View Full Version : My band wants to change thier name.
And I kinda dont blame them. For those of you who dont know, Revolt is our band name. Weve had it for 4 years now and we feel that since we have gotten much better its time to change the name that fits our music better. Were going through every word in the damn dictionary to get the perfect name. But I also wanted to see what you guys come up with. In other words I want you guys to help. Now I know for a fact that most of you arent going to be serious about it because of the kind of music we play (metal/thrash metal/hardcore/death metal). Were looking for something with preferably with 3 syllables.... because its easier to chant :P. Anyway, I want to see what you guys come up with. Person who gives the best name will be our roadie! Let the games begin!

Revolt of God.
Yes. I considered your favorite band. :)
You need a TAD bit of your roots in your band's name.
String together some names, and voila, its a new name, yet classic.
But make it so that its "transitional" going from your old name to your new name, example:
If I choose a new name for your band: Salvation of Revolting
Ride this name out for a while, then:
I would have to use the word "salvation" in the new name, this way, your "cult" followers, know who you are.

Revolt is a rubbish name (with all due respect), especially for a metal band of any sort.
I think you should get a name that has aesthetical value rather than acoustic value; something that looks good when written but that people have no idea how to pronounce. But that’s only because I like the idea of the cult legend that no one’s ever seen over the live performer.
On a more appropriate note I wouldn’t use real words for a band name (or at least, not English words). Get a piece of paper and mess around with letters; try to find a name that sounds like the music you play, or has the same feel to it.
At least, this is what I think.

When you change a name, you need to leave your old name behind your new name. Otherwise your followers won't "follow."
If you fucking don't know what I'm talking about, then don't post. Geez.
Look at me, for 5 years, I've used Nintendo X across many forums, yet I've used "Carlos X" at some of them, this is what I'm talking about with the "transitional" flow. Simple, yet effective.

Well, they DO want to change their name, but you NEED a fanbase for your band. If you restart your band's name, you have to start ALL over again.
Reinventing a business, a persona, a forum, a band, doesn't happen overnight.

You know you love it.
Meshing two words together in a funny spelling usually does well for deathmetal bands (no offence, it's a serious observation). Try things like: HindSite, SavajAsalt, AdderSpine (if you know what it's a refrence to, give yourself a cookie), etc.
Try it for yourself, I'm not that good at it.

If you restart your band's name, you have to start ALL over again.
Not true.
A well known one man music act Manitoba had gained a strong fanbase under that name, then was recently involved in legal action which resulted in him changing the name to 'Caribou'.
He still has his fans.
Whenever Dose One or Mike Patton or MF Doom or Madlib works on a new album under a different name, you can be sure that the fans will follow for at least a listen.
Whenever a musician scores the soundtrack to a film, fans of that artist still know about it.
When I changed my forum name from 'Boggy700' to 'Cats' at Random Forum, people still knew it was me.
Well, the people who knew me did.
I think.
(Although my points are growing increasingly irrelevant now.)
But you have a point.
As for names:
Fireball!
Firecube!
Firepyramid!
Firetetrahedron!
(
Hey, did you know that the pyramid is a symbol for fire?
At least, so says my teacher, who is no longer my teacher because he stopped teaching (or maybe that's next week.)
Yeah, he pointed out the whole 'Pyramid', 'Pyro', 'Fire' connection.
I think he might've mentioned something about 'eternal fire', but maybe I'm just imagining that.
So entombment inside a pyramid is an abstract form of cremation, in a way.

I've actually joked about naming a band that with my friends before.
You could always think of who inspires you can try to come up with a name based on that. For instance, big on Sabbath? Maybe something like Paranoid or Snowblind.
On a side note, which current band name do you think is the best? I say Audioslave, it's just an awesome name for a band.

I'm not going to make any comments in regards to Carlos's posts.
I don't really remember who said it up there in the posting, but I agree that it shouldn't be a word in the English dictionary. I don't think it should be gibberish, but it should be some wicked French or Italian or maybe even Hebrew phrase.
Like "Henaynee" (It can be spelled any way you like as long as it's pronounced hee-nay-nee) in Hebrew means "Here I am" or some shit like that. And that's kind of cool. But Henaynee is a terrible band name.

That doesn't matter...if they are actually good, people won't care about a name change. That said...most metal bands names are really kinda lame and uninspired (Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying..., Mastadon). Try to avoid that...

Then you obviously dont like metal seeing most of it is around that basis. Thats what its all about....rebellion...power....you need to look past that and actually listen to the music instead of dismissing it because they have a blasphimous name and lyrics. They have an opinion on thier views of the world just like you have your opinion on the whole idea being shit. And most metal isnt even attacking god. The only band that follows that philosophy is Slayer. If anything other metal bands talk about how we are all going to feel the wrath of god because most of us arent good people and were going to burn in hell because of it. Hence: "Walk With Me In Hell" by Lamb of God. I reccomend you watch this documentary called "Metal: A Headbangers Journey" It was on VH1 not too long ago but its also on DVD, and it covers from everything you just said to why they play the music. I guarantee it will broaden your shallow views on the music and if anything make you a metal fan yourself or moreover give you some enlightenment.
Anyway keep the names coming guys. My band is still working on one as we speak but it never hurts to heave your help. And we arent really looking for a name thats blsphimous. We want something that sounds powerfull and will stay stuck in your head.

Oh, metal isn't about rebellion. It just isn't. Neither is metal about condemning humanity to hell and what not. Those are all punk rock attitudes.
Metal is about... everything. This is where I always have a problem; I've never been able to adequately describe what metal is about. It's about the grand and the epic, even if the subject in question isn't particularly grand or epic. For the most part metallers (or whatever) have a certain affinity for the occult, and so on and so forth.
I watched Metal: A Headbanger's Journey once and I can only recommend anyone to stay far away from it, as it's absolutely full of bullshit. The very fact that they interviewed Slipknot voids anything said in the documentary. That and the guy completely missing the point of metal.
But that aside...
I honestly suggest Dantalion for your bands name; it sounds a bit metalcorey. There's probably already a band called Dantalion, but that's not important.

There is no such dogma to "metal". Metal can be positive, it can be negative. It can be righteous, it can be blasphemous. There is no specific set of rules governing any metal. Take tool for example. Always been considered a metal band, yet their lyrics encompass everything from blasphemy to that which is righteous and holy. They have evolved with the band as the band has evolved spiritually. They aren't forced to stick to a certain topic to still be "metal". That's just a bullshit label applied to bands that insists they must say and act a certain way in order to "fit in" to their genre. It's all shallow bullshit. So, to call Molly shallow for her views on blasphemous metal is just as shallow as what you are accusing her of. And WAY more bands than Slayer have blasphemous lyrics. I won't even begin to name them all off, they are too many in number to even bother.

I suppose you're right but you have to admit a good majority of them do. And thats what I was speaking for. My band itself happens to fall into the Death Metal sub catagory. And I'd be pretty pissed if someone thinks my band is shit just because we talk about blasphemous stuff. So I felt that comment threatened my talent as a drummer, so I think justified my argument for those bands against that kind of mentality. Anyway thats not that damn point I want you guys to think of names XD

Death Metal has this tendency to have great guitarists, great drums, and an overall great sound, until you get to the part where the singer comes in and then it's like "GRAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! RORAR RARRR RAAA RA ROHHH!"

There used to be this guy on my old school bus, and he was fully into the death metal, and he scared the shit out of me and ninety percent of my other friends. He would come to school carnivals with his face painted like a scary clown, black trench coat and everything like that. His art assignment one year was a large wooden box painted black with "Blood" on it, inside there was music playing and beheaded Barbie Dolls and he stuck their heads to the walls with nails he would hide in there and when you walked out he would jump out and grab you, he did that to me and a friend of mine at the art show the school held, except he wouldnt let us go. He was violent, and saw women as sex objects and nothing else and would think nothing of feeling any of us up at any given moment.
He has turned me off death metal music forever, they just scare the shit out of me.
