I especially like when Phil talks about true HD-something that IGN has basically made me think is almost impossible for 360. Add that w/the Lair guy interview about how many 2nd & 3rd gen PS3 games will be in 1080p and I almost convinced to wait and purhcase my new TV. Interesting stuff...Im just waiting to see how all this folds out.

^ I'm considering selling my 50" 1080i HD set and buying a 1080P big screen ASAP. I'm still on the fence and will more than likely at least wait until next year, because I will get a 50" or higher and that will be expensive considering 1080P. If I wait longer the price will drop so no need to piss away cash...

^I am planning to do the same. I am wating for 1080p screen prices to go down dramatically and might get one late 2007/2008.

Well I just read the IGN HDTV Q&A, and Gerry Block said...

In recent news, Sony and Samsung are expected to bring their 8th generation S-LCD manufacturing plant operational months ahead of its original October 2007 start date, and Sharp has already got their first 8th generation pant up and running, and plans to double its size by March of next year. All of these plants will likely be focusing upon 52-inch 1080p LCDs, which will probably end up selling for about $2,000-$2,500 next Christmas. Things just keep getting better and better, the tough part is deciding when to pull the trigger and get one for yourself.

I was gonna buy a HD set right away, now I'm gonna wait. That just sounds too awesome 50" 1080P LCDs for around 2 grand is unreal.

PUNK em 733, thank you so much for posting that. I'm definitely going to try to convince my parents that they need to have a 50 inch 1080p TV then. That is huge, and sharp... holy crap, seriously, that's just insane for around 3K CAD.

09-30-2006, 02:36 AM
^^ Good stuff, I was hoping I could eventually get a 50" + 1080P display under 3K. I will keep a close eye on pricing. (The 46" Bravia is going for $3500 to $4000)

09-30-2006, 02:52 AM
Holy crap, slow down Sony!

Here I am trying to save up to buy their latest Bravia and then they go and announce a better HD-TV which costs as much as Bravia did at launch.

I hope they stop producing/upgrading HD-TV this fast in a year or so.

Last I heard LCD's don't perform games as well as CRT's or plasmas does.

PUNK em 733
09-30-2006, 03:01 AM
Well Frosty said they're the best for gaming. I know they're better than Plasmas, but a good CRT will give them a run for their money. But the news I posted said these new LCDs will be the 8th Gen tech. So who know how good they'll be.

Nameless
09-30-2006, 03:02 AM
^^ Previously LCDs had problems with refresh rates, resulting in a blur effect with fast movement, but this problem has been resolved with new LCD displays. The only problem LCDs still have is properly displaying the color black... The issue has gotten better, but Plasmas do display black better and they have the most colorful displays. Since Plasmas can have image burn and also burn out after a period of time (60K hours) I would still pick LCD. When you buy an LCD all you need to do is replace the bulb if it burns out. If you have no dead pixels an LCD will last several decades if you just continue to replace the bulb.

PUNK em 733
09-30-2006, 03:07 AM
The Pros I listed for LCDs was for the newer displays, not the older ones which were *BLAH*.

Plasmas would be UbeR TyTE, if not for the burn in issue, and they laster longer, although the latter point is much better with the newer plasmas.

Carlos

Then I'll wait out on the 50 inch at this point, and buy a 25-35 incher this fall/winter.

09-30-2006, 03:19 AM
Carlos, you can find a 32" 720P display for about $600 bucks or less if you look around...

PS: I'm using one as a computer monitor now...

Carlos
09-30-2006, 03:23 AM
Nice, quality?

PUNK em 733
09-30-2006, 03:24 AM
That was my plan too, get a 720P 32 or smaller for like 600-800, and wait for next christmas/1st quarter 2008.

^Same here...no Mommy & Daddy buying games for me anymore. Everything is coming outta my pocket-and I've promised myself that untill I can get a 32in. hi-def set for $500-Im waitin for another price drop. Besides-probably won't be able to get a PS3 this year anyway...

Carlos, Here's the display I'm using man:
$698 bucks after rebates, I'm using this as a computer monitor and I have a 50" Hitachi for gaming...
I tried the Niko with my 360 and it looks great, I have a couple of dead pixels and have not returned the unit yet. (it's still under warranty) Even with the 4 dead pixels (not a big problem) I would still recommend the display for the price. (No HDMI only DVI)

One of the best 720P HD flat panel LCD displays under $1000 bucks, bottom line.
(If someone has a better deal speak up now...)

Honestly I only used it with the 360 for a short period of time, because I use my 50" LCD Hitachi for gaming.

At the Sony event, they were showing games at 1080p I think, maybe that's why.

It seems as if Itagaki-isn't as much of a system hopper as we think. He seems to be dedicated to Xbox because of the fans that purchased it simply because of his games like DOA and Ninja Gaiden-and it seems his prodigy will be spear-heading the PS3 iterations of the series....http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?type=wmv&id=13647

Back to the original topic, according to the videos if there ever was one gaming world hypocrite award it would have to be handed to this Itagaki-san :)

Come on, the guy "must" practically again and again announce he's only supporting Xbox brand and how he has "taught the guy who's doing the PS3 conversion of NG everything he knows".

Before that he says you saw DOAX2 and NG Sigma on the show floor, so I think if you look at both those and compare them you'll see difference, you'll see, you'll be able to make that comparison, obviously DOAX2 is something that I am very deeply, physically involved with, and so the quality is gonna be high. It really does depend on who's making it. But I think that Hayashi, the producer and director of NG Sigma, has a great challenge in front of him. And I trust that he's gonna do his best. And there's still long ways to go. They've only been working on the hardware for a few months now. So we'll have to see how things work out.

And how people who that are supporters of the Xbox should understand that this is a good thing because what it allows me to do is, I've passed the baton off to someone else regards to NG Sigma, so I don't have to focuse my concentration on NG Sigma, I can focuse even more of my concentration on creating new games on XB360 platform. I just wanna people to know if they are confused or upset or surprised, that they have no reason to be. I've been with Xbox from the very beginning when Seamus Blackley came to me and he was in charge of the hardware, I was doing software. A lot of people think of me almost as like the father of the Xbox on the software side. And I just want people to know that I'm still here, I'm still working as much if not more than ever before and I'm never going to disappoint those who have stayed by us with Xbox platform.

MultiLOL.

And yet some people ask where the console wars originate from :P This guy seems to be THE major spinner. I've read he has got some personal stigma with Sony and somehow it shows :)

I was just speaking of this the other day. I think Itagaki has a personal vendetta with Sony. Maybe he was wronged in another life, perhaps. One things for sure, now that his previous claims/criteria has been met, he has fallen back on many excuses.

One other thing I wantd to add, Sigma is only 20% complete as well as first generation compared to a titles that's around 80 or 90% at a much doable pace on the development side. So yeah, there's more to the truth than what's being told.

Z
10-01-2006, 04:04 PM
so with only working a few months on Sigma and yet it looks that much better than the latest DoA though they are much more familiar with the system and are further in development? and yet this guy can still come out sounding like that? wow...

^ It's all about the mighty dollar and Sigma looks impressive & will have strong sales figures. (it will because no other AAA action games are launching for the PS3 in spring 2007) If Heavenly Sword is released in Feb 2007 & NGS is released in Mar or Apr the sales should do well. If Sony can hit their production goals and have 6 Million PS3s in the market by end of 1st qtr 2007, that's a decent userbase to amortize development cost and walk away with a profit. Also, the demographic of early system adopters (18-35 Males) are the perfect market for this type of hardcore action title... NG never sold that well on the Xbox just based on the user install base and if the title does better on the PS3 with a low install base (6 million) Tecmo will move NG2 to the PS3 as quickly as possible. (unless MS pays for exclusivity)

OmniCloud
10-01-2006, 11:22 PM
I think Ninja Gaiden will be on PS3 for the simple reason that Itagaki is letting his young dev. direct it. Itagaki favors 360 so I think he'll continue to put most of his effort there while letting the other guy he taught handle PS3. I would imagine NG2 debuting on 360 first w/a PS3 version 3-4 months later. Ur right tho Nameless-I think Sony has got enough titles coming for the system to have strong sales for 06-07 with the BIG MGS4 and probably DMC4 coming towards the end of next year. THe question is-can they get the production together in order to match demand.
