So with the success of BFME2 (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/794/794413.html) and the recent announcement of C&C3 (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/746/746397p1.html) and Halo RTS (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/857/857436.html) for 360, when will Sony announce a RTS game of their own?

Let's hope these two new 360 games are successful, if only to bring RTS games to consoles (keyboard support please!). What RTS would you like to see come to PS3? For me, it'd be the Red Alert series or the Rise of Nations series (of course, this is published by Microsoft), though I wouldn't mind a Warcraft 3 port (digital download?!) or a Total War game.

Done ;).

Here's an idea: Lair RTS... The game already plays a RTS with itself. Shrink that sucker down and let me control the units! Would be a Total War clone...

it'd be cool if someone ported starcraft/total annihiliation/red alert/AOE to cell.

It's MS's push to replace PC gaming with Xbox gaming because they haven't got that much revenues from Windows gaming. Therefore they understood long time ago to target PC audience to be converted into Xbox fans and they have succeeded on a large scale.

I have always been saying that consoles really need RTS and recently MMOs to their mix. it seems the only major genre left. there were okay RTS offers in the past, but I want something comparable to PC RTS projects.

unlike X2, PS3 is supporting key/mouse from the get go, it has a standard HDD, blu-ray, motion-sensing and free online play. if that doesn't help make good RTS offers I don't know what does.

the bright side is there are major MMOs coming to PS3. but I am still waiting on great RTS games on any console. I'll be watching how they do Halo Wars as it should be big- in concept.

Well, for now, you can run Starcraft on Windows XP running on QEMU on Linux on the PS3. Or if that's even possible.

I couldn't agree more man. I just bought Command and Conquer Retaliation for the original Playstation and me and friend are going to hook two Playstation's up, plus two TV's. Just like old times. I'd LOVE to see something similar on the Playstation 3, I really, really would.

Without question, I am really, really, really hoping that C&C 3 comes to the PS3 platform. It alone is the only title I personally feel is worth getting on the 360 at this time. So yes, I would hope Sony announces one soon.

Great find! I sure hope that's true. Hopefully, it's a C&C title. I am an extremely huge fan of the series. It was quite disappointing that not one was launched on the PS2 last-gen.

I absolutely agree as far as support for a lot of the features and or inputs available. I, too, believe that by adding these things could make a great experience. Not sure about Halo Wars, but if it's anything like C&C, then I can only take my hat off to the guys at Bungie.

Unless any RTS ports come with mouse and keyboard support on the PS3, I'll take them on my PC.

Uh, Starcraft 2 anyone? Anyone? Bueler? Bueler? Starcraft 2? That is my dream for a RTS on PS3 because that would kick ass. We all know it coming someday. know for a fact that Blizzard is working on a new RTS. My best bet would be Starcraft 2 as they have been working on all things Warcraft forever. I imagine that are a little tired of Warcraft.

I agree with getting Diablo 3, but we are talking RTS here, not action/RPG...

I'm eagerly awaiting Supreme Commander as well. Did you play Total Annihilation back in the day?

back on topic..

I would love to see an RTS on the console, especially PS3. Interesting things could be done with the six-axis. Maybe something similar to minority report?

what SOny could do to really start the ball rolling and get interest from big time RTS PC devs is to bring old classics as downloadables. I am talking about making direct ports of the likes of C&C, WCIII, etc. Sony should tempt the publishers by giving them a large portion of the profits. they should be focusing on the future and not the present. built up reputation, get gamers hooked, introduce the concept make everyone happy, and then think about a sustainable/profitable business model.

I really think there is alot of potential for RTS (and MMOs) on PS3- and I see the latter making bigger strides on the console with at least two brand new major IPs announced.

This is a fantastic idea. One of these days Sony will need to make a keyboard/mouse exclusive game--why not start with a downloadable classic to ease people into the idea?

All those RTS are great, and I wouldn't mind a PS3 version that is developed from ground-up rather than a port. The Cell adds a new dimension that godly rigs (/w PhysX and beefy CPUs) can do but it will alienate the low/medium-end market. And no, such an RTS cannot be scaled down.

RTS would benefit from realism, an organic environment where 'structures' can collapse because when one 'unit' is affected. I want to see a city that's like a real city - an organic environment. I mean, if I were to introduce a Tu-160 bombers, I expect people to run like mad. In sum, chaos. Infastructure like transport would be targeted in order to choke the population, power outage, sending in special forces to rip apart the police and paramilitary forces.

Or in a grand scale, like say you're Norway taking on Denmark in the medieval ages. It would began in the Naval front. I wanna see spies, yes, real-time strategy does not include just 'macro' events, it includes micro. I want to be able to control the events behind the macro and experience it. This is not MGS. As a strategist, you will control may units who work together to infiltrate enemy lines.

Eventually war will begin, Naval war will involve advance strategies. It will include sabbotage behind enemy lines. Targeting enemy auxillary ship will choke the naval group. Take that into the present, ECM, long-range AAMs on fighters to take out units like AEWs, AWACS, Anti-sub units, etc. In the future, long range lasers, alot of fancy stuff, etc, etc.

That's what I call Sudden Strike. ^_^

I show my grandfather, a WII veteren who had to face the Japanese in one of the hot-spots of WWII (South-East Asia). He looked at the game as a soft emulation of what happened. In WII, there was constant bombings, when territory changed, the Brits did the same. Basic infastructure in cities were targeted, the population would go paranoid looking for fresh water, martial-law, etc, etc, etc. When Japan had most of South-East Asia under control, a lot of anti-Japanese militias were created by the British to do sabbotage campaigns.

I wanna see that in my RTS games as well. That is what strategy is about, military RMAs, the feeling that you're one in Stratcom is needed. ^_^ It is more than just blasting away, building generic units. We want to do much more than that, modern RTS try but there are technical limitations. And yes, ever RTS fan would love it but most find the investment required to have acces to such RTS is prohitive.

I got the rig to handle the visual output, heck I'd even add a PhysX card and throw in Cell-like processor or multiple dual-cores running in parallal. I know many that would as well but that would alienate a lot of gamers. Gamers are are still on Brood Wars because the concept is still the same. We need a revolution in RTS.

***Welcome Change***

With the PS3 an organic Real-time Strategy is possible. I want real RMAs, I wanna control a multi-layered/level/scale Aircraft Carrier Group. Be able to initiate highly realistic bombing compaigns. I want to see chaff being used to escape enemy SAMs, electronic warfare, etc, etc. We should see all of it and I doubt it'd be a risk to national security if we experience it virtually.

I know many would like to experience being a powerful nation invading a less advanced nation that lacks AWACS, formidible ECCM capability while being armed with a bunch of artillery, ancient SAMs, fighters that lack BVR capability, etc. ;)

Rioter14, Diablo is an RPG. It always was. :) But I'd take both along with Sudden Strike, Dominion, Empire Earth, Age of Empires (not possible, though), Warcraft, Rise of Nations, C&C, Total Annihilation, Warcraft, Starcraft and many more. The more the merrier. ^_^
