big boobed action (http://www.playfuls.com/news_7339_Tomb_Raider_8_Planned_For_PlayStation_3. html)

Well, the Eidos brand is still live and kicking thanks to SCi Games, so I guess we all know what that means... Indeed, a new Tomb Raider game is coming. A few years ago, as Lara was going through her midlife crisis, the prospect of another Croftian adventure wasn't too appealing. But after this year's unexpectedly great Tomb Raider: Legend, the heat is on once more!

We still don't have a title for the next Tomb Raider game, so we'll just call it Tomb Raider 8 for now - in hope that we didn't screw up while counting all the previous major instalments.

Tomb Raider 8 was not only confirmed as being developed by Crystal Dynamics - the team behind TR: Legend, but SCi's latest financial report also mentions that the new Tomb Raider game will include a PS3 version (probably alongside a PC and Xbox 360 version). Other than that, the brits are in no rush to release any PlayStation 3 titles in the near future, reasoning that it's always been their company's policy "to launch titles on a new platform when the platform reaches a commercially viable installed base". Fair enough, if that's what it takes to keep the series going.

SCi didn't offer any release date for TR8 in particular, however they announced that their PS3 projects currently in development are planned for release "from the 2008 financial year onwards". Assuming that Tomb Raider 8 is among them, the calendaristic 2008 would be a safe bet for now. And if you can't hold on that long, don't forget that Crystal Dynamics is also putting together a 10th Anniversary Edition for the franchise. Should be interesting to see how that turns out, most likely next year.

Exactly-I hate when companies gets hyped from great games they did in the past-All the tomb raiders after part 2 have been average at best...that's why they can't afford to make games on PS3 without a HUGE user base-cuz not enough casual fans own PS3 yet-which r the only ones who would buy crap such as Tomb Raider-lol..

Fellas, I thought the most recent Tomb Raider was a strong title and a step in the right direction. I'm looking forward to seeing what the team will do on the PS3...

Do we need a new thread for every new game announced? lol
At least wait for some screenshots before making a thread about a game. ;)

I didn't think TR: Legends was too bad and enjoyed it as a "pick up and spend few hours on it" kind of game. It wasn't too involving but at least it wasn't boring or frustrating.

Hey, Legends was great, and I have a hunch that 8 is going to be way better. They've got more experience, and better devs. Plus, it's on PS3.

Tomb Raider: Legends was a lot better from some of the earlier Playstation 2 work, so, it's a step in direction.

Although, I do think Tomb Raider: Legends was a little too short. I guess it was because of the limitations they had.

I agree with the comments above-the last one was "Good" not "Great" like the first and 2nd. Do u think Prince of Persia or Assassin's Creed won't do everything that Laura did in legends only better? A step in the right direction is not enough for me to care about a Tomb Raider game...Especially with so many other titles competing for the Action/Adventure genre. And the game was like 8hrs?!!!

I really enjoyed Tomb Raider Legends, so I'm glad they're making another one. I would like the next game to be set in caves again with dinosaurs just like the first Tomb Raider was.

Well, most of us have a reason to like TR8. Also, remember that Crystal Dynamics didn't work on TR 1-6, only 7.

I'll check it out if out if PS3 gets a release of Legends...but they said the system has to have a installed user base so...

^It won't. They stated the TR7 is done, now they're concentrating their next-gen team on TR8.

LOL me too. I just thought there might be those who still enjoy it.

Just to be honest with you, I was in the same boat as yourself after the PS1 version of the original Tomb Raider. For me the series took a major plunge after the first edition. Until recently with Tomb Raiders Legend is when I realise SCi had began picking up on the series. Legend is nothing, and I do mean NOTHING, like the original Tomb Raider series. For me, this series felt more natural and open. I thought it was a great game. With next-gen hardware, I'm sure the series can be pushed even further so long as SCI adheres to the same strategy.
