We need to send this bad boy to Sony once we get a good list lol. What they got so far is a nice start for real small fixes in the newest update imo. Just need to work on the bigger stuff. I'm sure they're working on it tho.

Anyway...ur first two are my biggest complaints right now...but I really want custom backgrounds...

I don't own a PS3 yet, but I want them to add the ability to listen to music in the background no matter what you are doing. That is also needed for PSP. After that from what I have read background downloading is sorely needed. Faster Internet Browsing seems to be a big complaint of many people as well. In some ways I am almost glad I have not gotten a PS3 yet, almost.

Seems like a lot of the problems I named are fixed. Can you play music in the back round though? I didn't see that. Other than that it looks like Sony is on the ball.
I still say back round music playing in any situation would kick ass.....

^Yeah I don't think that was added yet, I was just surprised how quick the first firmware came and figured that it wouldn't be long until most of our request are updated...

A zoom function for the internet browser. Some websites (Yahoo) work with larger text, but VBulletin sites as well as places like cnn.com show no change when you try to change the font size. This makes surfing the net difficult. A zoom function with a nice "smooth font" feature would be helpful (so that the font is readable when you zoom in).
Background downloading.
Background music playing always (in game too).
More content on the Playstation store. I thought we'd be getting full movie and album downloads on Nov. 17. My wallet is open. I'm ready to pay. The store is quite limited at the moment. I know they've done more work on this than they're letting on at the moment, perhaps saving major updates for the March re-launch.
A permanent icon on the desktop to show controller charge status (I never remember to push the PS button to check). Perhaps a % charged number rather than the 3 little bars...
Aren't we supposed to see snippets of vids as thumbnails for the movies on the hard-drive? So far it's just the film icon for me. All the promotional vids showed moving snippets... Is it this way for other people?
Ability to edit the "other" music folder. Paul Simon is not "other." =)
Ability to interact with (rotate zoom) the slide show. Those pictures get thrown down, but how cool would it be to be able to pick one up and manipulate it?
How about some cool avatar-building features? Hell, just give me the Tiger Woods character creation system and let me play with that all day... or release some of the tech demos from E3 (Molina, ducks, shooting that car). That might keep me busy while I'm waiting for real Eyetoy integration sometime next year...

-A better way to change online avatar icons.
Some kind of monitor support. I want to play PS3 through HDMI -> DVI on my PC monitor for ease. One major reason I went with PS3 was so I could play it on my monitor in my room without the need of another set.
How about this: Use the PSP itself as a wi-fi online adapter for the 20GB model through USB?
-PS3/PS3 connectivity. I have a friend who also owns a PS3, and would like the two do something fun when together. Like... filesharing over LAN, head-to head battle support, or just... something.
-more visualizers and a way to change between them. So far it seems you can only start a song, and whatever visualizer it picks you are stuck with unless you exit out and re-start the song new.

rsx support for guest os. however doubtful i am about them allowing you to do it.
also open source firmware would be cool but that is even less likely then the British winning the ashes

Don't know if we're talking about the same thing, but you can manipulate the visualizer with the right analog stick... hold it in one direction for a little bit and the visualization will change...

that is actually very smart of you. I never even thought about it. I was thinking a USB Wi-Fi was the only way. I don't know how technically feasible it is, but how hard can it be?
good thinking, Lekko. :)

You will have to solve the problem PSP battery first. Right now it seems you can cannot charge the psp via usb. So I somehow doubt that Sony would go through the trouble to support it.
Besides, PSP has only 802.11b, which is not the exactly the PS3 spec.
I think generic usb wifi adaptor support is the way to go.

Playing music in the background is nice. It would be even better if there was midi support. Modern cards are meh, the high-end models for production is way too expensive (plus certain models are hard to find) so I'm hoping the PS3 can be used. It's got that Cell, I wouldn't mind the RSX being used as well but the Cell alone is good enough. ^_^
Another request - superior backward compatability. I want to be able to up the visuals considering like with the ePSXe. Do that and I'll be enjoy many of the PSX games that I have yet to open like those in the mid-90s. :)

support for 480i via HDMI
or atleast be able to upscale PS1/PS2 games and DVDs

why not just leave it connected to a power source? you are still indoors, right? you can disconnect it if you want to walk around th house with it, but can you use it as a PS3 Wi-Fi router and play some game on it at the same time? if yes, keep it connected or recharge it every now and then.
Playing music in the background is nice.
about custom soundtracks in-game: I really want this feature. I don't want a simple audio curtain on the game. I want to play what ever track I want in the game. X2 has this in-built in the hardware as standard. PS3 should do it with a firmware update.
The ability to charge the controllers while the system is in standby.
@CreativeWriter: I copied a video file from a memory stick to the HDD and it was giving me a moving snippet of the file from the XMB. If I remember correctly, however, I believe it was after I started watching the file and then backed out back to the XMB. Try that.

Does that monitor support HDCP?yep
Lekko

For the whole 'playing it on a PC monitor' issue, that's because my screen is a 19" LCD without HDCP. I think there are only about 2 monitors out right now that are HDCP compliant. The rest just get a black screen when you try to hook it up, like mine.
From what I understand, the PS3 will not initialize and handshake with these monitors because they are not complaint, so it will not output a signal. The monitor detects that there is something there, but you only get black. HDCP is designed so that movies in full high defenition cannot easily be pirated by just plugging the out cable into some type of "video in" box and dubbing, kind of like with old VHS tapes, where you can just hook anything into it and record.
I can understand why they want that for BD movies in 1080p, but what I cannot understand is why that won't work for everything else. Why should a HD copy protection flag have anything to do with a game, or my own photos, or a music visualizer? I mean use the flag if you want, just use it for the things you actually want to protect, not blanket it over everything.
The only logic I can see for them wanting to do this is to better push full HD TV sets out to mass market. If PS3 owners realize that they can just plug it into their PC monitor for a small, but full HD screen, their motivation to go out and buy a huge new set is diminished.
For charging PSP: there's already a cable splitter that takes the USB power feed and data and splits it for the PSP so you can charge and send data over one cable. I bought one, and it works however it is low low quality. Sony could put out a nicer one and a firmware update to allow it to work.

yes a zoom function would be good for the web browser...
--Multitasking abilities should be improved, i.e. music and picture work together, music and the web browser work simultaneously, but why not music and the playstation store?
--And for some strange reason, music doesn't play from one group/folder to the next. It just stays in that folder. That needs to be fixed. The PSP does it, why not the PS3???
--maybe the ps3 should remember the way you last grouped your files in the xmb? by year or date or artist or whatever.
--support for more music and video formats. .mov, perhaps? .wmv would be nice (although i don't expect it), .ogg, .avi, and so on...
--gifs should move.
--and...whatever other bugs there are in the functionality.

Sucks for those people planning to get the most from vista without HDCP compliance.
-- I win again--
And sony...
-Background Downloading
-Upscaling and such
is all I ask (for now) kthxbai.

1) HDCP used only on BluRay/DVD movies... I want to use my new Sony 19"
DVI monitor... I bought it only some month ago... Is it old already :susp: ?
2) More video media format in xmb:
- avi: divx/xvid
- wmv (HD too... it's in the blu rays... it must read them :banned:)
- mov
- real
- and so on :ko:
3) A funcion that I like a lot of the prototype PS3 with 2 HDMi out;
that is the possibility to use the HDMIs for 2 screens...
I think this can be done with HDMI + AVMultiout too.
I want to use my big SDTV to see games, movies etc and my monitor
for Linux things (together :aimhappy: )
4) Some way to link to PCs to read media files on the PC HDD
5) 3d acceleration support (no full RSX support, but partial will be good...
at least to use OpenGl!!!)

no you do not have a old monitor, HDCP is only a new thing.
my 20.1 widescreen monitor doesn't support HDCP either, i didn't want it because I am very much against HDCP and DRM and proprietary standards

Don't expect to be gaming while running Linux, as the games will surely eat all of the available memory leaving little to nothing for Linux.
