The FFXIII video presentation and actual gameplay of FFVII:CC really caught my eye, this should be an interesting two days with some great new stuff shown off.

EDIT: - Square Enix announced they will release a new preview trailer of Final Fantasy Versus XIII on December 8, 2006.

There's more then meets the eye with Square lately... Im liking December a whole lot more now.

Here are some new images of Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for Nintendo DS. A new character named Llyud is revealed. The game will have 2D graphics in 4th quarter perspective, the battles will take place in the fields directly, similar to FFXII, but now you can attack the enemies by simply sliding the stylus on the them.

You can also move the characters with the stylus, up to 4 characters can battle simultaneously. The game will have the Gambit and Mist Quickening systems from FFXII, characters will fight based on conditions set in the Gambit.

Gameplay of Crisis Core!!!! Oh man! I've been waiting for that one! The graphics are so awesome in that game, I want to see Cloud and Zack and all them in slightly sub PS2 graphics!

Glad to see FF XIII will be shown soon. Dec 16 - 17 eh, sounds delicious.

though a playable CC is big news, the show stealer for me is the first ever public view of Versus! I am sure new footage will be out for 13 as well, but what the heck, we've already seen it. Versus is a brand new beast just waiting to be unleashed.

it would be an understatement to say these FF games will be system sellers. hell, people will buy them even if they don't have a PS3. O_o

Well If I remember on the last tetsuya NOmura's interview, they will need to finish the " White Engine " to make it white engine version 2 or 3 for FFXIII versus before to show it again, so maybe next E3 2007 or TGS 2007

both will be shown in video form only. as with the previous video, it will hopefully contain both in-game and high-quality cut-scenes.
I am much more interested in the in-game parts of Versus.

the engine isn't finished, and so the games won't be anywhere near completion. hover, that doesn't mean we can't feast our eyes on some 'work-in-progress'. ;)

I thought the exact same thing lol! The Fire spell looks to act the exact same way as it did in KH. The character models really remind me of the level of detail in KH as well. Very smooth, but very defined edges and lots of detail where there needs to be, like in the hair to get the appearances down really well. The character model bodies also look really good.

What's up with the original Buster Sword owner (what's his name again?) having one wing, but it's white unlike how Seph has 1 black wing (but Safer Seph had white wings...). What's up with that? Very perplexing lol.

They've been really quiet about it, but from what I've heard Final Fantasy Versus XIII is supposed to be an action game [Devil May Cry?] and Final Fantasy XIII is going to be action-rpg [Kingdom Hearts?]. I guess we'll get concrete information when the trailer is released.

I think I would put FF VS XIII as a Kingdom Hearts game, not a DMC game, and FF XIII as a more action oriented FF XII, not a Kingdom Hearts. That's my take.

There damn better be like 10 dif. characters shown in the FF XIII video btw or I'll be pissed haha.

Correct. Versus will be set in a modern world with swords and is more action rpg related. FFXIII will be set in a futuristic world with highly advanced weaponry and magic(magic+weapons=magitek?). That's what we know so far.

Versus XIII = Kingdom Hearts (Not a the same game obviously) but with tie-ins in terms of battle system. "Think" KH without the Disney. But this is 100% a new FF game in theory, and seems to be much more darker world with characters that weild both sword and technologic weapons. It also seems to take place after the events of XIII so whatever happens in the end, may be the result of this game.

XIII = A game close to the style play seen in FFX-2 and XII. Also set in the same world as Versus since that game is a sequel to this one. From what Ive seen from pictures, the girl from this game shares a similar picture theme with the protagonist from Versus. Both sit atop thrones, could they both be king/prince or queen/princess of respective kingdoms? Or perhaps family members?

being developed by the KH team, that is where the similarities end. the devs mentioned KH just give people an idea that the game would be focusing on action more than your expected FF game.

they already said the two games will share the same world. but who said anything about sharing the same time-line?
and your note about having the same illustration in both games with the 'white' and 'black' thrones has been mentioned by the devs again. they said that was an intentional comparison between the two two show off that Versus is a dark/er game, somewhat like the opposite of FF13.

of course, they won't ruin anything about what exactly are the connections, and I sure as hell wouldn't want them too. :)

finally, keep in mind that they devs explicitly said that FF13's only main character may not really be 'the' main character. they said that she could be one of the team members. they showed her in a prominent role to show gamers how deep a character may be even if they aren't the main focus of the game. as with any FF fan can tell you, every member has a story, every member has his weight and effect on the whole world's story of each game. that is one of the things that the excellent FF series is known for.

Who knows for sure, so contemplation and theories are always workable based on that fact a dev will never admit storyline based content this early on as correct. They will always reply that you are wrong or try to debung the theory as not to spoil the end outcome.

hope to god they do. although it wouldn't make a difference since it may only be 24 hours or so before the show (any idea when Famitsu release?) but I'm too big a nut over FF than I admit. any trinkle of news is good news (unless it is anything, and I mean anything, on the story). I hate spoilers to death and back.

I really hope they get the characters as loveable and well drawn out as the characters in FF XII. The characters is FF XII are awesome! I like all of them. They are not super stereotypical but they are not trying to be something super unique or totally new. They're just perfect fits for the story they are in and their personal stories as well.

FF XII, wow @ the in engine cutscenes, those were spectacularly done.

This new girl in XIII gives me the faint idea she's made to be a Terra-like character. Thats the impression I get. She's strong and powerful and looking for the crystals? Who knows...

And the Versus guy... well he looks like he is "wanted" for something by the authorties from what we've seen. He steps out of his throne and castle like home with what looks like some sort of Limit Break taking place. I seriously like this theory of the two of them being sister and brother.

^ I think its a fair assumption at best to imagine XIII and Versus being in the same world. The way I look at it, these two games are trying to make work the connection that X and X-2 tried to create. Since FF games are all in different worlds and what not, this could be a connecting game.

They are NOT set in the same world.

The words that were created for both games are both centered about crystals, and they might share similarities. But they do not take place in the same world or time.

^ Where is the proof of this? As far as this goes I know of no absolute facts of this being the case. As Ive said before whether the dev's say this is untrue I very much doubt they would ever admit to correct guesses... for spoiled plot and other reasons.

EDIT: Also it seems Square is making more compilation titles for Final Fantasy anyway. THese titles are all set in the same world. So here's a small chart of the increase in gaming continuations:

1. Final Fantasy VII - (FFVII:CC, FFVII. FFVII:AC, FFVII:DoC) SAME WORLD
2. Final Fantasy X - (FFX, FFX-2) SAME WORLD
3. Final Fantasy XII - (FFXII, FFXII:RW) SAME WORLD
4. Final Fantasy XIII - (FFXIII, FFVersusXIII, FFXIII:Aigato) SAME WORLD in theory

Now assuming my theory of Versus, Aigato and XIII being in the same world is correct as indicated by Squares recent increase in continuing their own stories set in the same world.

Keep in mind, that Final Fantasy XIII is not a prequel or sequel to the other two FFXIII titles in the traditional sense. As Square Enix explained, the trio is linked through a common mythology but do not have any common characters, worlds, or stories. They all take place in the same universe, but aren't related to each other directly.

See I didnt read that lil piece and it seems it would put my theory to rest... but there's always more to it than that. I had to go through this sort of thing on an old KH2 forum I was on when we knew nothing at all about the game.

I'll be stubborn with you Nova. I know what it says and I still believe it will 100% have this theme in mind... but for all three of the games. Do YOU think they would this early on announce that our friend in Versus has story relations or connections to the girl in XIII? I do not think they would, I could be wrong as I said this is all speculation but I dont believe they would divulge story and characters relations and details at all. Let alone confirmations from speculation.

It's always been theory Nova, as I spoke with Z and he understood clearly. You just havent been around to read it all. Obviously I cant know the real answers but I hope or believe my theory is on the right track, or more so, I want my ideas to be correct. Maybe even form a good amount of the games since the proportion of female users are significantly higher than in '97. ;)

FINAL FANTASY VERSUS XIII Unveiling!!!Yea I hope it isn't anything anti-climatic. Like just showing the same trailer that was shown at E3 being shown to the general public. Not to say that I wouldn't want to see it but i'd much rather see gameplay. My vote..we'll see gameplay. *crosses fingers* Or possibly a teaser trailer since the actual event starts on the 16th and they call it a "preview trailer".
