So for those of you lucky enough to have one, what do you think? And ultimately, was it worth the wait and $$$?

I honestly have no idea how I would rate the console. With the performance of games I would say B at this time. I really didnt "wait" for the console in the sense that other did, Ive been playing next gen for awhile now so to me Im happy to see it arrive but the anticipation was different. All in all it runs well and is a very solid product but as with many products we are going to have a little wait before the titles start to appear and before some of the aspects of the console become more robust.
Its worth it simply for the BR player IMO.

I'm going to give it 4.5 out of 5.
The only reason it drops .5 is because of the 720p/1080i problem.
This is the finest piece of consumer electronics I have ever had the good fortune to own.
R:FOM is a great game I've played it for nearly 12 hours in coop mode with a friend and we both had a ball.
The multimedia functionality of the unit is also excellent. mp3 data cd no problem. Want to rip your CD to Hard Disk no problem. Want to play hi-def AV file formats, no problem.
Want to go online and surf? you got it no problem.
As for the Blu-ray functionality I've heard the comments like "I'm going to wait till I can pick up a cheap Blu-ray player, I don't want it in my games console", "The quality of the Blu_ray player is going to be mediocre". I can tell you that this will be the best quality Blu-ray player for $100 for along time to come and with firmware updates can only get better.
$100 I here you say but doens't the PS3 cost $500. Well yes but doesn't a similarly equipped Xbox360 cost $500 without a hi-def movie playback feature.
Of course there are a few gremlins in the box but nothing that can't be fixed by firmware or worked around, except for the 720p/1080i issue and that is where it losses half a point. If that gets fixed this unit will be a perfect 5.
R:FOM shows this unit can do great games.
If I could get one thing changed it would be the predictive text, it plain sucks.
I would like the text to work more like cell phones.
Hope this has been informative.

Nice review man. I think the PS3 has had a very promising start and some great games in the very near future. Our first part line up is looking nice as usual.
Not to sound like a fanboy but I really think we got the edge in terms of games over the 360 because its the 1st party and exclusive titles that gives a console an edge.

I think its great so far. I get little hiccups when it won't start up occasionaly, but when I switch it off and on in back its fine. DVDs looked kind of funky when I played them, but when I moved the output down from 720p they looked much better. I haven't played any PS2 games yet because I'm home for the holiday and they are all in my dorm room. The web surfing seems much slower than my laptop on the same connection but i hadn't really planned on using the browser as a primary internet source. I wish the Playstation store could DL in the background, because I'd love to start a download, pop in a movie, then have a new demo waiting for me after the movie. All in all I would definitely say it was worth the wait and the money.

i going to have to give it (if you want a scale) a 5/5, i am in love with this beautiful peice of machinery!!! i have been impressed since i opened the box and im sure wounding noticed that i have basically been online on my ps3 since i got it, but today is football day for me... so not really playing games... until a little later... it is well worth the money, in fact as soon as i started watching talladega nights i knew it was worth it... im absolutely happy with my purchase and cannot wait for motostorm!:drunks:

The 720p scaling issue can be fixed via firmware. If 360 can scale it's games to higher resolution with a firmware update, the same can be applied for ps3 scaling it's games to a slightly higher resolution (1080i) for it's games as well.

4.5 from me too.
PS3 Games - Great, Motorstorm is fricking cool, Resistance is Call of Duty with better weapons. Just playing basic games in hdmi is cool.
BD Playback - Excellent
PS2 Game Playback - Mediocre, I was expecting hdmi to be pixel perfect
Liinux - Kickin
DVD Playback - mediocre
Build quality - excellent
So -0.5 for the PS2/DVD playback.

Actually, according to our good friend Cpiasminc, that's the exact reason they look so terrible. Older TVs aren't pixel perfect so they hide the flaws in the visuals. Also, if you lower your resolution to SD res while playing a DVD it is supposed to improve the image quality.

I rate my PS3 a 3/5 atm.
I play Resistance quite a bit just to play online which shows the power that good PS3 games can produce. Everything else is secondary and isnt being used or put to use. next up is Ultimate Alliance for PS3, I hope that one turns out as good as RFOM.

I give it a 9/10. Everything so far just oozes quality (hardware wise), and I did get some games that look and play great as well. Since we are rating the PS3 itself, it is clear to me that it is a multimedia all in one beast machine and I have to say I love it to death. It was being temperamental last night (games wouldn't start! Demos as well as BDs!, embarassing cuz I had a bunch of friends come by too!), but I restarted it, and it worked/works fine again, no idea what the problem was (error 8010005 or something like that, like I'm supposed to know what the hell that means), so it loses a mark for inconsistency. And just the fact that it's so new, I live in fear of it failing on me, and am relieved to no end every time it works. It loses a mark for that. OTherwise, the thing is so robust and feature packed from the inside out, it's worth every cent.

I was at IGN (I know, i know lol) and a few people made it seem that it was a hardware issue that couldn't be fixed.
An image isn't scaled VIA software...It is a hardware issue.. one article stated that it was because of the lack of a dedicated Scaler chip...
If the PS3 was forced to scale an image VIA it's existing GPU/CPU... It would more than likely be a major hit on performance...
Like I said before...Cell isn't going to magically create a new GPU/Scaler for you after you download the update.True...Not true? Anybody know? Is it possible?
