Above is a translated link from Google to the Japanese Playstation website
on the news for today October 3, 2006
Translated for SCEJ frontpage news
Sixaxis Playstation 3 Controller = 5,000 Yen including tax (US - $39.99) est
PS1/PS2 Memory Card Adaptor = 1,500 Yen including tax (US - $12.99) est
Playstation 3 Remote Control = 3,600 Yen including tax (US - $29.99) est
Enjoy, sounds pretty reasonable for additional PS3 Sixaxis controllers

Tell me about. I'm just glad I won't have to handle it like my PlayStation Portable. I wonder if this remote control can be used for PCs as well via a Bluetooth HUB. One more thing, has it been confirmed that Bluetooth KB&M are compatible with PlayStation 3 right out of the box because all I've heard so far is USB compatible?

about SIXAXIS (part no. CECHZC1J) (why does Sony want to shout all the product names now? :)):
It's said that operation of maximum of 30 hours is possible with the full charge of 1 time (umm, hour? :)).
About memory card adapter(part no. CECHZM1J):
As for the memory card adapter, you can transfer both PS1 and PS2 data. You just insert the adapter into the USB and it moves the data into the PS3's HD.
The remote has seemingly got a full set of PS controller's buttons, even L3 and R3 :)

The Controller Named (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/736/736932p1.html)
From Dual Shock to...
by Anoop Gantayat
October 3, 2006 - Six Axis. That's the official name for the PlayStation 3 controller.
Sony announced today its first accessories for the PS3, and included in the announcement was the name for the new Dual Shock. With the controller no longer featuring rumble, most expected the new name to do away with the "Shock," and sure enough, the final name of "Six Axis" reflects the motion-sensing abilities of the device.
Every PS3 will ship with one controller standard, but those who want multiplayer play will need to pick up an extra device. Sony also announced today pricing for extra controllers. In Japan, extra Six Axis controllers, model number CECHZC1J, will retail for 5,000 yen. This is a step up from current Dual Shock controllers, which tend to retail for just under the 3,000 yen mark. Converting to US dollars, the 5,000 yen price is approximately $40, although actual regional pricing tends to differ somewhat from direct currency conversion.
Sony also revealed today a few new bits about the controller. Each controller will have a Lithium Ion battery built in. You'll be able to connect to the PS3 via USB to charge the battery, with a single charge taking 30 minutes. And yes, you'll be able to play games while the controller is charging. It's unknown if Sony will be including a USB cable with the controller.
Stay tuned for further details on Sony's new PS3 peripherals.
PS3 Peripherals Announced (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/736/736936p1.html)
No need to worry about your old save game data.
by Anoop Gantayat
October 3, 2006 - Sony Computer Entertainment Interactive announced today the first official set of PlayStation 3 peripherals for Japan. The company has three PS3 accessories planned for Japanese release in the near future: a remote control, a wireless controller and a memory card reader.
We already gave details on the so-called "Six Axis" controller. Separate controllers, model number CECHZC1J, will be available on 11/11 for 5,000 yen.
The remote's official name is BD Remote Controller, apparently to indicate the device's convenience for Blu-Ray disk playback. Model number CECHZR1J, the remote control will cost 3,600 yen, but it won't be available until 12/7. The device will use Bluetooth to interact with the PS3.
Finally, the memory card reader, which will help you maintain your PS2 save game collection. Officially called the Memory Card Adapter, this device, model CECHZM1J, will retail for 1,500 yen when it sees release on 11/11. It connects to the PS3 via USB and accepts memory cards for both the PS2 and PlayStation. Once you've connected the device, you'll be able to transfer your save games to the PS3 hard disk, so you'll presumably only have to use this once.
US and European pricing for these devices have yet to be announced.I guess the sixaxis will include a USB cable since it's damn cheap and it would be really annoying if they didn't. The PS2 network adaptor actually included an Ethernet cable, so I guess there's no reason to think the controller wouldn't include the optional cable.

i even found the PS2 DVD player redundant, with the exception of the fact that theres a cord attatched to the controller...I guess the people who will use PS3 as their main CD/DVD/BR/music player/slide viewer would feel more comfortable with a traditional remote rather than with a controller. I for one would prefer a remote.

Wow, I completely forgot about that!
I guess the sixaxis will include a USB cable since it's damn cheap and it would be really annoying if they didn't.
of course it has. the back of the pad (or is that called 'the front'?) has a mini-USB cable ala PSP's. and re-charging is the way to go. just the day before last I was at a game shop and the owner was complaining that he has to keep buying batteries for the X2 pad. that bothers me for Rev's pad as well. I don't like to buy any electronic device with batteries if I didn'thave to (like with TV remotes).
and I guess that is another official promis from Sony that was meat and exceeded. they said they were aiming a single charge will last a full gaming day (24h). 6 hours more than the target is great! and knowing Sony, it wouldn't take long to re-charge as well. you can do it seamlessly while playing or when you leave the room or go to sleep. neat.
about the remote; it is great that it uses Bluetooth. this is the first remote I heard about to use that. that also means more freedom since you won't have to keep pointing.
but I don't know why console remotes all look ugly and bulky? X2's remote may be the best looking remote, but it is still huge. I don't expect fancy backlights and what not for standard accessories, but I was hoping for somethng with less edges and more sleekier. guess that is another peripheral I'll be getting from Logitech instead. ;)
doesnt a bluetooth controller kind of make a bluetooth remote redundant?
I actually am more comfortable using the Dual SHock as a movie remote. I feel I inheritly know all the short cuts. with conventional remotes, you have to look at where your fingure is and you sometimes get a little confused with all the different layouts of all the remotes you use. but with DS, it seems natural.
I won't be getting a remote uless it is very well designed and looks very attractive. either that or as LaLi said; PSPs and Sixaxises are more than enough for me. :)

Hopefully Logitech will update there Harmony remote system to match the PS3. 1 remote to controll all the crap i have (and its a lot) even though bluetooth remote would be nice, but if i'm not in the room with the PS3 i can use my PSP to controll it.
30hr battery life...WOW!!!...thanks Sony, a reason why i didnt get a 360 yet is because of the constant changing of battery, expensive accessories.

Do you think that while using the adaptor, we will be able to transfer data not only to the HDD but also to a memory stick (or any other type of flash card)?? if so, will the PS3 still be able to read the saved PS1/2 data from the flash card??
Anyone??

What're the Blue, Red, Green, & Yellow for? Is that to assign the remote control a player number? (As in first player, second player... so on)
I think the remote looks okay but I don't bother with 'em anyways. SIXAXIS will be plenty convenient, and fortunately Sony's not the kind of company that would ever make me buy the remote just to play movies...*cough*
I'm surprised some of you guys don't like that controller price! You do know that wireless X360 controllers are $50 in the States, right?? If these controllers cook out to $40 in the US, I think we'll be getting a cheaper Wireless controller than any other console this gen right off the bat. That's fantastic, and it's weird that they compared the PS3's controller price to the current PS2 controller Price, which is obviously lower than it was at launch for PS2...
Glad to see the Memory card reader too, I have no more questions about that :)
I don't know why, but I have an urge to shake that hand. it appears on almost every new Sony electronic system and gadget...
What're the Blue, Red, Green, & Yellow for? Is that to assign the remote control a player number? (As in first player, second player... so on)
well, that is the color of the layout symbols in the pad. I don't know why would the seperate them. could it be a new BD movie thing?

All BD Players have those colours. It's a Blu Ray control thing.
Or at least the remote for my Sammy BD-P1000 has.

The price is good.....actually its great. Built in rechargable battery, 30hr life, wireless.....for 40 dollars. Thats good. The 360 wireless controller is $50 and you have to buy battery for it, or the rechargable kit. Wii controllers are $50 too. The remote is for people who want to use it to watch movies and not use the controller. It's not being forced down your throat for BD playback, *cough* XBOX remote *cough* Some of you guys here can never be pleased. Good luck to your women.

PS3 will work with any USB keyboard and mouse, and probably with Bluetooth ones. There will be no Sony keyboards and mouses required for PS3. Also, PS3's HDD is a bog standard drive, meaning that you can buy any HDD of any brand and it will work with PS3 as long as it's a standard 5400 RPM 2.5" SATA drive.

You know, at first I thought how lazy of them not to manufacture PS labeled KB+M and headsets, but then I thought how saturated the market is with Bluetooth enabled stuff and I too like this approach of unproprietarity. There are plenty of BT headsets that beats the hell out of the 360 headset and usb KB+M are like $10 if know how to find them.

Well, atleast it's $10 cheaper than the Wii-mote+nunchuck combo.
keep in mind that a standard bluetooth controller probably costs 39.99 or more and the 360 controller costs 49.99
just in case; you don't need a memory card adaptor for PSOne/PS2 saves. you can simply go to gamefaqs.com and directly download many save files of alot of games. granted, they won't have your name or specific track records, but it is very handy for me when I lose any save I had. it is also very handy when I want to replay an old game from a specific level or want to watch the CGs rightaway.
it can also play as a semi-gameshark of sorts. that of course includes PSP as well. ust download them to your PC, then move them via USB to PS3 or PSP. you will need a 3rd party accessory to move them to PS2 though.

I think I will end up selling my PS1/PS2 memory card USB adaptor the day after I buy it because I will honestly only use it once to transfer my saves to PS3's HDD. Unless it doesn't allow to copy the saves on the cards to the HDD, although I really doubt it.

I think it ONLY allows copying the files, not using them, so yes, it is basically a one time deal.
