View Full Version : Should I head to Prom?

Would it make good PR if I went (as I am also attempting to run for Vice President), or would it really not make a difference.

My issues are the following:
-Paying for tickets and stuff. I am the biggest cheapskate around; rather than buy a new backpack, I stapled and duct-taped my original.
-Heading with a girl. The problem is that the girl of my dreams is going with somebody else (of course, because I am either fickle or a schizophrenic, I really no longer care). Would heading with somebody
-Dress code. Tuxs are passe. I wish to pull off a Keanu Reeves, entering the area in shades, black pants, black shoes, and a leather trenchcoat. What is everybody's opinion on this?

Its one of those that only come around a few times in your life. I wouldn't pass it up, get a couple of friends together and go.

MagicJuggler
03-26-2004, 11:47 PM
Oh yeah, and I don't have my license. My parents would have to drop me off. :(

And of the friends I have, I know about 5 that are going. Most have dates already. I know some people that invited me to a Japanese steakhouse, although as I am attempting to convert to vegitarianism (I went for a week without animal product), I said I would think about it...

I am curious, why should I not become vegetarian? Should I undertake it, I shall be able to become an animal-rights activist and environmentalist, without being charged as a hypocrite due to carnivorous tendencies.

Thanks for the sympathy Nate. This girl actually knew that I admired her intelligence, her super-organization, her vegetarianism, and her personality (she looks pretty good too). At least I took things better than my last crush (she freaked out when I found out where she lived...)

thats a good reason not to do it right there. btw, environmentalism has nothing to do w/ whether you eat meat or not. (actually, hunting is sometimes good for the environment)

Who the fuck cares. It's a stupid high school dance where girls dress likes skanks and rub their asses on guy's cocks.

Just get a girl and go on a regular date. It would be more fun, and cheaper, and just better in general. That's what I'll probably do.

EDIT: I shouldn't say they DRESS like skanks, but I should say they act like skanks.

Seriously, that's pretty much all it is. People doing those slutty dances to rap music in a big dark room.

You pay tons of money to go to a dance with a girl and it's all shitty music and whores.

One problem...I don't. Everybody whom I've had a crush on (always the superintelligent ones) always (convieniently...) had another somebody. Like Suzuki, I also live in NC, and I just CANNOT tolerate R&B. I am into British rock: Tears for Fears, Pink Floyd, Supertramp.

The truth is...I am kinda desperate, if only for the social status and the subsequent power it affords me. I have managed to score Dysfunctional Geek on the Online Geek test, so that pretty much tells me how bad I am.

I personally hate dances...so why on earth do I want to spend over 200 -for the whole thing- when im not even going to dace w/my date?

Some of me and my friends are just going to go out to eat, dress semi formal, then probably come back to my house or Jed's house and just hang out.

God, just quit being such a pussy and get your ass to prom and cut a little rug.

Go, nerd.

MagicJuggler

God, just quit being such a pussy and get your ass to prom and cut a little rug.

You know what, fuck you! Just kidding, just kidding. I am not a pussy; rather I have this weird tendency to scare people just by being around them. Maybe it's the fact I'm 2nd-gen Colombian, or maybe it's the fact I know that AK-47 stands for Auvomat Klashkinov 1947. Just kidding! I'm really a nice guy, whom gets along with nearly everybody.

I've heard slang, from "mack out" to "pimpin" but "cut a little rug" is one I haven't heard.

Ad bauculum is the logical fallacy of appealing to fear. Example:
Boss: Get this assignment done or you're fired!

But the money is what I am most concerned about; how to go in as cost-effective format as possible. To that end, semi-formal dress, hitching a ride with somebody else, getting my hair cut on a budget, and just looking for ways to cut on cost. Like I mentioned in my first post, I am a true cheapskate.

Yes I am a nerd. Yes I look like a nerd (at least when I am not wearing contacts). No I am not afraid of girls. Yes I know a lot of them are skanks (although I am friends with quite a few of the "nerd" girls). Yes I want to run for vice president (of student council anyway; the presidency is being run for by another ubermenschlich that has the same political policies I do and I don't want to go down in history as another Wendell Willkie), and that an area like Prom is a great place to initiate a PR campaign.

Actually I was at school at the time I typed this in; it was my Travel Period. I go between two schools, a home school and a "Career Center." Career Center is the only way to take many of the AP level classes.

Here's what you should do:
Go to the prom with some buddies if you can't find a girl
Don't dress like Neo. That will solidify everyone at your school's assumption that you are a weirdo (which is bad if you are running for president)
Have fun

Prom is one of those things that some people think is a total waste of time and money but it is a really good experience that you will probably remember for the rest of your life.

MagicJuggler
03-30-2004, 12:51 AM

Friedrich Nietzsche: German philosopher whose teachings would be later used by the Existentialists. Among his teachings were that there was no such thing as good or evil, that the laws need not apply if one was an ubermenschlich (superman; unfortunately, the Nazis and Facists also used this argument to justify the Master Race Theory), and that whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

Don't worry; just because I know how to quote Nietzsche, or other philosophers (I wish not to wear a tux, for it's expensive, and as Solon said, "Nothing in Excess"), doesn't mean I am going to become the next Nietzsche (or Voltaire; I personally enjoy his quote "In the absence of a God, man will invent him) or some other famous philosopher; a humble position as a videogame programmer is all I covet.

-Sometimes, you have to spend money to get something you want.
-Don't be so goddamn picky. Just find a cute girl and ask her. You don't have to go to prom with the girl you're going to marry. Its all just fun.
-Anyone who wants to dress like Keanu in the matrix, would probably look like a very big nerd. Only Keanu could pull that stuff off. In a movie. Don't try to look "cool" in your wack ass definition, but look classy.

Anyway, Nietzsche didnt exactly believe there was NO good and evil... his definition just wasnt the same as traditional definitions. It was more like "good" = strong, heroic, dont hold grudges, etc. "evil" = weak, resentful, sick, etc... (he calls them "good" and "bad"...)

God is dead. Today, I realized that the group was also bringing along their dates; if I went along I would've been the 13th member. Also, I managed (unintentionally) to scare another crush simply by finding out her phone number from a friend. I called her for help in AP Chemistry (the academic form of chemistry), and just before I hang up, she asks, "Where did you get my number?" I think I may have scared her thus

Too late; I already went. Not surprisingly, the shades weren't too weird; at least 5 or 6 other people were wearing some as well (yet they entered later; in the meantime, amidst positive comments on the jacket "Is it real leather," "Did you rent it," "It's really your jacket? How come you don't wear it to school?,"You went all out!," the only negative comment I recieved was "You security?" to which I reply "Could be."

Suzuki was right about there being too much hip-hop. They had virtually no music from the '80s, which kinda ticked me off. Songs like Seeds of Love, Obsession (great if you're dating a psycho), Addicted to Love, Time of my Life, etc. would have been perfect for such a social function, but alas, too much hip-hop permeated the area.

PS: The reason I commented on Obsession like that is (besides the title), the song's main lyrics are:

You are an obsession! You're my obsession!
What will I have to do (separate) to make you sleep with me?
You are an obsession! My obsession!
I want to collect you! I want to capture you!
etc. etc.
