I was thinking about the possibilities if Sony open up the PS3, then I remembered the Playstation home dev kit that they were going to support and bring out some bedroom coders like in the good old days?
So what happened, did they abandon it?
Is it impossible for the bedroom programmer these days or are they stuck on PCs ?

It could have to do with the PS3 being a nightmare for smaller developers. I can't imagine what it would be like working on it myself.

Actually, it isn't. If you are trying to run a monster $30 million dollar budget graphically intensive blockbuster, you'll need to know your stuff, but take a look at fl0w. That game was written as a thesis, and is now coming to PS3 as well. All of their online distribution games can be programmed to only use one core (so it's just like coding for old-school games pretty much) and still have plenty of power to do whatever you want with it.
