NICE!! Good find killermmn!! +Rep! It is good that this happened. It gives more credence to PS3 and Sony to have an all new original title for GT than a remade one that everyone who loves GT has played anyways! I am glad this got the axe. Now onto GT5 and all new stuff! it may take longer, but it will kick way more ass. Also, Polyphony needs to to get on the AI ball as well as a complete and complex on-line mode. Get moving guys, NOW!! ;) And great physics would not hurt either guys.....

this is great! this means that GT5 will hold more focus instead of it being shifted to the demo thingies such as HD.
And also now we get a free download demo not one that we have to pay for which is good too.

"GT" + "cancelled" in the same sentence and it's a good thing!
Yeah, I'm glad too. I don't think many people were eager to pay for hi-res PS2 stuff. And we get a free demo instead!

Sony and Polyphony Digital have scrapped plans for a boxed version of Gran Turismo HD for PS3 and now plan to release a GT demo on the PlayStation Store for a limited time instead.
Due out on 24th December, and currently only for Japan, Gran Turismo HD Concept will consist of ten cars and two layouts of a single track according to translations of the announcement and a message from designer Kazunori Yamauchi.
Polyphony now intends to throw all its weight behind Gran Turismo 5 when this is done, although there's the possibility of more "Concept" releases between now and the fifth proper Gran Turismo title's release, which is expected in 2008.http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=21446

Anyway, now that it's cancelled, here's a comparison between GT2000, which was cancelled, and GT3, both for the PS2. I think it's fair to say that the difference between GT: HD and GT5 is comparable to this.

First good move done by Sony since TGS 06.I hope Kaz Hirai would be involved in more smart decisions like this.
making it free instead of charging anything for it- regardless of how low- is obviously great news.
I am also optamistic that by doing this, they will be more focused on the real project. they shouldn't be spending much time or resources on 'an enhanced PS2 game'. I am only interested in GTHD for the PS3 concept alone. I would have never bought a single 'enhanced' PS2 object at all, nor am I interested in this.
now, lets hope they'll make a banging online experience like how a GT game really deserves. and that they'll fix the problems of the series, the crash damage will be at least satisfactory and weather will be properly introduced.

Obviously GT is a franchise that should NEVER be rushed or be handled in a piecemeal approach, so this is a good thing, although I wouldn't doubt we'll see a few concept versions in Japan just to tie people over until the real thing hits.

Eww at GT2000. Gran Turismo 2, for the PS1, looks better than that garbage running on my PC...
Looks like they used the PS1 car models though, kind of like they were doing for GT HD Classic.
Alright, you heard it here for the 150 000th time. GT5 will kick the shit out of every other racer visually, at least that's where my money is.
Here's to hoping they go beyond GT2, for Killing Moon's sake, and to deliver us a much, much bigger game. At least GT4, if not improving on the cars upgrading very much, at least they added a ton of events lol. Come on Polyphony, make the best racer ever!
EDIT: I just compared it actually, that GT2000 pic looks exactly the same as GT2 when it's running on my PC. I think they just ported it and raised the res up a bit, exactly like with GT HD. If the models might be a bit more complicated, they are using the PS1's reflections for the cars for sure.

The boxed, packaged release is canceled. They're stopping where they are and releasing what is done as a concept demo. It's better that they focus on GT5 now anyway, that's what I want, and I'll have an hdtv by then hopefully.

Did you read the first pages of those threads you resurrected? There was plenty of skepticism about the idea of GT:HD. Most just wanted GT5 as soon as possible. I'm not into racing games and have never played GT (blasphemy!), so I don't care much about the news. I was worried, though, about the microtransition thing they were pushing with GT:HD...

Maybe if your point was a bit more civil, I'd actually agree. This here and others spotted in several other GT threads already comes off as if you are purposely searching for trouble.

I never really cared for the concept and I am relieved that they have cancelled GT HD, I would much rather see an increase of rescources on GT5.
And I assure you that I dont pray to Sony :pleased:
If you have a point to make Vlad, perhaps you could do it in a more constructive manner (LOL). I mean coming on a Sony forum and calling people fanboys doesnt exactly do much for originality or approach.

Nobody here liked GTHD Classic mode, which was just GT4 at 1080p60, and it got cancelled along with the microtransactions. However, we're getting GTHD Premium content still, which is totally next gen (GT5's prologue), and we're getting it for free. If you understood otherwise, you're utterly wrong and quickly becoming the most stupid poster in a long while.

VG, I've got a supermod on the case. Bye bye draco.
As for staying on topic, GTHD has been bitched about since it was first shown at E3 with it's HD PS2 graphics and such. So, with that project canned, they can now focus all their time on doing a TRUE next gen GT rather than some rushed half ass job like GTHD. I never once planned on getting that title.

I was wondering why I couldn't -rep him
yeah, this is great news. Like I've said before, I always saw GTHD:GT5::GT2000:GT3 (did I do that right?)
It was underwhelming and used too much old technology coated with new, and was never the true GT5. Also, the microtransactions talk was very lame. Glad to see it'll be a free download too!
*prays to Sony that they'll release it in America too*

oops... I mean... :-pI'm with you man. I'd rather see the game and be blown away the first time i see it rather then see GTHD gradually get better. It would've taken some of the shock out of seeing GT5 for the first time.
if the guy honestly wanted to know why we are excited about this news, he could have asked normally and directly. but he only wanted to take it out on someone. and for whatever reason, he chose a gaming announcement to do it in. sad.
in any case, I might be stating the obvious here, but just in case a guest or visitor finds our reaction rather contradictory to this news allow me to explain in brief:
we have always been very excited about GTHD (the prolouge to PS3's coming hit, not the PS2 touch-up) just for that: it's the early works of the inevitable megaton known as GT5.
we are more excited about the news of the cancellation of the physical platform of the game for three reasons:
1- it is now going to be offered free. although GTHD was going to be offered for a dirt-cheap price point, 'free' is still less. now we won't have to pay a dime for it.
2- now they can focus more on what all this is about, which is the full fledged GT5.
3- more gamers will have access to it. just open a free Japanese account and you can be sitting there playing it this month. the same goes for the rest of the world regardless of where the game is 'officially' released for download. some may say that they could have ordered it online, but that would get in the way of the first point which is price. why pay for what you can get for free? that and not many people order oversees.
finally, even IF the whole preview concept work is canceled, we would still be interested in every trickle of news and every new pic that we can grab since this is, again, the work in progress of what will inevitably be GT5.
this is no different from following every piece of news on MGS4, FF13 or others till the full games get released respectively.
GTHD or no GTHD: it is all about teasers and long waits till the real deal gets here.
PS. we need to merge all the GT threads.

LOL, don't worry Z, he's been banned. I also explained the situation earlier in this thread.
I agree on the merging though, but it's just that the lowlife resurrected old GT threads just to laugh at us, and he didn't succeed.
