View Full Version : Firmware 3.0
just letting everyone know that 3.0 is here. I just updated, it's got a visualizer during music playback and some other neat little features. like remote play and certificate utility which I think is for PSone games. there is not much else, but it pretty cool, can't wait for ff7.

The best feature for ME was the "Auto-UMD Start" can now be turned off!
So no longer do I have to hold HOME button hoping the game won't auto launch lol
Visualiser seems out of synch to me and as I use it as a portable MP3 player, it's pretty pointless. Unless I walk around staring at my PSP screen lol
Overall- Awesome update but once again, Sony asks for your patience. No games to download etc yet.
Certificate Utility is (i learnt this thanks to Online manual...which comes with the update) some downloaded games require codes to play and that's where you enter the certificate (i assume) in order to activate that game.
I definitely need a bigger Memory Stick now.
Thanks for the heads-up dude and welcome to the forums, +rep  Also, pretty awesome avatar
I think they should allow music playback while doing other things like when looking at pictures. and you are right the visualizer is not really needed. some games would be a nice addition though, they need to do that soon.

Not worth it for 1.5 (homebrew) users, but perfect for everyone else.
Finally a step forward.

*************WARNING****************
I was messing around with the music visualizer, and after the song got done playing. I backed out of the next song, and the first song got corrupted!
So I would very weary of playing songs with the visualizer.

thanks + rep
Speaking about the visualizer I just realized something cool normally, well before when you pressed the home button during playback the wallpaper would be over shadowed by the icons but now, the visualizer continues to move in the background. Not groundbreaking but a good nicety.
is there an icon or link to the Playsation Store (the one that PS3 uses)?

I like the new visualizer, pressing select puts it to the background of your PSP so its a decent moving wallpaper until you choose an option somewhere else.

you can play avi files to an extent, thoug im not sure which codec it uses. Check the GamerAndy or QJ posts about this to find out. Can somebody try the thing leedog said corrupted his song?
I hope this gets emulated or cutom firmwared soon. I'm on 2.71SEB at the moment, it's good.. but i want PS1 games. Just i dont want to upgrade either

Aparently you could play motion jpegs on 2.80 but they never told us about it.
I think they also said motion jpegs could be played at the native 480x272 but its completly impractical due to size

*YAWN* Sony needs to stop doing this. Boring gits :p
And I was excited it was to allow downloadable PS1 games.

Masteratt, the 3.00 version let you do that.
I think the 3.01 is for fixing a bug
Actually Raitei, version 3.00 only lets you play games downloaded on the PS3 and then transferred to the PSP. I think Masteratt was hoping you might be able to download the games directly onto your PSP.

Indeed I was my man but now I found out that in the future PSP will be getting it's version of PS Store for us to download PS1 games and other stuff.
Until then, only way to play PS1 games on your PSP is to download it on to the PS3 and then transfer it to your PSP.

so, quintessentially... the 3.0 update is rather useless for the UK!
Just a word to the wise guys, don't upgrade just yet. 3.00 and 3.01 has been decrypted, this means you could/should see an emulated version, or custom firmware version of the firmware rather soon.

From what I can tell, the pic of the PSP linking to the PS3 is fake. Mostly because that is a 20 GB PS3, with no wi-fi. There is no USB comming out of the PSP, so it's not hardwired in. Also, I can't use locationfree while wired in to my own 20GB one. (but a wire would defeat the purpose of "location free"). The only thing I can think of is the PS3 is hooked into a wireless router, and using that. I haven't tried that yet, but my wireless router sucks and won't talk to my PS3 while wired in.

The guys over a http://pspupdates.qj.net/ have an interesting theory that the new psp update has a higher clock speed. >>http://pspupdates.qj.net/Firmware-v3-00-clocked-higher-then-222Mhz-/pg/49/aid/74136

wouldn't surprise me, they might have needed a slight increase for it to able to run psone games proper

ok so i've been playing vice city stories and this might just be me going mad after all this talk of performance increses, but i'm pretty sure there was some improvement.
i didn't seem to hit any invisible walls or anything, and there was virtually no framerate issues the entire time i played.

PS3 control using PSP is definately not fake. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUBBb1C5ELM) video shows the PSP being used to control a PS3. I am not disputing what you are saying about the PS3 in the picture being a 20GB one (I haven't looked to be honest), it may well be, and as a result I am not sure just how they are controlling the PS3 using the PSP. As of yet I dont think the 20GB PS3 supports the plugging in of routers and using them to share an internet connection. Intriguing. Maybe the PS3 in the picture isn't the one the PSP is connected to.

I thought that the frequency of the processor in the PSP was restricted by the game and not the firmware. In order to increase battery life for the moment, Sony had put a cap on the amount developers could use in the software used to write the games. That is what was said a long time ago, and this may since have been proved wrong. One proof for this is the GTA:LCS cheat device that allows the processor frequency to be changed within the game. However if firmware version 3.00 has not increased the frequency, then Sony must have re-written the code relating to game loading/playing. Maybe they have reduced the amount of RAM that the OS takes up, allowing games to use more?
Despite what I say, I haven't actually noticed any difference when playing VCS. If anything, I would say it is less smooth than normal, with constant framerate variance, but that may be my imagination. Maybe its the fact ive got a Jap PSP (unlikely). I have some small basis for this, as whenever my mate and I have played LCS together it has always appeared as though his game runs smoother than mine. His PSP is a European one. Strange.
Just out of interest, has anyone seen someone playing a PS1 game on a PSP? I believe I am correct in thinking that PS1 games for the PSP have been released in Japan as long as you have a PS3.

...must be my imagination then.
Sorry if I gave the impression that I was disagreeing with you Seahorse, you probably are witnessing smoother gameplay since the 3.00 update. All I was reslly trying to say was that I doubt that its becuase of the processor frequency having being increased. It may well be down to Sony re-allocating RAM or somehow re-coding the firmware to run games better.

i didnt mean that in a sarcastic way or anything, in case that's what you thought...
but anyway i still believe i'm seeing some slight increase in performance, again, could be just wishful thinking.
i'll try Tomb Raider Legend in a bit, as that game ran pretty slow for some parts, i'll see if it's any better.

The next update really should make the XMB more 'free'. When you are doing one activity, you are stuck to that activity. Not good.
It's stupid that I can't leave the song on and then go and have a look at my pictures. WHY NOT SONY?!? WHY NOTTTT!?!?!?!!????
