Couldn't it simply be due to different connections between other components in the PS3? I don't know though lol, I am no hardware man.

It's not a 7800 or a 7900... just a custom chip based on the G70/G71 architecture.

7900 GTX die size is even smaller than RSX, 196 mm2 comparing to RSX ~240 mm2, both are 90nm.

Pure speculative B.S.

It's all guesses and rumor compilation. The only facts present are that it's a custom chip...which it obviously is. Sony wouldn't have paid NVIDIA that kind of cash for a part straight from the bin.

Frankly, I'm disappointed at B3D for this.

RSX isn't a Geforce8800, nor a Geforce 7900, RSX is an RSX.
