Awesome find, scan, and read NFactor. :smoke:

The game looks like even a couple of months after the fact, it will still be a compelling title for many a PS3 owner. I have the PC version, so am not sure whether I would get this or not, but I'm glad they didn't just make it a straight port.

Great post + rep!
I doubt I will buy this title, because I already own the game on the 360 and the upgrades to the PS3 version is minor IMO... I was hoping for improved textures and a multiplayer component. It still sounds like the PS3 version will be strong and will not suffer from the framerate and loading issues that plagued the 360 version. I just don't see enough for any existing Oblivion players to lay down $60 bucks for the PS3 version.

If you are new to next-gen and enjoy action RPGs, I strongly suggest you give this game a try. The story line is a little weak, but the open sandbox world more than makes up for the story, you can easily put over 100 hours into the game and not complete the story mode... Peace

Thanks for the scans.

The lighting seems to be better, didn't really notice anything amazing about the textures, the character designs are still crap.

Man...I almost feel left out here. All the hype...all the praise...all the reviews and rewards...and I still just wanna play FF12:huh: I might just have to force myself to buy the game just to see what the heck everyone's talkin bout...not at $60 tho-next year maybe.

A slight difference in textures. Can't help but wonder about improved framerate though, and the Knights of the Nine 10-20 hour quest is an excellent addition.

The effects will likely be most noticeable.

I fully expect the draw distance to be set to max and for AA + HDR to be implemented. OH GEWD I'm going to cream my pants when this outperforms my PC.

Nice post, thanks for the scans. I myself don't know if I am interested in this title but many others are so that is a good thing.

Hey...does anyone remember that guy that made all these predictions and one of them was that Oblivian was going to be a launch title?

Was he one of the first people to predict this and if so....along with some of the other stuff he said that has come true does what he say have more clout to it now?

chrismt
10-06-2006, 08:10 AM
He wasn't one of the first ones by a long shot, but he pretty much confirmed it for many people.

The only thing that can't be proven for a while at least is Killzone PS3 matching E3. Everything else has pretty much been proven. Can someone provide a link again for the Nostradamus thread?

I've come to realize that people who actually enjoy JRPG's don;t like WRPG's and vice versa.

This is a very non linear game, focued purely on character developement with not much in the way of an overly melodramatic storyline. JRPG lovers just love anime styled characters and storylines that are just to overloaded in melodrama for my tastes.

If you really love JRPG's I willing ot bet you won;t like Oblivion, but if you never really liked JRPG's you will probably enjoy it.

I spent 200+ hours with the game on the Xbox 360 with about 90% of the achievements completed, so I don't forsee myself doing it all over again.

I like both WRPGs and JRPGs A LOT and equally, and I'm really looking forward to FFXII as it's a mix of both.

I am looking foreward to FFXII a whole lot more then Oblivion, but I will still get it, espicially because of the Nights of the Nine things, my characters always fall into the paladin mold.

don't. don't buy the game if you know you don't like it. even if reviews and sales are good, you know when you still wouldn't like a game. I did that a few times and regreted it. I hated my self more because I knew I will hate these games. best thing to do is try to have a go at it in the store or at least give it a rental. that is after you've seen gameplay videos.

some of the examples of game purchases that slapped me in the face when I knew they would but got it due to all the talks were; (and these are all my opinions):
Wild Arms Code F (felt like a retarted PSOne game).
that Psyco Nuts or whatever game (man that was ass ugly and horrible).
Grandia (please God, no. Oh no)
Star Ocean (made me hang my self three times)
DQ8 (still fighting my self to like it due to the quality level. but God I hate the stupid Dragon Ball art. that really ruined it for me).
Time Splitters (I rather have migranes all night).
Fabel (there goes a waste of a perfectly fine blanck disc).
Death Jr. (you can't be serious?!)

...and many more.:whip:

notice that these games had both review and commercial success- did Wild Arms get good sales? who cares, anyway.

point learned is that if you know you wouldn't like a game, you wouldn't like it. simple as that. I don't know about you, but there are many things in a game that scream at me saying either "BUY ME!" or "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!"

and just to give examples of the opposite (games I liked that everybody else seems to hate) are:
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

I don't remember anymore off my head. ;p

Z, are you talking about the original Grandia on PS/Saturn or Grandia III?
ah...I was afraid to bump into you as soon as I mentioned Grandia and DQ.

have mercy :nervous: .

I was talking about the last Grandia on PS2; Grandia 3 and for the same reasons we can say about DQ8. especially the latter, it is technically breath taking. and I love Level 5's talent. it is just the over the top kiddy theme and 'oh my GOd this can't be serious' kind of atmosphere I persponally feel playing these games. if DQ was made in any other art style than Toriama's, I wouldn't have ANY complaints about it. and if Grandia, Like Star Ocean didn't make me feel like a 5 year old girl playing the game, I would have played through it. beginning of games is very important. you have to grab the players. hook them in.
in Star Ocean, the start off the game by saying "I had milk shake. we went to the beach" while giving ugly anime expressions. Grandia starts off with a God aweful "cutsy wannabe hide and seek" thing. what is worse is that with the latter game, even the opining CG is made of in-game graphics. I don't think it even hade voice-overs.

I don't know about you, but there are certain aspects I have to have in an RPG for me to play 70 hours in it. I know you don't agree with me, but to give you an example of what I like, I'll just say that FF is gotten evidently better with every installment sice 7- with the exception of 9 and X-2.

don't hate me.:nervous:

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for PlayStation 3 - recently revealed as a surprise launch title for Sony's next-gen console - will feature a huge, exclusive quest that revolves around new faction The Knights of the Nine.

The Cyrodiil-spanning adventure will offer an extra 10-20 hours of gameplay, with your reward being a collection of super-powerful items.

Your mission will be to retrieve a set of kits known as the Crusader's Relics, fulfilling the Knights of the Nine's primary goal. Think of it as an Oblivion-set search for the Holy Grail, only there's a collection of them and they give you +50 bonuses when bashing people's heads in. However, to undertake the task you'll first have to prove your dedication to the Knights by embarking on a pilgrimage across Cyrodiil.

The Knights of the Nine order you to wander the 16-square-mile gameworld in search of shrines dedicated to the nine gods of Tamriel. Only when you've knelt at each of them will you be inducted into the order and sent out on the quest.

Additionally, being a clan of goody-goodies, the Knights will only allow you to continue your quest if you remain worthy - meaning no crimes, no murders and nothing else that could raise your infamy level.

Locate a Relic and it's yours to keep, so long as you walk the path of good. And, as you progress, locals who hear of your achievements will flock to the ramshackle ancestral home of the Knights to pledge their allegiance, slowly building a thriving community and restoring the Knights' home to its former glory.

With Oblivion already boasting a near-endless playability value, PS3's version could be the best outing yet in the gigantic world of Cyrodiil. Planned as a launch day release - or thereabouts - Oblivion will hit PS3 this November in the US and next March in the UK.

Oblivion: The PS3 Interview (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/738/738319p1.html)

Bethesda producer explores the Elder Scrolls journey to PS3.
by Kathleen Sanders

October 11, 2006 - Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series has set the bar recently for open-ended role-playing games. At its previous berth on Microsoft's X360 and PC, the latest enormous installment in the library has garnered an incredible resume of awards and acclamations. It's one of the year's few RPGs that actually fulfills the promise of "role-playing". The role you take within Oblivion is entirely of your own creation. Oblivion's depth of character customization and the ability to define your experience through choice is exactly what fans have been looking for, and is a reminder, however obvious that it may be, that it isn't about "good vs. evil"... it's about a wide-open field of opportunity.

Last month, it was revealed that Bethesda has long been working on a port to Sony's PS3. So what's in store for the gamer that has already enjoyed Oblivion's possible 200 hours of gameplay on other systems? In short, an extra 10-20 hours of completely new gameplay in an entirely new quest called the Knights of the Nine.

As a Knight of the Nine, your goal is to become a force of good as a holy crusader. Empowered with some of the most powerful gear in the game, you'll make a pilgrimage through the 16 square miles of the land of Cyrodiil. You must visit the shrines of each of Tamriel's nine gods (the sort of shrines that don't show up on maps) and then find the relics that will help restore your priory and the Knights of the Nine to their former majesty.

We sat down with Todd Howard, Executive Producer of Oblivion to talk about it.

IGN: How different will this version be from the others? If I've played this before, is there a reason to play it again on the PS3?

Todd Howard: Our goal is always to make the game look and feel consistent across all platforms. We design the game we want to make and then make that game available on as many platforms as possible. So, it's the same base game as was released on PC/ 360. The PS3 is benefiting from us continuing to develop our core technology that drives all our Elder Scrolls games. Some of that is noticeable on the screen -- like all the new graphic shaders -- and some isn't. The best examples are those new shaders we have for how "near detail" and "far detail" blend together on the landscape. You no longer have a harsh line cutting across the two levels, they blend together seamlessly and the distant detail and land looks much nicer.

Why would you play it on PS3? You might play it because you didn't get an X360 or don't own a PC that can run it and want to experience this unique RPG experience for yourself. Maybe you just want to experience the new content on your PS3. Or you're getting a PS3 as your main console and want to play Oblivion again.

IGN: Are there going to be any new items or creatures added, beyond the Knights of the Nine quests?

Howard: No, Knights of the Nine comprises all the new content we've worked on for the PS3.

IGN: If there is, presumably, a lower-priced "Game of the Year" edition released for 360/ PC, will that affect the price of the PS3 version or will it be a full-priced game?

Howard: It will be a full priced PS3 game. There are no current plans to release a "Game of the Year" edition any time soon, so that really isn't an issue.

IGN: Are all of the add-ons going to ship with it or will they still be extra?

Howard: The downloadable content is actually designed to work with a game that is in-progress and doesn't work as well with a new game. So instead we focused on Knights of the Nine as the new stuff to add to Oblivion that would work well no matter where you are in the game. Downloadable content is something we'd like to support on PS3, but right now that's really in Sony's hands.

IGN: How will the PS3's tilt functionality be utilized in the PS3 version?

Howard: We aren't supporting tilt.

IGN: Will there be a special edition like the X360 and PC versions had?

Howard: No, standard edition only.

IGN: Are you able to use the hard drive on the PS3 to make the world stream better?

Howard: We use it pretty much the same way we use the 360 hard-drive.

IGN: Will the Knights of the Nine quests eventually become available for X360 and PC players of Oblivion, or are they exclusively PS3's?

Howard: We always aim to have all our content available across all platforms, so that is our goal.

IGN: What about some of the gameplay elements from the Knights of the Nine, such as the blacksmith who will repair and tune your weapons to your current level?

Howard: Those features, like the blacksmith, are really tied directly to the content and items specific to the Knights of the Nine. So in that example, you can tune the Crusader armor, but not others.

IGN: Has Sony been able to provide you with enough information so that downloadable content for Oblivion will be available for the PS3 version somewhere down the line?

Howard: How Sony will handle this is still a little fuzzy to us, but it is our intention to make that content available for PS3 as soon as we're able.

IGN: Is there any chance of creating a bonus disk for players of any version who don't have access to broadband?

Howard: This is more of a technical issue for the console. Our content works, but has to work within the constraints of how it gets there. So if that is an option, we'll certainly take advantage of it.

IGN: Are you pleased with how the downloadable content has faired on the X360? Are there any signs that the PS3 version will perform in a similar way?

Howard: It's done very, very well for us on X360. It is our hope we can do it again on PS3.

IGN: How do you feel about consumables for any version of Oblivion?

Howard: We think it's a horrible idea. Not something we think is in the spirit of stuff you'd pay extra for.

IGN: How awesome does the Unicorn look on PS3?

Howard: The unicorn has been our primary focus since day one. Everything else is secondary to us.
