View Full Version : So what happened to Tekken 6?

It was hyped at E305, then the realtime trailer came out at E306, and was never heard of again. It was even supposed to have been for launch, and then it just dissappeared. Not even a mention from Namco if it was delayed or not, all those months just passed without a word.

No cussing in thread titles, n00b. Wait, weren't you banned?

My educated guess is they caught wind of how much everyone thought the E3 trailer sucked hard (developers do lurk on sites from time to time, allegedly), and they have gone into hardcore development time to make it look like...not-shit. There's all kinds of games that have a showing, to create or raise public awareness, and then disappear for a good while, Tekken isn't the exception. Hell, the fighting engine is there, and based on the shift from tekken 3, to 4, back to 5 (which returned to it's roots in 3), they aren't gonna f*** with the fighting engine much if at all, so my guess is they're retooling the graphics engine, or bringing it up to expectations.

And it's not like it's a launch game, or they even announced some kind of release anyway. Not like there are arcade cabinets or anything out.

To this day I can't believe they would release a trailer that looked that shitty.

I know. I'm a huge fan of tekken, since I was 10...and wow man..just wow.
They didn't even have self-shadowing turned on.
Just...wow.

The game is probbably going to be delayed thanks to the reception it got at E3.

Ironically, IIRC one of the developers remarked after E3 '06 that the main reason they showed a trailer in such a rough, early state was they heard complaints from hardcore gamers that studios were showing too many pre-processed "target renders". I wish I could find the link but that's the gist I got from the interview. They wanted to show something in real-time for the fans, with the qualification that it was a work in progress. Unfortunately most hardcore gamers seem to lack any context or foresight about the development process to begin with. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

They're working on it so it doesn't suck.

This is weird. Does Megacot have two parallel accounts alive on PSINext? The NYT gamersday thread with the other alias(undercovercop). And now this thread with another. What's up with that? If mods knew they are the same guy then only one should be enough for him I suppose.

As for Tekken6, I'm glad they pulled it off from the launch list. Better take their time with next-gen tech, them namco devs. Remember that Namco is still a UE3 licensee, unless otherwise noted and I'm not aware of it. So if they're creating Tekken with UE3 and it's taking them some time to come to grips with it. I'm ALL FOR WAITING to see the guaranteed awesome outcome of two onscreen characters with that engine!

TEKKEN 6 = King of Ironfist, to coin a phrase will be released when it's done. In the meantime expect a new trailer sometime around PS3 release, and if we're lucky a demo.

MegaCot, it's obvious what occured with Tekken and you know it...
The footage was poorly recieved and Namco decided to go dark until they produced some visuals on par with the current next-gen fighters. (DOA4 & VF5)

I'm sure we will see some mind blowing Tekken 6 visuals at E3 2007.

I thought the graphics were supposedly a rush job anyway.

Yeah, the trailer sucked and now they're bak to the rawing board. No worries, I'm sure they'll have something better for next years E3 show.

Seems to me that most of the game sites weren't bashing Tekken at all-because they all knew it was an early build. Hmm-it seem fans are the ones that ripped it a new one. I just don't understand why tho-Tekken 5 looked great on PS2 and again on PSP-It's not even logical to conclude Namco would release a Tekken game of that calibur as a final product...sheeh-gamers are indeed some of the most critical critics around...

I don't think Namco have ever released a Tekken that looked bad. Often ones that played bad though. :) I don't think there's much to worry about.

Aren't you glad there will be a PS3 game you can be sure will exceed the preview trailer? :)

I was wondering about this title also. Though following the Tekken track record Im sure it is going to look and play great but with the lack of any media of late, I would like some kind of track record.

Yup, Tekken 4. But damn, did it look great!

Tekken 5 made up for it. :)

I don't see any problem at all. Sure, it looked pants, but I'd be willing to bet the all my possessions in that it'll look ace when it goes GOLD.

I read elsewhere on ps3forums I gues , that The producer of Tekken series would have loved having a Virtua Fughter vs Tekken or something like that , maybe Namco is trying to convince Sega to work on it.
But of course the problem could be a balance between the two games to find an ideal gameplay.
But I never really liked Virtua Fighter gameplay ,e ven if it could seems more tactical than a classic tekken jungle & combo based system.
But if there was a tekken vs virtua fighter why not making a gameplay ala Dead Or Alive.
And if Tekken 6 was to be revealed I would like to have the Tag system back from TTT but improved.

They've gone in hiding, nothing more. We'll find out what's happened to these games when the time is right.

Why not both? It's obvious that both are in stealth mode until they are ready to be shown. Not very hard to understand.

Well, this isnt entirely true for Tekken 6 since it had an abysmal showing at last E3 but the final game will be very different from they have shown. ;)

I think we'll have to bear another thread like this one in a few weeks time or maybe after launch with something titled like > What the F happened to Killzone PS3? <

Even when Phil Harrison went on record in an interview about KillzonePS3 not being a launch nor launch window title. I'd expect a 4 year development for a game with Killzone E3'05 trailer ambitions to be honest.

LoL in fact Dark Resurrection is already out ince few months in Japan and you can play with cards to customize your characters.
But I don"t know if they will intend to do for the US and EU market , I don t think so.
