Martin Scorsese is back with a vengeance in his latest crime epic, adapted from the 2002 Hong Kong movie Internal Affairs. The movie follows a Massachusetts state cop going undercover into the Irish mob (DiCaprio) and an Irish mobster going undercover into the state police (Damon) and the center of this puzzle (Nicholson) as he rules over everyone as the mob kingpin. With a lights-out cast that includes Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Vera Farmiga, Mark Wahlberg, and Ray Winstone, this crime epic could very well join the ranks of Scorsese's best (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas). The early reviews are calling it a crime classic. If you were disappointed by The Black Dahlia (like me) rejoice. The best director alive has returned to his old stomping grounds and he's taking no prisoners.

can't wait to see this movie
I loved Gangs of New York too
Leonardo DiCaprio can look so intimidating when he wants to

I've been looking forward to this movie for a while.
Scorsese directs a gangster movie, all is right with the world.

For a change. Movies have been near abysmal this year. The final three months look very promising, at least.

So far, many of the major reviewers are calling this a great, great film with a lot of excellent performances by all of the major players. This could be a financial and critical smash, to be sure.

I hope it is.
If this turns out to be anything less than one of my favorite movies ever I will be disappointed.

Well, The Departed is now the front-runner for Best Movie of 2006, over A Prairie Home Companion and United 93. Great acting, direction, and story meshed together for a nearly effortless 155 minute movie. A miscue or two aside, this movie is about as great as they come.

Totally gay I went to go see it tonight and went inside with my popcorn and drink and was all ready then the fucking employees came in and said there was a problem with the projector and they couldnt show it tonight. They gave everyone free passes, but I really wanted to see it tonight. It would be almost over by now. They better have that shit fixed by tomorrow.

Hear hear. Its not as good as Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, or Raging Bull, but it beats some of his other fare like Last Tempation of Christ, Gangs of New York, The Age of Innocence, and The Aviator.

Damn I loved this movie. I saw it earlier today, there were a lot more people at the theater than I thought there would be, so hopefully it is a big success for Scorsese and everyone else involved.

27 million at the B.O. first weekend... I'd say so. Not enough to recoup their losses (the movie cost 100 million), but its a start.
