What do you all think, I think theres going to be some theft goin on. Happened a bit during the 360 launch, I think the ps3 launch is going to be even crazier.

I just hope no one gets murdered over one, but I won't be suprised if someone gets a knife or gun pulled on them for it.

A couple officers should probably be warned to keep an eye on these shops on the 17th and 19th. Most anyone that walks into these game stores will probably be walking out with anywhere from $500-$1000 worth of merchandise easily.

interesting thought Galcian. +rep. its inevitable that there will be some stolen from unsuspecting fans that can't help but stroll down the street clutching their PS3s proudly. perhaps a taxi fair should be added to the overall price.

if someone pulls a gun on you just hold the PS3 up as a shield. the box is big enough to protect alot plus they wont want to shoot the thing they are trying to steal.

Nothing is as ineffective as having a viable weapon that's out of reach. I suggest you keep it on you, and not show it/show it off to anyone.

I'm sure it will happen, but I'm sure it'll be rare. Of course, I'm also sure the media will blow it out of proportion.

I'm sure you are all joking, but as a firearm owner, I really hope there aren't a bunch of untrained, unlicensed nimrods running around with guns on the 17th. As for me, I may be armed, I might not. If my preorder hookup comes through, probably not. If I camp out (which is unlikely, given my schedule,) maybe.

I'm trained to carry and have a full CHL for my state. To obtain my license, I had to go through my state's battery of background checks and registration, fingerprinting, photographing, 15 hours of training with a Department of Public Safety trainer, and finally the testing and associated fees to get my license. It's not something to be taken lightly, and you can get in a ton of legal trouble if you are caught carrying while unlicensed.

I had to get a permit because I'm often loading and unloading very expensive equipment in and out of my studio, which, while it's not in a terrible neighborhood anymore, borders some really bad areas, and is right off of a major freeway for easy escape, making it a prime target for crime. If I'm out and about without my equipment in tow, I don't feel the need to be armed, and frankly, if someone wanted to mug me or something (it's never happened, I'm a pretty big guy with some MMA training in the past) whatever valuables I've got on me isn't worth killing even a street thug over anyway. And believe me, if I ever shot anyone with my sweet Kimber .45 carry gun, they would be dead.

Well then I suggest you get a handgun, how's that rifle gonna help you when it's 50-100-200ft away?

It would suck to find out one of us could have defended ourselves against any sort of attack, and our weapon was too far away.

I definately agree, when there is no threat of repurcussions, ppl usually say any-damn-thing they please. I'm a big dude, so that helps. I have 2 guns, but I never take them with me, I will this one night, and I don't plan on showing it off to everyone, like I'm so cool, or some junk like that. It will be in my holster under my clothing.

I know how to defend myself, no karate crap, but I can, although this is southern california we're talking about, nobody fistfights anymore. It really sucks, a co-worker was shot dead last Sunday morning leaving a house party in North Hollywood, great guy who got into a minor arguement from all accounts, guy came back with a gun, and killed him.

I take no chances, but if someone were to try to snactch it, and they had no weapon, I wouldn't just pull it out, and use it...IT IS AN ABSOLUTE LAST MEASURE.

Having said all that, I'm sure 99.999999% nothing will happen, nothing did during the pS2 launch for me, and I expect the same from the PS3 launch.

Southern California is a pretty crazy state especially within Compton, Watts, etc. But I'm sure that those guys usually gangbanging wouldn't be robbing PS3s especially when they're dealing with drugs. Maybe it would be some small dudes, looking for a PS3. And these types are really not that difficult to handle.

Btw, damn everyone is 6' 3". Even I am. Is that the average height in the United States? :D

Let me repeat myself. If you're picking up a PS3 in Compton, the ghettos in Houston, etc, then even arming yourself would prove futile. However most PS3s will likely go to more upscale areas hence there is really nothing to fear at all.

People routinely die from guns, fired by people obviously having them "as a last measure", for reasons too often outside of the realm of reason (having a gun when there is a 0.000001 chance of it being useful ? What a ....), when said people finally lose their temper in what could have been a non lethal event. Yeah, way to go man, carry your gun, be proud of it, and stay here to boost your ego.

LOL... its good that a thread like this can continue. it makes a welcome change from the more tech savvy, serious threads that do the circuits. anyway i'm 5'8'' weigh 11 stone 15 lb and dare anyone to take me on at sprinting (even with a PS3 tucked under my arm) i'll do all my killing in Resistance... come and get it fellas ;)
