Rumor: Best Buy Holding More PS3s for NYE?

BEST BUYWe've heard from a couple sources that Best Buy will once again be "trapping stock" in anticipation of... well, probably just running their weekly ad, promising to have dozens of PlayStation 3 consoles on hand to satisfy demand. This means, if you're looking for a last minute PS3 this weekend, you might better be served looking elsewhere.

We hear that each Best Buy location will have upward of 60 PS3s on hand for Sunday, December 31. No details on the 60GB to 20GB ratio, though. Regardless, get your tents and sleeping bags out from the attic and definitely do not bring cash. Pepper spray, maybe.

When I was inquiring about Wii last week at my local bestbuy, the employee said they would have about 83 PS3 but did not mention when. So if this rumors are true, then one last push before christmas..

I went to target to get some gifts, and they had one 20 gig ps3 on the shelf. About 45 minutes later the 20 gig was still there and a 60gig appeared.

I wouldn't be surprised, there have been an influx of units online as well, those got sold within the same day though. My guess is they're trying to flood the market with as many units as they can muster, still not enough to meet the demand though, but it's a good thing that they seem to have gotten past their manufacturing snags.

Best Buy's in my area had PS3's today; not sure how rapidly they sold or how many, but doubtless they're gone now. I wouldn't be surprised if they had more tomorrow or after Chirstmas. Whatever is going on at leats seems to indicate that the PS3 production is beggining to approach the million a month originally targeted by Sony.

I saw a PS3 carried and put aside somewhere by a Best Buy employee today, near the front checkout desk.

At least compared to the launch numbers.

I went to work at 6pm to discover that my Best Buy had 100 ps3's in stock 70 60gigs and 30 20gigs we opened at 8am and the last ps3 was sold around 2:30pm... nobody called me needless to say I :matrix: some of my co-workers.

To make up for it they showed me the 70 60gigs in the back that they have to hold till december 31st and they expect more throughout the week.

Looks like i'm getting a ps3 before new years

Niiice...so you only had the 30 20 gigs for sale? And you have to hold the 70 60 gigs until the 31st? Thats weird. Or am i missing something?

Would that mean Sony would reach its stated goal? It would be an awesome news, having fixed the production problem

Not sure how populate your area is but I can't seem to find a single PS3 on shelves where I live. That's saying something when you have several Wal-Marts, Best Buys, and Toys R Us near you. :smoke: Christmas shopping is outrageous over here. But there is some good new to it all; about 15 minutes after I made it to the closest Wal-Mart near by (about 5 miles out,) the last PlayStation 3 had been sold around 5pm. It was the 60GB version, too. Since they get them in regularly (sometimes several shippments in one day,) my chances of getting one before the year is out are becoming much greater than what I had originally anticipated.

Same here too, missed Wii on last Sunday, never seen one PS3 in the shelves... all the PS3 I have seen is the demo unit. I am still looking for Wii, PS3 got it online after I missed the Sonystyle $600 no bundle deal

Kinda makes sense. You want last minute shoppers to storm your store .. and they'll be desperate so they won't be price shopping. The haters will blame Sony tho.

I am in east sacramento, and the city its in has about 60-80k people, the cities around are between 20-40k, and theres a lot of them. I would say between atleast quarter to a half million people are in a realistic driving distance to that store, and even more so that are desperate enough to drive the extra 5-10 miles.

edit - quoted the wrong quote.

If I were not in the mountains skiing this weekend, I would take a shot a the nearest Best Buy to see if I can snag one for my brother before Christmas. But maybe I can get lucky and snag one passing thru Sacto cuz I know I wont find one in the Bay Area. But then again, they've been supplying the major metro areas more than these outlying areas, so SF may still be a better bet in the long run.
