View Full Version : Talking More DS
IGN was told by sources that they say are familiar with the forthcoming Nintendo DS that the real innovation comes from the touch-sensitive screen. They say that the touch screen will be located between the D-pad and action buttons so to allow for easy accessibility. The other and primary screen will be hinged at the top. Nintendo intends to unveil their plans at the upcoming E3 conference in May, so we can anticipate more news and information as that event draws nearer.

Hmm so it's not two equal size screens then? Cause that would be quite wide for that if it was.

It sounds to me as though the touch screen in smaller.

Same size and how does it make it any wider than say the original GBA?
The screns are stacked with a hinge simpliar to the GBA SP

Now that you put it that way, I guess that would work a lot better than the way I had pictured it. I was using more of a regular GBA when envisioning it.

Confound it. You got a reply in before mine. Okay, I guess it might work that way, too.

"They should call it the GBA XP."
As in, "Game Boy Advance: Extra Special"?

The original was to bulkie and the screens are bigger then the GBA.
Thereforth the controlls would require even wider hands, considering the ammount of kids that play gameboy this would not be a wise move. Wasn't the nice thing about the sp the fact that it could easily fit in your pocket.

Exaactly.
Though 'X' and 'S' sound similiar in speech so confusion would be too common.
GBA SP DS....doesn't it just roll off your tongue on to the floor and too your favorite game dealer?
EDIT:
Having a stylus or touch screen, this isn't aimed at kids.

"Nitro" made me think too much of wrestling (and I don't like wrestling). If it wasn't for that....

^When I think of "nitro" I think of speed.
So after E3 we should have a picture of the DS?

Not only will we have pics of the system but the games it plays too. It's supposed to playable at E3 too.
Whoa....how are screen shots going to be displayed? We better come up with something quick. I hope it has a real good image capture system, Nintendo is not known for that.

I just dont understand how this flip screen is going to work........I thought the two sceens could also be used as one larger screen...
How is that possible with a gap between the two screens?

sounds really intresting. This is actualy a good move for nintendo. A more complex system, instead of always just going with the real symple design. I actualy imagin this doing pretty good. Its just intretsing enough to pull people in but not push them away once they get the jist of it. And gameboy has always been linked with true gaming. no matter what people say about gamecube everyone atmits nintendo owns the handheld market. And unless the PSP has some awsome ground breaking stuff I could see it dieing off fairly quickly. Nintendo seems to be intrested in inovation now adays, while sony and microsoft just keep pumping out bigger and therefor by their standers "better". Thats what I like about nintendo. They ahve spirit. Sony and Microsoft are just big companies that buy their way into anything, Nintendo has been around for well, a hunded years and keeps pushing the standard for gaming.
And i see what nintendo means about gaming hitting a rut. for the nes, snes and n64 pirioid the graphics got steadily better. But once you get to this point their so good that even the next system wont seem miles away. each new generation the change becomes less and less. But if the start producing new things like the DS hopefully nintendo will zoom ahead while the others are left in the dust.
