PS3

The System: Much Like Anna Nichole Smith when she was a fatty. PS3 is big and heavy.... very pretty but big nonetheless. I remember all the complaints about the weight of Xbox, I never noticed Xbox being noticeably heavy. PS3 is "Noticeably" heavy.

Like I said in my impressions post. The Startup is really nothing to brag about. Simple and....well.... boring...zzzzz...zzzzzzzzz.... sorry I'm awake now. The 360 offers an amazing visual feast upon startup with what I like to call the "X-Sphere" rotating around displaying the logo in an impressive fashion. PS3 offers nothing of the sort.

The Gui is easy to navigate, but there are just too many features to wade through, making me feel lost. Children beware! My other gripe about the GUI is that it looks "Too Much" like the PSP's GUI. I would like something different. Again 360 offers a more attractive menu overall.

Another notable 360 mention is that when you're playing a game, you can bring up the "Blade" to navigate though some features and even shut the system off. PS3 just gives you a black screen offering you to only reset, turn off controller, or turn off system. Yawn.

The Controllers: I love Sixaxis...love it (Eat that 360) but you know what? No rumble. This is an inconvenience. Especially for games like Metal Gear.

My other complaint is the price: $60 (CDN) and to top it off? No USB cord to plug it into the system.... that’s separate. Mind you the price for those are cheap...it's the effing principle.:mad2:

The 360 controller feels right to me. Rugged, ergo perfection and doesn't feel cheap. PS3 offers Sixaxis and it quite honestly feels a little too light. I'm afraid to drop this thing.

The Games:

I can't speak enough good about Call of Duty 3. Part of me wishes I purchased that over R:FoM. 360 owners will really enjoy this game. My only gripe with this game is, unlike R:FoM, you can't fully customize your control scheme here. All you get are 4 different configs.

You cannot skip through the Cut scenes EVER. There are cut scenes for each level. But the real problem is when reach any checkpoint, save and turn you system off. When you play the game again you get to watch the cut scene for that level all over again.:mad2:

R:FoM is a really good game but what's with the short levels. I mean, here I am trudging down the streets in a kick ass Panzer.... then bam...the screen goes white and a cinematic pops into view.... grrrrrrrrr.

Much like COD3, when you turn you system back on to continue playing from any checkpoint. The Cut scene for that level likes to show itself...but at least you can skip though it this time.

it's nice to hear someone's opinions, but there are some awfully defensive people round here....

anyway, here's what i think.

having never played the thing i can't comment on a lot of what you've said. but here goes. even though the console is heavy, i dont think it'l be too much of a problem sat on a desk. the original xbox was ugly, and let's face it, the ps3 isn't.

i like the look of the GUI personally, i had a 360 for a while and the "dashboard" was too cluttered for me, i didnt really know how to use it. the PSP's interface is clean and simple. i expect the same from ps3.

Although i might agree with you on the controllers, i loved the 360 controller, for me it was the best thing about the console. it was "properly" wireless, felt great to hold... yeah you had to replace the batteries, but that was never a problem...

I hear ya. They might get defensive but most around here know I'm a PS3 whore. I never enjoyed what I saw on 360 to begin with and still don't. A couple of good titles but nothing the PS2 won't outdo.

You complain about the number of options in the interface?
Personally I'll rather have as many as possible, otherwise let's drop the internet browser, let's drop the blu-ray playback, movies playback (on hdd) etc, there you go, less options.

You are basically bashing the PS3 Ocelot9 and praise the 360.
For whatever the issue is the 360 is better according to you.
My impression is
The interface is simple and elegant. If you just want to play game then play the game, you don't need to go to system setup and other complicated things.
The online is fabulous. It's fast and easy. I played resistance and it's a blast. Game downloading is pretty simple. I downloaded F1 with 620MB and it took like less 5 minutes.
SIXAXIS is comfortable. It's better than the DualShock especially the deadzone is much improve.
So far I'm loving it. No complain here. I can watch movies with my psp from the ps3, it's not that smooth especially the sound but watchable.

Edit: one more thing, I now use the browser to surf the web primarily. It's a little bit slow to load a page but you can use the analog stick to move around a page better than using with a mouse.

No need to be so defensive. Drop the fanboyism. Ocelot doesn't have to think just like you do. He gives valid reasons for why he feels the way he does.

Fight! Fight!

My Wii gripes. Look, it's slanted, you can't balance a beer can on it, look.

Slides right off.

Hey kids, Wii, PS3, 360, it's all good. I got a mouth full of hate about the PS3 from an EB Store manager today when I went in to pick up Gears. Usually at this point the story goes "I put him right", but I was in one of my matey moods. :)

Now you can balance beer on a PS3, but it'll end up warm. 360 has the advantage I think.

And don't be perving on Anna Nicole Smith, I guarantee you're too young and poor for her.

I got a mouth full of hate about the PS3 from an EB Store manager today when I went in to pick up GearsWhy does this happen? What do the store spinners value from this?

I'm always in awe when I hear this happening and it's a lot.

To be honest if I was a kiwi store manager I'd be warning people off PS3 as instead of buying games for $129 NZD at his store I'm buying them for 75-90NZD off the net region free. Good for me, bad for store managers.

But I think with this guy he's very into the online GRAW/Halo style shooter thing, american style gaming. Ridge Racer, Virtua Fighter, Japanese RPGs, all this stuff is wasted on this guy. I think he still thinks online on PS3 is like PS2.

He said basically "Why should I spend 1200NZD(800USD) on this console when the best looking game around is Gears of War on something I already have."

Then he launched into a diatribe, because he played the Motorstorm demo at some Kiwi games show and thought it looked terrible.

I didn't really want to argue with the guy. Just came for my Gears man. I just said I thought Motorstorm was the most fun I had with a demo in a long time, and it looked great to me, perhaps the TV he played it on was bad.

I could have lectured the guy for hours but... Maybe some other Kiwi homie will do it for me.

btw Gears of War... So damn doable on PS3, better even.

Yeah, I'm waiting for my PS3 Killzone. It might not be the be-all-end-all thingie in this universe but I honestly enjoyed the first one, don't know why. Maybe I'm a dork.
