Listen up PSINexter... you know the day is coming - the day when brother will fight against brother... when Playstation fans will clash across the web in a merciless dance of destruction, as gamers take up their controllers and vie to prove that they are the best.

Fighting games, sporting matches, shooters... dragons... who knows what.

Will there be clans on the online? Teams? Who knows... but there will be a team that transcends those restrictions, that exists whether or not it is allowed to. And that will fold the hell out of the Fold@Home project.

So here's the deal, for whoever's interested, it's time to start thinking in advance of what to name the PSINext team/clan for when the PS3 Online world launches.

I have a couple of names to toss out to get us started; we'll pick the best ones from this thread, and hold a vote on them within the next couple of weeks. And we'll take it from there as we learn about Sony's online plans... but we'll be prepared.

First off:

1) Team PSINext and 2) The Giant Crabs... what else we got?

Okay, so that was 10 minutes...

1. PSINext Platoon

2. PSINext GI [add. Vets](....it sort of rhymes with Vets on the end, plus it sounds cool... It could very well do without it though. Three words kind of makes things complicated.)

3. PSINext Profs (short for professionals but could also just be Pros...if you want to lame-it-up.)

I think they all have nice rings to them. Just what a good team name needs. :thumbl:

I'm sort of tied between 1 and 2.

Less desirable would be PSINext CELL. While it does incorperate both PSINext and the PS3 hardware, I'm just so used to hearing teams being called Cells on Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (clans=cells online).

Great idea here guys. We really need a good feel for who has what game and clans association per title. Once again excellent idea. Online gaming with friends/acquaintences is the pinnacle of gaming (IMO).

Why not? I think E-MPIRE would work well. Its not like the other consoles are going to be on the PS3 network. It also leaves it open for any regulars from the other branches of E-MPIRE (who have a ps3) to join in... :)

Yeah, the actual poll will be limited to the best five or ten or something, but an open brainstorming session like this I think is helping to get us on the path to some awesome names.
if there are many good candidates, we can easily have mulitple 'five-option' polls. then we can make a final poll of all the winners.:queer:

U know guys, we should have in this site the amount of users that uses the Playstation Network Plataform, I mean everytime we get online with the PS3 the site will register how many ppl are connected and who are they.. Can't we all agree that we need a name which clearly points to this forum? This clan isn't only for us to get together, it's also as advertisement for the forum, IMO.

BTW: I agree with mama84, we should all have PSI in our names, if Sony won't use a clan system which does something like it. It would also make it easier to get the usernames that we want.

For example, Sephiroth_VII will most likely be taken by the time us here in Europe get our PS3's, but Sephiroth_VII[PSI] will probably be available.

This forum (before early 2005) used to have two sub-sites, called PSPInsider and PS3Insider, and it was completely independent. It was a sort of golden-age of tech discussion, and many of us who joined before then have fond memories of it. But for two months in early 2005, the servers went dead. When they went live again, the news was delivered that a network called E-mpire was purchasing the site. A couple of months later, the forums were merged together.

The 'PSINext' symbol you see on the upper left of your screen (if you have the PSINext skin enabled in your forum browsing) is a remnant of our old site. We used to have an 'other consoles' section, a general technology section, general discussion, and politics section. Sort of how E-mpire does now, but all PSINext-style. ;)

Anyway... so yeah, when people refer to PS3Insider, that's what they're refering to.

That's also why members such as myself feel a greater loyalty to the name and identity of 'PSINext' rather than that of E-mpire. Think of it as being a part of the United Kingdom. If you're from Scottland, you're still Scottish rather than English, are you not?

Well... we've still kept a good 'core' grouping of our former members, but we used to have more developers, more industry insiders, etc etc... some people were just really put off by the move to E-mpire, and some just had drifted to elsewhere in those blacked-out two months.

I *am* proud to say though that I know a number of the industry folk we used to have still 'ghost' the forum from time to time to check out the feel, and we've of course had some pop in randomly from time to time in order to participate in threads.

Anyway, me and others will often say that this is the best PS3 forum around, but it had it's roots in that forum of old. Things aren't as tech-centric here as they used to be (some might be surprised by that), and I honestly miss that. But we try to keep the 'feel' of the old-school forum, and I think you newer members enjoy the fruits of those efforts. :)

In PSINext style, I'd say overall the kind of members that have joined up since the switchover are members who are attracted to the positive things that make this place different, and wish to contribute to it, and as such they themselves continue to expand the legacy of PS3Insider... whether they know it or not.

PlayStationInsider-online. Sounds pretty good to me. Of course our official name would be PSI-on, it would just be an acronym of PlayStationInsider-online.

This is the way to go. Most of the gamers that will be online playing against us, will know what set we claim.:spiral:

I thikn first we shoudl decide what kind of "group" we want to be known as.....from there we can use any adjectives necessary to finish the name.

Here are some words that would properly define us as a group:

Federation, Union, Brotherhood, League, Alliance, Gang, Faction, Guild, Order, Fellowship, Academy, Network, Team, Society, Mob, Connection, Outfit, Ring, Fraternity, and Camp are a few that describe groups.

We shoudl poll these and then have a contest to see who can pick the best name to decide said group.

Spider-Man font is one of the greatest and stylish fonts ever in my opinion.

Graet logo Insane. Try it with the red turning to blue (no-one say "lol hold ur horse we havent even confirmed the name yet!!" i simply want to see how it will look and I always connotated PS brand with blue)

Those who don't like the Spider-Man font usually don't like it for the fact that it reminds them of Spider-Man every time they look at the PS3. They don't realize how well it goes with the PS3's convex shape and that it's really the best font to use considering that.

xb was probaly implying that there is some way to copy or find the font based on the PSINext logo....which, there IS.

I posted it a long time ago so I'll need to do some digging.

It's a little more tricky when the letters are meshed together over a design...but I'm working on it.

EDIT: Took the logo, erased the background design, chopped it up to seperate the letters, outlined them all in black, and ran it through What The Font........the results were close, but not quite (well, OK, not close and not quite...). It must be a custom font. You'll just have to ask Oddyssey for it (I'm sure he has it).

- Did not take anything from playstation nor name of any symbolization, so it will absolute be differed from other PS-World..NetworkStation..PlayOnline.. or anything has to with console brand names, to make it original.
- Second reason, ok first you got a guild, to me it sounds very online game-ish in every way, giving you the feeling brining members together(important imo), for instance, it may sounds like "I belong to a 'guild called empire'", yet ending with e-mpire which means it's also larger than just a guild, it's an empire.
- Plus, we won't have to worry about if other groups name themself xxxx-guild because Guild E-mpire gives you the "guild < empire" feeling and that equals to "Them < Us". After all, ending with the word empire gives you a very powerful sound.
- It's also got the simplicity to understand, but also very special because the reasons above, so no one will need to decipher or just ignore and forget the name.
- Easy to be memorized as "GE" which can easily be associated to "Gamexxxxx" like, GameMaster(yet different). After a while people will twist it and being memorized as GamingEveryday..GamingEveryone..Got E-mpire? etc, which is a good thing.
- The "-" works in a very special way here, first,that's how it's different from rest of the "Empire"s, second, it will help to memorize the name a lot, in terms of visual of shape of the words, because I think most people's eyes will experience reading the "G" first then move to "E-" very very quickly almost as if you're reading from the middle of two words because of the "-", and back to the "G" to recheck the whole words. Just a thought.
- And as far as the shape/design goes, the "-" also makes it very well balanced. You can break it into three pieces, "Guild" as top-left, "E-" as middle, and "mpire" as bottom-right because of the "p".

It sounds to "fancy-ish", now I like PSI-co (psycho). It sounds better than PSI-0n (scion):barf:. PSI-co is easily remembered, and to me can be taken two ways-Psychos or PSI-co a military operation type of thing.

Like in the Roman Empire (and yes all admins say it isn't spelled Empire)

Ranking of Soldiers in a Roman Legion just put PSI in front of any of those names.
