the PlayStation platform, and through the years, people have expressed how much they love the series on the PlayStation platform, so if I was going to do a game on Wii or on Xbox 360, I would do a completely different game, not Metal Gear Solid.”

E3 2006: Metal Gear Solid 4 Goes Online
Plus, commentary from Hideo Kojima.
by Anoop Gantayat
May 12, 2006 - The Metal Gear Solid series is featured in the latest issue of Famitsu, with producer Hideo Kojima discussing Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (PSP), Metal Gear Solid Bande Dessinee (PSP) and, of course, Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS2).
Kojima's juiciest comments concerned MGS4. "Until now," said Kojima, "we've released two entries of the MSX2 Metal Gear series, and three entries in the Metal Gear Solid series. Add to this Portable Ops, and you get a total of six titles. All mysteries will be cleared up in Metal Gear Solid 4."
Kojima was very clear about the finality of MGS4. Everything will be cleared up in MGS4 -- and Snake may even suffer the very fate that's hinted at in the new E3 trailer. Said Kojima, "We'll clear up all mysteries in 4 and, in the end, after this, will Snake die!?".
And, just to make sure we're clear on the matter, when asked if the story will come to a true end, Kojima responded without the slightest bit of vagueness, "It will come to an end."
Snake is an old timer in Metal Gear Solid 4. We're not sure if this was just a convenience that was stumbled upon by someone at Kojima Productions recently, but Kojima pointed out to the magazine that if you remove the I and S from "SOLID," you get "IS." Once "IS," a word for existence (Kojima's explanation is directed at Japanese readers who may not know what "Is" means), has been removed from "SOLID," you're left with "OLD." Or, according to Kojima, a Snake that doesn't exist is an old Snake.
We'll let you digest that for just a bit.
The MGS4 E3 trailer showed a number of characters that have had their moment in Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid history so far. "Nearly all the characters from the Metal Gear Solid series will make an appearance," Kojima confirmed with the magazine.
In addition to a return of classic Metal Gear Solid characters, we can also expect a return of gameplay systems from part 3. The camouflage system from part 3 will make it into 4. In addition, the game will include "Octacamo." This name appears to be formed from the words "octopus" and "camouflage." An octopus can change its color to match its surroundings, Kojima explained. "With the PlayStation 3, we can replicate this change, so we decided to include it."
As an example of the new Octacamo mechanics, Kojima suggested that if Snake is standing next to a wall worn out with holes, he too will appear to have holes.
Kojima also revealed to the magazine that MGS4 will have Online play. "The Online in subsistence was just the preparation for 4," Kojima revealed, without going into specifics on what we can expect.
Finally, Kojima made some comments on the game's visuals. MGS4 is widely regarded as the finest representation of console graphics at E3, but Kojima states, "It will get even better."
Start counting the days until the Tokyo Game Show, where we expect to get our next look at MGS4.

I read that before but I didn't post it since there weren't many news in there. However, this one is more interesting:
Kojima talks MGS 4, Wii and girls' panties
Friday 12-May-2006 8:56 PM "I'd like to run away from MGS 4 creation", says Kojima as we catch up with him at E3
Hideo Kojima has a big challenge ahead of him. Currently working on the most anticipated PlayStation3 game in the world, the design genius is in Los Angeles to tell the world about Metal Gear Solid 4. We caught up with him to chat about his plans for MGS 4, his love of Wii and what he's getting excited about right now.
CVG: So, the big PS3 E3 surprise is the motion sensitive functions of DualShock 3. Do you plan to use this function in MGS 4?
Kojima: It was a big surprise to me when I found out at E3. I'd like to go back and discuss the functions with my team of game designers and see how we can incorporate ideas into the game. As an example, the tilt functions could be used to control the FPS camera and you could shake the pad to get items from dead enemies. I have many ideas to talk to my team about.
CVG: How do you find PS3 as a development platform?
Kojima: PS3 is a big, powerful machine and it's high definition - it takes much more work than the previous consoles I have worked on.
CVG: Can you tell us about the weapons in MGS 4?
Kojima: I can't really talk about key details but some are based on real weapons and we're taking that a little further with our own ideas and expectations of what real future weapons will appear in the MGS 4 development timeframe. We take military concept ideas too, so they're not really fake.
CVG: What are your impressions of Nintendo Wii and how did Snake appear in Smash Brothers?
Kojima: I've played Tennis, Zelda and Mario on Wii. I find Tennis very interesting. I played the early version but the E3 version is far more advanced. As a game designer, I'm very interested in creating something for the Wii. I'd like to run away from MGS 4 creation and create something for the Wii but unfortunately, I don't have anything that I can announce at the moment. I have lots of ideas for Wii but I have a heavy schedule with MGS 4 and Metal Gear Online. Concerning Snake's appearance on Wii in Smash Brothers, I'm friends with the designer of the game and I thought it would be nice if you could play as Snake - when I heard about the new game last year, I contacted the designer and we started working together.
CVG: In MGS 4 we see the return of Raiden, Liquid Snake and Ocelot. Can you tell us about the plot which combines all these familiar characters?
Kojima: In MGS 4, the only character you will be able to play as will be Snake. In the story, I'd like to include all the characters from the whole series if the story allows it. I would like to have a big wrap up in MGS 4 which explains why the characters acted in the way they did in previous games, so everything can be finally revaled in MGS 4.
CVG: How about E3 2006 - Seen anything exciting?
Kojima: I haven't had a lot of time to walk around the convention centre yet. My feelings are that the show has a little less energy than last year, even though I was really looking forward to the show so I could see Wii and PS3 games and Xbox 360 games a year on. I'd like to go and play Gears of War. Also, I hear there's a GTA style game at the show where you try to steal panties (laughs). It's a very interesting idea and I'd like to check it out this afternoon. I understand they're giving away free panties...
CVG: Killzone on PS3 is a competitor to MGS 4 - are you surprised that Sony has chosen not to show a new Killzone trailer or even a playable version at E3 2006?
Kojima: Actually, I don't care about it. I don't really look at it - as a games designer, I have interests in games that I personally like and admire such as Okami from Capcom.
CVG: When will MGS 4 be playable?
Kojima: Well, since MGS 4 is due to be released in 2007, it think will be playable at next E3 at the latest. The current state of play is that we're changing the gameplay every day. We don't want to serve something to people that isn't built or set in stone because my team wouldn't be satisfied.
CVG: Can you tell me a bit more about the online features in MGS 4 and Metal Gear Online?
Kojima: Of course, MGS 3 has online battle functions and downloads and these will feature in MGS 4. Basically the MGO project is moving by itself and it might be packaged with MGS 4 as a second disc or there's still a possibility of selling it as a stand alone game. Therefore, the MGO project will be the centre of online activity - of course, if it comes with MGS 4 it will be for PS3 but if not, it could be for something else but we haven't decided. On the stand alone side, everything you see in the current online version of MGS 3 will be available in MGS 4.
CVG: Can you see people using the Wii controller to play as Snake at some point in the future?
Kojima: I haven't thought about Snake with the Wii controller - I think about completely different things. If I created something for Wii, I would like to create something entirely different to a normal FPS. I don't mind using the MGS world as a theme but currently I'm not thinking about that. I'd like to give Wii users a new experience - I think the Wii controller can be used in more innovative and fun ways.
CVG: The future war setting of MGS 4 is quite bleak, especially as we see Snake with a gun in his mouth in the trailer. Are there any rays of light which could see romance or something similar lift the story?
Kojima: Yes! It won't all be dreadful! There probably won't be any romance in MGS 4, however, as Snake will not fall in love. There are many characters that appear in the game and it's the drama that occurs between the people that leads the story. So, in that sense, it's not just Snake that has a chance of a positive story line.Link: CVG (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=140020)

Creating something this huge might put a lot of pressure on him and as the series go on and story develops, he gets limited to what he can do and has to be careful to not break any laws of the narrative. Maybe that's why. I hope when MGS4 is over, it's not the end of MGS series but just Snake. I'm guessing we will play as the NEW FOXHOUND? Anyway, haha, I'm getting a bit ahead of time here.

I think the MGS universe will live on, there's no way Konami is going to let the money making universe go anywhere in the near future. Square is pimping the hell out of the FF universe and I expect no less from Konami. Unfortunately I think this will be the last we see of Snake, but I think this game is setting the stage for Raiden... Trust me the MGS universe will go on in some capacity let's just hope is does Snake justice... Peace

If you know Konami style, they never wanted to make realist graphics.
they always keep a kind of " mangaism " graphics. And they don t use the power of the PS3 only to polish the graphics but they tend to make everything smooth and equals , Kojima said, that he will use the power of the PS3 to make lots of details like the tongue we' ve seen so far, the dust effect , motion blur, depth of field.
As MGS is more an interactive gameplayable movie than an classic game.
He said in a recent interview that the buildings we' ve seen in the E3 2006 trailer will be totally destructible , the camo is like an octopus , when we touch an object it will take its colors and forms.
And full Online multiplayer game, MGS3 subsistence was only a prototype for mGS4 online.

Cow noises, horse clapping and cicada singing that the Metal Gear Gekkous produce are totally intentional. It has to do with psychological warfare (relaxing noises). Kojima said this a long time ago, when the teaser was shown.

I think it's clear that Meryl is being manipulated by The Patriots. She has no idea what La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo is (which is where I'm guessing Snake lets her know that she's working for those guys), then says she's the new FOXHOUND. It's just like Raiden thought he was FOXHOUND during the Big Shell incident, and he was being told that by The Patriots. Also, it's a well-known fact that Meryl has always wanted to be a part of FOXHOUND and I have little doubt that she'd jump on any opportunity to be there.
I'm not sure if you guys discussed the grave at all (I'm far too lazy to go back and read at the moment), but my guess is that it's Frank Jaeger's grave personally. I haven't read any talk about it so I just kinda guessed that, but it may also be The Boss (which would explain the flowers similar to her place of death growing all aroun there too). Jaeger was Snake's best friend and taught him probably his greatest life's lesson -- fighting for what you believe in. I coulda swore I saw some writing on the grave during the trailer (which I saw every chance I got :-p), but I need to get it in HD to look at it myself to be sure...
btw, Snake putting the gun in his mouth was the most intense moment I've ever seen in any trailer. Just thought I'd mention that I was ridiculously tense the first time I saw that
also, has anybody posted hi-res screens yet? I got a press disc from Konami that I'd be glad to share with Psinext if they didn't snag one, and it's got all the screenshots Gamespot & those guys have but they're 2048 x 1152 (huge) and glorious.

The Gekkous are really scary. They can do amazing things with their legs, they are definately very intelligent (we'll see in game though), and on top of that they have fire weapons as well as that organic arm similar to that of MG MkII. I expected that because it was revealed in artworks. They also seem to have X-ray vision.

The place where The Boss is looks different, it looks like a more massive graveyard. I'd bet that it has to be Jaeger's (Gray Fox) grave.

By the way: is the Solid Eye gone for good? :(
Also, now that someone mentions Jaeger:
Raiden will die. Not only I've read that Kojima said Raiden will have the duty to protect Snake and even give his life if necessary, but every character with Ninja abilities has been killed so far. Gray Fox, Olga and now Raiden.
This is, of course, my own interpretation :-p

the meryl theory is actually quite sound! I wonder though since she spent 2 years underground with snake, would she be that naive? It's possible she's a good guy, and she's referring to her, and the other 6 as the new foxhound in a metaphorical sense. But that's a really good theory you go there, so I'd possibly accept that idea until further notice. We don't really know what motives she has, we only know what naomi, otacon, raiden (to an extent) and campbell are doing. It just occurred to me why foxhound is named foxhound. In Metal gear solid portable ops, big boss has to take down the members of the fox unit that defected or something like that. So his group is foxhound! Oh snap!
Man the solid eye better be in there.

I agree about The Boss's grave area looking different -- I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be Arlington cemetery in Virginia but I never went there when I lived in VA so I don't have a clue what it looks like aside from graves lined up.
I'll put the pics in this post as soon as they finish uploading :-)

Could anyone please direct me to the HIGHEST resolution and detailed video of MGS4 that is available?
For some reason the versions I have seen so far are just too fuzzy for the great things you are saying about it. I personally think the resolutions that I have downloaded are just tooo low.
Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Fellas, check out this low res fan movie remake of the MGS4 trailer.

I think the trailer was well done, I wish we had HD footage to work with...

In MILR's defense I would like to see a HD version of the trailer to really compare it to the quality of the previously released footage. The current trailer is still amazing low res and all, the fight seen with Raiden was worth the price of admission. Peace
PS: Never doubt team Kojima, that would be a mistake my friends...

To be honest I have fantastic eyesight in one eye and weak eyesight in the other which causes eye fatigue. But at the same time the last time my eyes were checked I had nearly 20-20 vision.
Nameless, I am glad that someone else would like to see the HD version. I honestly want to see just how good it looks, but can't find a HD version not matter how hard I look!

Of course we all want MGS4 in HD because i can just tell that the trailer looks even better than what we can see from the footage released so far. And parts of the released video is just too dark and cloudy...obviously because of the video quality and not the art style.
Oh yea...and let me ask. To those who where saying, "theres no way Raiden could be a badass". Have you had a change of heart yet? lol

My problem with 90% of the clips released so far is that they are not full resolution and most of them are a video of the game being played on a display. I think that makes us lose most of the fine details.
I am looking VERY hard for the fine details, and I think they are there but just cannot see them.
Please don't think I am some anti-Sony monster that hates the PS3 for the sake of having an enemy. I don't hate Sony by any means and hope these games are supurb and the characters are super-realistic. But I just don't see it yet! We need the HD clips!
Without trying to get anyone angry at me I saw Fight Night with my own eyes on a beautiful display at Walmart. I remember the very fine details. In 90% of the clips I have download in the past week I don't see hardly any fine details due to the clips being clips of clips of vids if you know what I mean.
We need a direct high quality full resolution high definition vid of MGS, WARDEVIL, HEAVENLY SWORD, and others in my opinion.

but MILR does seeing a HD of MGS4 clip actually make it GAMEPLAY footage in your 20/20 eyes, id say it would be because they always use the same res in cut scenes as they do in GAMEPLAY :) will you then consider this NEXTGEN??

Dude why don't you just watch some full-lengh CGI movies? (MILR)
The impression you are giving doesn't care anything about gameplay and the game has to look un-achievably amazing in order for you to even consider playing it.
You are seriously doing a good job of bringing down the mighty MGS4 by even considering it a "bad" graphic...Hell, by even considering the graphics (they are great though) Play seven minutes of any MGS and tell us it's not an Awesome game.

In low resolution the graphics in MGS4 are absolutely horrible and I think the folks who created the game did a great disservice by not having high definition versions of it available for download.
480P looks so, so, so good compared to the crumby garbage I had been looking at all week.
I will admit, that MGS4 does indeed look next-gen when viewed in HIGH DEFINITION. Otherwise, it looks like vomit.
However, I now realize that unless the same is true for other games as well that there are a lot of games with a lot of work needed. But if MGS4 can do it then they can do the same thing if they even care about giving us a decent product!
BTW, does ANYONE have a HIGHER resolution link to the 15 minute E3 2006 demo of MGS? Anyone have the 720P version or higher?

LE I like your Meryl assessment but Snake visiting The Boss is just out of the question... he has NO relation to her. Her grave site also looks nothing like in that trailer. It has to be either Jaeger or Olga.

So you think little old me ought to be banned? Well, it's not happening!
By the way, due to my kind nature I thought I would share this link. I thought at first it was a link to the 15 minute 2006 E3 trailer, but it is actually the TGS trailer for MGS4, but in 720P.
It makes anything else I have ever seen look like garbage, trash, and filth. This game is stunningly beautiful compared to anything else I have ever set my eyes upon.

MILR...you never cease to amaze me. You make it seem like the graphics look horrible in the E3 trailer. The video isn't the best quality but you can get a sense of the quality of the visuals from it. Garbage, trash and filth? Is the difference in the TGS trailer that much better?
And will you stop complaining sooo much now that your satisfied with this game? Because its not doing anybody any good.

MILR, the point of HD graphics is to convey more details at the higher resolutions. The TGS HD trailer should look significantly better than the low res E3 trailer Captain Obvious... Just be patient and wait for the HD version of the E3 trailer before making additional comments regarding the visuals.
The MGS thread is primarly a discussion regarding the MGS series story, not the visuals of a trailer, just wanted to fill you in... Peace

Oh man, the MILR troll just infected one of my favourite threads. Consider yourself in my ignored list and consider myself contributing to your permanent ban, which so many of us are looking forward to make effective ASAP.
Please everyone, ignore him actively or passively. These forums are becoming "see what an obsessed lowlife individual thinks even though nobody cares" instead of "let's discuss actually interesting topics for everyone".
P.S. I apologize for the rough tone, MILR has gone too far and I don't see the mods taking care of it anyhow.

OMG, the stupidity of MILR has infiltrated in the sacred thread of MGS4 as well. God awful persistency! I see VG has already voiced a similar protest as well. I'm also going to request a ban on MILR if he goes on another 'I'm not satisfied with (insert title here) next-gen game' bullshit.
Anyways, to get the topic back onto its tracks which is MGS4, enjoy some scans from Japan.

hd or not the game looks undoubtedly better than the previous gen mgs...details such as pores and wrinkles, previously seen in cg movies only, are basically impossible to replicate with a mere ps2..
the lighting is way beyond previous gen flat stuff...the self shadowing...the dof....i think they will also add motion blur..just like in mgs2 cutscenes...
i m seeing the same thing when people critcize motorstorm....those people should look at how atv vs mx unleashed looks like on the ps2...they would suddenly realize the leap in gfx and be impressed...just like me....
Yoshaw, you da man!. hell, you're a whole forum on your own :)
