View Full Version : Playstation 3 Availability. Any Updates?

Does anyone here have any updates about the availability of the PS3? Is it still selling out the moment stores get new units or can individuals (with a little luck) go to a Walmart or other retail outlet and pick one up?

Normally, I would not think there would be a PS3 anywhere to be purchased do to the demand. But if the Wii is selling well it might *slightly* slow down the demand for PS3's temporarily.

Does anyone have any information on this matter?

I've asked around, and many retailers still think they won't get another shipment until next year. I disagree, but you know how it goes. I'd estimate around the middle of Feb. for a decent supply.

Where do you live ? The Best Buy here had 2 shiptments since last week.

I wouldn't mind having to wait till next year, but if I did see a PS3 in store (like one of the forum members on NG.com did) then I would snatch it up immediately, I bet. :)

Frosty,

I really like your new signature!

The last I checked Sony claimed to be sending 100,000 units a week to the USA. It seems if that's the case they should be getting at least some units on a regular basis.

There are weekly shipments for a lot of places in NA but also some left in the dark (or so they say). They may still need to fulfill preorders.

Let me be frank with all of you. I would love to get my PS3 by Christmas. I have a friend that I don't get to see too often and if I can get the PS3 by then the two of us are planning to spend a few days doing nothing but playing games together on it. He is taking time off for the Christmas holiday's (normally he works ALL the time) and it might be one of the few chances we would have to play together for an extended period of time.

I'm just hoping Omega will be able to find me one before Christmas, but if not I'm not complaining because I'm just thankful for Omega's generosity.

The problem is, your story is about the same as MILLIONS of other people around the world. Everyone wants it by Christmas, which is making it quite difficult to actually pull it off.

Walmarts got theres in today. Atleast the walmart here did. My friend had a raincheck from them and they called him up and he went and got it. We then played some resistance in HD. It is nice.

But I can't help but desire my multi-day long Playstation gaming fest with my friend I hardly get to see these days.

Can't you and your friend meet up and do something else? Seems a little off that the two of you really want to meet up on the basis of playing the Playstation 3 together...

My friend pretty much does not have a life. He has a wife and two kids that drive him absolutely nuts. His wife is very controlling and there is very little she will allow him to do. One of the very few things that we can do together is occasionally get together and play video games. She seems to leave us alone if we are busy with that.

You're being paranoid about absolutly nothing

90% of future consumers never intended to buy the PS3 within its 1st year, and I would say 75% have no intention of buying a PS3 for 2 or more years.

Once FF, MGS, GT, and other notorious PS system sellers start coming out there will be a huge change. Add in a price break or 2 and it will be business as usual for the PS

In Toronto, most stores don't even the Wii available let alone PS3s. This includes large chains like Best Buy, Futureshop,, Walmart, Zellers, etc. If the first two doesn't have them then most won't. I'll be calling in some smaller brick n' mortal stores to check out the status down there.

Woah woah woah!!!

MILR, you are getting one for free?! And you are still not being patient?! Man if someone said "I'll get you a free PS3 in mid 2007" I'll probably do a lap around the world naked!

Anyway I just found it a bit selfish that you want to get your free PS3 quicker to play it with your friend when many other customers (paying and probably in more need of one) are doing laps around the USA to try and find one. Sorry if I misunderstood the case.

Everything should be pumping and going before March. Since that is the reason why I think they delayed Europe as they are hoping to REALLY pump production by March.
The great news is that not many PS3s are faulty so better slow and perfect than fast and broken...No innuendos intended.

frosty
12-03-2006, 01:55 AM
In all honesty, due to supply and financial constraints, I would expect for all winners of the PS3 contest to get their units by the time of the european launch.

masteratt,

I find your post offensive. Did you see me screaming, "OMEGA GIVE ME MY PS3 NOW!"

Of course not! I'm being patient? Did you even read my posts? Yes, of course I want my PS3 sooner rather than later. Woundn't anybody? But I'm I demanding to get it ASAP? Of course not. Am I demanding anything? No!

I'm simply curious about when PS3's will become more available and stating what I would "like" to see happen, but obviously not demanding anything. Did you see me telling OMEGA or anyone else that I "MUST HAVE IT" by Christmas? Of course not. I'm just saying it would be nice. There is nothing wrong with that.

If it takes six more months to get my PS3 I won't be angry or upset. Obviously, it's FREE! And I'm very thankful for my PS3!

I'm simply discussing possibilities, when more units might be available, discussing ideas, and hoping for the best. I'm not AT ALL demanding anything.

You just tremendously offended me for not even reading my posts and assuming I'm demanding something when I'm not.

frosty
12-03-2006, 02:01 AM
No need to be offended, it was simply a misunderstanding. Just as Masterratt said, Sorry if I misunderstood the case.We will get all of the PS3's out as soon as we can. All 6 of them.

I saw a 20GB PS3 sitting all by it's lonesome today in a local Zellers (Canadian store). One of the local EB Games stores had a PS3 and Wii in demo booths. But for all my looking no one had any Wii's or PS3's other than the one I already mentioned.

My buddy Bobbitt, just picked on up at the local Cir. City store. He said they got six in and he got the last one. He said that they arent being put out on display and one has to ask the sales person. It seems reasonable to believe that stores are getting a steady trickle of consoles in, if one is diligent enough they can find one at a major retail outlet.:)

I found found 60 Wii shipments in a Toysrus today! Only, there was 80 people in the line before I got there:-(

She told me the PS3 is even more scarce-comparing it to a pot of gold. If you have it, your like the talk of the neighborhood..lol

I'm gonna find one though!!! I'm sick and tired of looking at my Zelda case with nothing to play it on..

Sony still on track for 2 million units this year. :)
Sony still planning to ship 2m PlayStation 3 units by 2007

Position of games within corporation is "larger than ever"

Sony Corporation has said it is still on track to ship 2 million PS3 units by the end of the year, despite manufacturing problems and a failure to meet the day one shipment target for North America.

Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo, Sony president Ryoji Chubachi said, "It is true that it took us some time to bring the PS3 to mass production as blue laser availability worked as a bottleneck."

However, he went on to observe that sales of the console are meeting Sony's expectations, adding, "I don't think we need to revise our shipment targets... 2 million and 6 million are within our reach.''

Sony originally planned to ship two million consoles for the launch of PlayStation 3, with a further two million by the end of the year.

But in September that forecast was slashed, with Sony pledging 400,000 consoles for the US launch, 100,000 for day one in Japan and a global figure of 2 million by 2007 - with a further 4 million to follow by March next year.

According to research firm Enterbrain, around 88,400 systems made it to Japan in time, while NPD reported that less than 200,000 PS3s were on the shelves for the North American launch. SCEA's David Karraker later confirmed plans to ship 1 million consoles to the territory by the end of the year.

Chubachi went on to discuss Sony's recent executive reshuffle, stating that it was designed to signal a shift in focus towards software development and marketing for what's becoming an ever-more important part of Sony's business.

"With the PS3 launch, the entire game industry will expand. Its positioning within the Sony group is larger than ever," he said.

Chubachi also confirmed that Sony still plans to post a 5 per cent operating profit margin for the fiscal year beginning April 2007. He added that there is no change to the expected cost of a laptop battery recall, which stands at 51.2 billion Yen (330 million Euro).

I was able to walk into Target the other day and pick up a 20gb ps3 by using this site.

www.itrackr.com

It checks stock at local stores for you. All you have to do is enter your zip code and it will tell you if its in stock or not. I have heard reports that EB/GS stock is a little off but everything else if VERY accurate. I picked up the last ps3 at target and when i got home i checked it again just for kicks and it said 'Out of Stock.' very reliable. good luck

Heads up...

http://crunchgear.com/2006/12/14/amazon-unleashing-onslaught-of-wiis-and-ps3s-soon/

We’ve just received information from a reliable source that Amazon will soon have the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PlayStation 3 readily available. There is no specific date currently set, but it will be “in the coming days.”

So if you’ve been checking back at your local Best Buy every day or contemplating paying a premium for a system on Ebay, you might want to consider giving it sometime. The Amazon systems will surely be offered at MSRP and given the nature of the information, it sounds like there are plenty of systems.

As always, we’ll keep you posted as more develops on this.

Yeah I doubt it's cuz no one wants one. People do want them. My roommate who just moved in talked to me about saving up for one, cuz he's trying to get one too. I mean, you can't look at anything sitting on shelves the month after christmas shopping season and be like, 'ooohh snap it's teh suxorz'. People got bills. And people do come in or call in to EB asking about them whenever I visit. They're just surprised they're actually in stock.

demand is not low for the units, here in Aus, everyone at school talks about saving up for one, or getting it of their folks, rest assured demand is very high, the only two reasons for the small amount on shelves is the lack of money in consumers wallets and the lack of AAA games. (both will be no problem come march) developers knew their would be limited customers with the money to buy the console at this time so they pushed their games back to march in the hope of making more profit from a successful launch.
