I mean, seriously Sony, wtf is that? It'd be one thing if it was just some random blog with a guy who doesn't know how to type, but why is he actually advertising advertisements? No one who types like that could create such a cohesive website and pay for hosting and a domain name, and then create full-page pdf print ads, iron-on t-shirt designs, and he CERTAINLY wouldn't have separate instructions for PC and mac users for downloading a video.

This is even worse than Nintendo's Metroid Prime 2 viral site from a few years ago, and that was pretty blatant.

All Sony Computer Entertainment wants for Christmas is a good marketing staff.

The link won't work for me, but it can't be worse than those British Xbox360 ads where it was like "a'ight we are homies who use 360's i can play games and movies on it when i'm not wif da ladiez or breakin' i like ta chill wif a lill 360 a'ight?"

Or this ad for Officeworks on tv that is to the tune of "Joy To The World" but is a list of their products and prices that is really clever but makes me want to smash in an infant's face with a plastic hammer.

Or worse yet, those PSP ads that were like Mexicans or something. They were terrible.

Edit: Works now. You could always email then and see what they do. Like, mention the square button breaking and if they're all "NO PSPS ARE BEAUTIFUL YOU CAN'T CRITICIZE AN ARCHITECT BECAUSE I AM AN ARTIST" then we know it's viral marketing.

I don't really think there's actually any question as to whether or not it's sony's own doing.

Now thats a unhealthy amount of fail. It seems everytime I go online theres more bad news about Sony. (http://angrysonyfanboy.ytmnd.com/)

I don't really think there's actually any question as to whether or not it's sony's own doing.

There is no way on the site to contact them, therefore it has to be viral marketing. Should probably turn down the subtlety.

edit: Also interesting that there's been no posts in two weeks, so they've cut and run, but for some reason the site is still up (I typoed "shite" twice trying to write that sentence. Freudian slip?)

edit2: the more I look at the site the more I come to the conclusion that someone at sony was bored at work and made the "all i w[]nt f()r Xmas is /\ psp" thing with the symbols, and nobody told him it was a stupid idea.

edit3: GAH! :(

I can't believe I'm still going to buy a ps3 next year.

edit4(four?): Sony could actually not make any press releases in '06, ever, and it would raise ps3 sales because of relative marketing success.

As much as I respect Sony...Well now I respect them MUCH less.

This is going to take a while for me to get over *sigh*

PS: MADDOX IS YOUR GOD (except for his last 5 updates)
I've seen him quoted/ linked in few threads now

Apparently I wasn't the only one to figure it out.

Busted. Nailed. Snagged. As many of you have figured out (maybe our speech was a little too funky fresh???), Peter isn't a real hip-hop maven and this site was actually developed by Sony. Guess we were trying to be just a little too clever. From this point forward, we will just stick to making cool products, and use this site to give you nothing but the facts on the PSP.

What's the matter, Kaphwan? You don't look happy? Why?
Oh, Ken, you know!
But you got those AAA titles on PS2, didn't you get what you wanted?

All I want for Christmas is my PS3
My PS3, see my PS3
Gee, if I could only have my PS3,
Then I could say "I'm in the Next Gen"

It seems so long since I could say,
"Kuturagi's not a goddamned nutcase"
Gosh, oh gee, how happy I'd be
If they'd give him a muzzle.

All I want for Christmas is a PS3
A PS3, play a PS3
Gee, if I could only play a PS3
Then I could say "I'm in the Next Gen"

It seems so long since I could say
"Holy crap the specs on this are awesome"
Gosh, oh gee, how happy I'd be
To play PS3 in a foursome.

Oh, all I want for Christmas is the PS3
The PS3, own the PS3
Gee, if I could only own a PS3
Then I could pretend I don't miss Rumble.

I was going to do this for PSP but.. then again, who the hell wants a PSP for Christmas?

oh, and obviously to the tune of "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth", by Alvin and the Chipmunks

Zipatoni made these ads, not Sony. Sony obviously wasn't doing any quality control though. However, now that it was brought to attention, it doesn't surprise me to see the site pulled. How lame.

Man, that was the lamest thing I've ever seen....

We are talking about the Penny Arcade cartoon, right?

They need a new marketing company. That sucked wang.

Their problem is that they try to be too hip, or whatever you want to call it. From the beginning to their PSP commercials with the squirrels all talking ghetto and shit. Nobody cares about how cool your advertisement really is, they just want a good product.

"PSP Ads. It's cheese, you can put on the air"

I miss the PS1 commercials. Those were the best.

Sony's marketing has gone to shit as of late.

My mate just sent me an e-mail about this. The site doesn't work for me anymore, but this copy of it does
http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/sonylieblog/default.aspx.htm
The video on there doesn't seem to work either, but I think this is it.

He also sent me this parody of the site

Pretty good. Got me a kickarse wallpaper from there! :)

They are attempting to "hip" or something, and failing miserably. The saddest part about it is the fact that it has to be working or they would've changes tactics, that implies people....um well I don't think that deserves words.....

Sony hasn't lost their ability to make a kick ass commercial. Take a look at the ads on playb3ony.com. They are simply amazing.
