A couple of weeks ago the staff at E-mpire gave the members power to decide who will be "Member of the Month". The members have spoken:

The voting thing is gay. There's no suspense. There is suspense the first couple of days when voting begins. Please don't damn the contest winners when they won "fair and square". I bet good money that if Skull Kid would of won then your first reply to this thread would be a little more different. Also when the staff picked the winners then members like you would say "who's this?" and didn't really agree with our picks anyways so it's a no win situation.

Who cares if we don't agree with the winner? That's the point.
It meant we were shown prominent(ish) members of the forums that we'd never heard of.
Voting just makes it some sort of popularity contest.
Involving the layman member in anything can only be a bad thing.

I was promised Member of the Month in exchange for the... services I provider.
We're all happy that Lucent won (she's an awesome member) but I don't really like the whole voting thing. Don't get me wrong. It was good that we tried it out anyways but it was better before.
