Blizzard adopted Havok 4 recently. So will we be seeing Diablo 3 running on Havok 4.0? Some of the advantages that I see are that:
Using an engine means they’ll complete Diablo 3 sooner (2007?)
Havok supports Mac OSX, so making Diablo 3 run on a Mac will be seamless
Havok supports PS3 so MAYBE we can see Diablo 3 on PS3.
The Diablo on Playstation stuff is perhaps premature BUT listen to this: Havok gets three times better performance from PS3 compared to a high-end PC. And why would Blizzard want an engine that does well on a console unless they plan to use it.
So we could be seeing Diablo 3 on Playstation as well. If we do, there’s a good chance it Diablo 3 won’t be a MMO.

Maybe? I mean this is just speculation about a physics engine being warrant enough to put Diablo 3 on PS3. There's a lot more that goes into making a game than just physics...

Every single Blizzard fan in the world would have to buy a PS3 then. If they want the highest performance for the least money, that is.
If that happens, maybe we'll get Warcraft 4 & WoW2!!!

They need to ditch the pure hack and slash gameplay, 3D action has changed ALOT, it's no longer viable to just have a 3D character essentially running in a flat 2D map populated by 3D objects, "hitting" enemies by constantly mashing the hit button through some kind of stats/dice-roll, nowadays everything is governed by actual collision detection, using an actual moveset that allows the character to both attack in a variety of ways and dodge both vertically and horizontally. 3D action games are in, button-mashy "hack and slash" mashers are out.
Just my opinion of course. :grouphug:

Just because something is no longer a fad, doesn't mean they won't do it. Look at Hellgate (http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?fs=1&id=1779), its supposed to be a MMO-action hybrid. What they COULD do, is have Diablo 3 be a traditional MMORPG, but just not the same angle we're used to.
Or, they could use a new route, something like...NGB, or DMC3.

Honestly I have to say that stripping away the intro FMVs, Hellgate London to me isn't all that exciting, it's like every other pre-year 2000 button-clicking PC "action-RPGs" with little depth to combat and movement, it can be "fun" (for those who like this sort of thing) but the concept is seriously outdated and I don't see myself ever playing Hellgate London even if someone gives me a free copy. The actual action itself does not have a ton of depth at all, you're still moving on a flat 2D level and either button-mashing meleeing or shooting really simple and dumb enemies, it lacks the nuances of both the melee combat in 3D action games nowadays and the shooting experience of modern FPS games.
Like one of the developers said at a GT TV interview at E3, it's about collecting stuff, but to me you can do that WHILE having a more fleshed out action/melee experience in a TRUE 3D environment instead of this whole EQCON-style 2D map. I don't think the network infrastructure really can afford a truly sophisticated action RPG in which both the action and the RPG elements have a good amount depth instead of just having action and RPG elements present. For something really next-gen, if you have a 30-feet tall monster chasing after you, you need to be able to climb up structures and jump on the monster itself to attack the "weakspot", or use the environment against it like a mage casting a spell to lift a house and throw it at the monster, instead of just mash-mash-mash, or shooting magic balls at the monster while everybody is sitting on the same 2D flat plane, that kind of stuff has to go.

I love the Diablo style, but Blizzard has shown they are not afaid of change (with what they did with WC3, and just WoW's excistance). I seriously see them taking what they learned with WoW and just make a more story based single player game in the Diablo world.
