...for no reason at all. it did the same thing on my previous monitor, but hardly ever. it works fine when i run other things like my 360.

i am guessing its the video card. i have 2 nvidia 6800 cards running through SLi.

does anyone know a cure to this problem?

remove one of the cards and see if it works, if not then try the same with the other card.

So i am assuming this happens at startup?

no. just randomly it will just go to a purple screen... and occasionally it will go out of it if i dont do anything for a while.

It sounds to me like all of the pins are not making a connection properly. Is it DVI? RGB is a bit easier to diagnose, but I see the purple screen when my cable isn't plugged in properly. Check the pins on the connector and make sure one of them isn't bent or anything like that. Something is preventing your monitor from recieving all of it's image data.

i use to use DVI with my old monitor, and it wasnt nearly as frequent. Now I am using VGA, and it will happen like once a day. ill check it out.

my folks had an issue like this a few years ago but we fixed it by getting a new cable.

i guess i must be doing something wrong as it has done it with both cables.

did you try removing them from sli to see which card may be faulty?
