well here we go
Blue Dragon doesn't hit Japan for another couple of weeks, but there's already talk of a sequel. In the latest issue of Famitsu, producer Hironobu Sakaguchi confirmed plans for a follow up to the big Microsoft-published RPG. Furthermore, while he wouldn't confirm a final platform, Sakaguchi does expect the sequel to appear on the 360.
Including initial planning, development on the title took three years, Sakaguchi revealed. Actual development on the 360 was a two year process. And it was quite the difficult process, it seems, as Sakaguchi claims to have lost 10 kilograms from July 2004, when first interviews were conducted regarding the title.
Blue Dragon ships on three DVDs, making it bigger than any Xbox 360 title to date. According to Sakaguchi, the game required compression technology to fit onto the three disks. In uncompressed form, the game's data takes up over 30 Gigs of space!
Players can expect between 40 to 50 hours of play time for the game. Just playing through the game minus all the side quests, Sakaguchi managed to take 35 hours.

so we are looking at over 35 hours of game play . With side quests perhaps as much as 50 hours , however you have to change the disc 3 times . To me not a big deal . How about u guys ?
I also wonder if all this room is needed as it would mark the first game to actualyl need more than 1 dvd (no resistance on the ps3 doesn't count )

Ehhh... I'm kind of neutral to it I suppose. Would one disk be preferable? Absolutely, but if it is a good game, than screw it, I say put it on as many disks as they'd like. It certainly wouldn't stop me from buying it. I am curious though if multi-disk games will also garner a higher price tag as well...

This is why I am glad Sony decided to stick with blu-ray(for games), and fight through any setbacks. While this is not a bad thing per se(we have been changing discs for a while now), I do believe it is only the begining.... Could we see games that take up 4-5 dvds as well?

We all knew the multi-disc thing was going to happen. If last-gen games were maxing out a DVD9, this gen can't help but exceed that. I don't personally care about swapping discs, though. We've been doing it for a decade, now.

last gen games were not maxing out dvd 9. Anyway they say this is due to the amount of hd-fmv on the disc.
Here is resistance
Padding file size = 32MB.
Total padding = 1.9GB.
Total FMV = 7GB.
Audio = 2.24GB. (605MB for music and English language only)
Game Assets = 6.12GB.
As you can see from this game . your still under 1 dvd of room with out the added audio from other regions or the fmv .
(this data is not from the joystic article btw its from beyond3d.com http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showpost.php?p=881735&postcount=5)
Its going to be the rare game that uses more than 1 dvd. 3 dvds is going to be so small in terms of releases its not going to matter. Actually it will prob be only the mistwalker games that need more than 1 disc

It won't bother me. 3 Discs and its only 50 hours? Must be a pretty detailed game. Just hope the game does not cost more because of this.

a DVD 9 or DL dvd should only cost them 25 cents or so . A bluray 25 gig disc or SL shoud be around 2-3$ per disc and hd-dvd should fall between dvd and bluray . So it wont add anything to the cost if bluray doens't

Honestly what is the big deal about changing discs? Who really cares as long as the game is good, what difference does it make if its on a bigger storage capcity. I own a PS3 and still dont care how much space blu-ray has, it really makes no difference if I play a game like MGS4 on one disc or on three discs.
This is where Sony fanboys will feel real proud about there system, but to everyone else its not a big deal. If changing discs was a problem Id have never played any of the 4 disc epic RPG games that I grew up with. As for Blue Dragon, it will be a fantastic game and when I do own a 360... this is one game I will 100% be getting.
Sum up: Discs in next-gen is not a big deal, get over it!!

I guess its no bigger of a deal than say....loading times.
Some people care, some people don't. Its just one less thing you have to think about.

Considering it is an RPG I say no problem, sinse it will just be swapping disks twice during the course of the game.

Loading times are a different story, most people can deal with them to an extent, but most people hate em with a passion when their over 4-5 seconds. Plus they pop up almost every five seconds depending on how crappy the company is that made the game.
Now multiple discs is only really insignifigant in the RPG genre, but in any other I would have to say hellz no. (usually because those other genre's don't have long enough games for it to matter)

^ Ive only ever played RPG games with multiple discs. I cant say that I can ever remember playing a game other then REmake and RE4 on the GC that required disc changing.
Food for thought, since when have companies like Sqaure, Capcom, and Konami ever really dropped the ball on their games and made the loadtimes unbelievable to bare?

Anyone knows the U.S. release date? I'm hoping the voice acting is good, if not, just give me subtitles.

hey i have a question about all this swapping. i have no problem with swapping discs at all. i need to move off the couch every once in a while. but how will we do it? if whenever you press the eject button the system resets how will you do it? will you just go back to the dash after a save and swap and then start on the next disc?
just wondering?

^I am pretty sure they will have something that prevents the console from going into the dashboard.

the game software prob over rides the reset .
As for swapping. IF it was a fps where single player was on one disc and multi on another i think i'd be pissed (though i'd learn to live with it ) But on such a long game it don't matter . I played ff 7-9 on multi discs and I played re4 on multi discs and didn't affect anything
