This past week was the annual event for GameStop (and now EB) mangers. During the course of the event, the different development companies ay out their strategy for the coming Christmas and early spring cycle. I did not attend, but my manager did and had many interesting things to say. So when I refer to “he” I’m referring to my Boss.
He couldn’t stop raving about how great the Wii worked and how fun even just the pack-in Wii sports was. He gave high praise to Zelda and Metroid. The only question mark lay with Mario Galaxy, which he said was rather strange to control, but still early in development.
He said that Pre-orders will begin within, hopefully, the next 2-3 weeks and will not require trade ins. No word on PS3 pre-orders.
Speaking of PS3, he said that there were no working consoles at the event, that they were the exact same set up from E3. He said fall of man was fun, but wasn’t too far out of the normal mold for FPS. He said the PS3 press conference was very frustrating because the rep would ether say they had no comment or would not comment on nearly all questions.
He said Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 was very good. Gears has a slick look and a very polished feel, he said that the chainsaw action of someone up close was awesome.
He said that Peter Moore was a great speaker, answered questions very honestly, even when pressed on the backwards compatibility question.
Interesting asides:
1. Square put to bed talk of a Final Fantasy VII remake and said definitively, one is not in the works, for any system and none is planned.
2. Peter Moore said Microsoft is aggressively going after PS3 exclusive titles, the top of which is currently trying to get Insomniac’s Resistance fall of man on the 360. He announced Army of Two is now scheduled for the 360.
3. Square said they have no new plans for any other 360 games, but Peter Moore said that were a few, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
I call BS on most of this as I've never heard it and it sounds totally BS. I mean Resistance on 360? Come on... I know we had some GS employees on here, has anyone else heard any of this?

Clearly BS... The main giveaway is Resistance, theres no way thats moving to other platforms which clearly makes this a fanboys remarks. Also Square would never say that they will NEVER make a FF7 remake, it just wouldn't happen (Not saying I expect it to happen here).

^If that becomes widespread Siraris that only means that 360's games could possible have 3 times as much textures and PS3 games could have like 7 or 8 times as much textures..lol I see where ur going with the Resistance thing tho-even tho the devs who make the game are Insomniac and work exclusively on one system. Ted Price already stated in a PSM interview that Insomniac is INDEPENDANT of Sony and could've gone to whatever system they want. They CHOSE PS3 from the beginning--this is simply a bogus rant or something..good read tho

That isn't going to reduce the size of the 1080p FMV scenes in FFXIII ;)

My manager's back from that Texas thing, but he doesn't work 'till Friday, I'll post then when I wrangle all the info (and hopefully some free goodies) from him :)

How Resistance Fall of Man could go to the 360 with Sony financing and publishing it? Guys, just think about it one sec....

MS are known for paying people to put on false blogs or hands on reviews on their competition to spread FUD. They did this against apple(the Munchkins) and pay off people to crush their competition.

Just for future reference, that "compression" system that was mentioned (almost as a rebuttal) isn't a compression system at all - It's procedural texturing. It's not going to replace all your textures, and while I'm sure everyone sees the pros, there are also cons.

Resistance would have to be comletely rebuilt from top to bottom. The code is a proprietary engine devleoped by Insomniac and catering to the PS3. Not to mention the fact that the gamecode itself is 12GB, the other 12GB of data is extra's.
but Insomniac is not bound to Sony, and if M$ throws enough money at Insomniac it could happen. I seriously doubt it though, but cash is king.

Insomniac is a completely independant dev and can support what ever system they please. but talking specifically about a Sony funded and supported project going to a non-Sony platfrom is a bit out there.
the same applies for Factor 5's Lair and NT's Heavenly Sword.
on another note, Insomniac has never made a game for a non-Sony platform. just wanted to metion that.

Actually, they are kind of bound in the sense that Sony has got an exclusivity agreement for the RFM. There is 0 chance for seeing it on 360. There is 1% chance of seeing anything Insomniac on the 360...In other words, it will not happen.

I think Insomniac has a pretty good relationship with Sony. They would have to be offered a LOT of money to make the game for the 360.

And of course Insomniac are very close and share tech with the Sony studios, none of which they could use on a 360 game....
You know, the one that would have to come on 4 DVDs. :)

I wasn't aware of the exclusive agreement for Resistance. I just assumed it was more of a gentlemens agreement between Sony and Insomniac, and based upon there history it would be unlikely that resistance goes anywhere else.
but to be honest I never really believed it would or even could happen.

Sony is publishing Resistance. No way Microsoft can take Resistance. There's going to be a lot of "resistance" if Microsoft should try.

Someone has definitely ventured far too close to the fountain. Ted Price has already mention this as a PS3 exclusive due to hardware reasons in a video interview at IGN. Not only that, but the company as a whole, seems to be PlayStation exclusive based on history and the interview.

well if M$ do give them lots to cash to think about, they could always use it to fund future ps3 excusive titles!
