All of the details on Nintendo's upcoming retro packs!


March 26, 2004 - It's been rumored and speculated on for weeks, but today Nintendo has exclusively revealed to us the details on the US equivelant of the Famicom Mini series.

The collection will be called Classic NES Series, and will begin as a limited edition NES Game Boy Advance SP as well as a line-up of eight classic games released during the Nintendo Entertainment System days of nearly 20 years ago.

The NES Game Boy Advance SP will feature a very unique color scheme that matches the original NES controller's look. It will, of course, play any Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance game.


Nintendo will release eight games for starters, all accurately emulating the NES games from the mid 80s: Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Excitebike, Ice Climber, Xevious, and Bomberman. Each game in the series will be priced at $19.99, and will be packaged in a standard Game Boy Advance box featuring the classic artwork of the original game.

"I mean, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man? These are, like, the best games ever," says Perrin "Mallrat" Kaplan, Nintendo of America's vice president, marketing and corporate affairs. "And if you aren't just dying to get your hands on the gnarly new Classic NES Limited Edition GBA SP, you're a total dweeb." Yep, that's a real quote, folks.

The games and system will launch on June 7th in the US.

Holy crap that GBA SP looks awsome! The boxarts arent quite as cool looking as the Famicom Minis that japan got but they still tight.

damnt, and I have this damn red GBA SP.. that one looks awesome, im gonna have to figure out how to trade it in and not spend too much money... I dont know about the games tho .. I would only want Zelda and mebbe excitebike.. bomberman sucks 1 player, so... but not getting any of 'em for 19.99...
edit: damnt, June 7... why so far away? I wonder if I can trade in my red SP along w/ wario ware inc. and get away even.. lol.. mebbe I will be bored w/ another game by then

yah, I liked warioware inc, but I beat the damn game in less than 3 hours, and there's not really any replay value.. why woulda I keep it? I shoulda rented it anyway, instead of buying it.

did u unlock everything? cause there's this special pyoro game u get if u beat all the levels in grid mode, and a whole whack of other mini-games. I haven't unlocked it yet, i hope its worth all the trouble...

guys guys, it is cool, but for everyone who has bought a new SP consider this: it has been with YOU through every moment it has ahd a game in it, now you want to trade it in for a cooler looking model. the SP you bought wants you to keep it (if it had feelings) so think about that

I dont have an SP yet and i have been waiting for the right time to start saving for one. And that time is now. I alread have a regular GBA but i installed an afterburner and got way to much dust and bubbles on the screen so i want a new one. Plus, i am a sucker for nostalgia.

I'm very excited about the NES Classic Series. I've been waiting for something like this for a while. I definitely plan on getting Super Mario Brothers. My girlfriend and I still play the NES version all the time. After that I'm definitely getting Xevious. It was one of my favorite games growing up, and definitely the bane of my controllers' existence. I like the retro-SP's look, but I'm definitely satisfied with my Flame edition, so I plan to stick with it.

This is proof that nobody can milk a franchise like Nintendo. In addition to all of the GBA "Mario Advance" titles, this accumulates to alot of profits. Most companys are stretching it when they release a compilation of their classic games for $29.99.
