Better Communications for the Resistance
VoiceAge to enhance online audio for Fall of Man.
by Hilary Goldstein

November 21, 2006 - Sony has tapped VoiceAge Corporation to enhance the online audio in Resistance: Fall of Man. While IGN editors have had little difficulty with online voice chat, VoiceAge is expected to "dramatically enhance voice communications" by allowing for greater clarity and a more dynamic range.

"VoiceAge is proud to contribute to the impressive realism of playing Resistance: Fall of Man on the PS3 online with many other players -- with this added capability Insomniac Games and Sony Computer Entertainment America are poised to deliver an unmatched game-playing experience," said Laurent Amar, President of VoiceAge. "People are essentially social beings with a strong attraction for teaming and communicating. Therefore, the addition of reliable and high quality voice to online multi- player experiences will enhance the naturalness of communication between the players."

VoiceAge hopes other companies will see the improvements in Resistance and make use of the technology. Of course, that will come at a price, so it's uncertain how many publishers will spend the extra dimes for better online audio.

No timetable has been set for implementing VoiceAge's technology into Resistance.

although I am not sure how much different or noticeably better this firm can make online MP voice chat better, but it is good news nevertheless. I think it will be made through an update.

I wonder if this firm will catch on with more games supported in the future, or at least with 1st/2nd party projects.

So this happens because Sony hasn't yet created (maybe won't even try now) standard API for voice chat in games? I recall SCEI providing lot of these sort of 3rd party functionalities free with middleware for PS3, they could do it also now if they felt it was necessary.

So what's the difference going to be? I really like Resistance's voice-chat as-is, aside from those nasty mouth-breathers

I guess if things work out, they will use it for all 1st/2nd party games. from there on, 3rd party will have an option to use it as well or use their own method.

Sony's plan is: Build as you go. Everyday, it just gets better and better.

After handshaking it should be a go.

You have to enable it through both the game options and the system XMB.
