When Yellow Dog Linux comes out, will we be able to install computer games on it?

No. The architecture of Cell is very different to x86 based processors. You may be able to get an emulator to play older PC games at a later date though.

you can play ppc/cell made linux games. or you can wait until someone get darwine to run properly on the cell to play native x86 games.

There are LINUX games that are perfectly compatible with Yellow Dog 5.0. For example Quake IV is one of them. Yes, you can play PC games on your PS3.

However, they will either need to be a LINUX version or you will have to use an emulator.

The only problem I see is with PC games the limited RAM of the PS3 might become a problem. Console games are designed to do more with less. But PC games tend to gobble up resources.

a linux game like Quake IV will have to be recompiled to work on CELL/PPC, the actual Quake IV is for x86 processors

i really don't think Id software is willing to distribute a compilable (opensource) version of Quake IV :)

I seriously doubt you can play PC games on PS3. I also think PS3's Linux will be a special version that would need PC games to be ported for it for them to work. also, RAM limitations may be another problem.

in any case, don't be so greedy. if you like PC games so much, get a decent PC. you don't have to pay a small fortune for an insane gaming rig with dual-everything. I think a PC for around $1200 should be enough to hold you for years.
