I never watch hockey nor do I really like the sport, but this is a hilarious smear campaign for the all-star game by a guy who from what I heard isn't very good, smearing some of the best players in the game....i saw this on around the horn earlier....and also IT'S A JOKE so don't take this seriously but i'm going vote for this guy

I'm so tired of the Vote for Rory campaign, it's been going on for months now, I'm not voting for him, there's far better defensemen than him.

On a side note, I can't believe it's found it's way to the mainstream media now.

He may not be the best defenceman in the Western Conference. He may not even be the best defenceman on the team. But Rory Fitzpatrick is a solid, hard working D-man, who will give it his all, night after night. If the All Star Game voting was determined on who had the most heart, his would be near the top. Great guy. And he's a Vancouver Canuck too. Woo-hoo!

Still though, he's not an allstar. This is why players should vote for the allstars instead of the fans. The fans have essentially just given the management a reason to take awya their say.

It may have been a joke early on, but now the guy is second in the West in Dmen votes. That's not funny, that's embarassing. The guys played like 60 career games over 5 seasons in the NHL.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see the fan voting disappear next season because of this travesty.

Actually, he's dropped to third now. Even if Rory makes it to the big game, he still hasn't decided whether or not to go. But if even if he does, the NHL has stated that they will let him play. More to the point, they don't seem all that concerned about it.

Think of it this way. The NHL does a horrible job at promoting the game in the United States. Attendance is down at all games in the United States. Some teams, like St. Louis, play to half empty arenas. TV ratings are almost non-existant. The league is in horrible shape. This campaign has brought media attention that it lacks. If Rory goes, it would give the NHL a much needed PR boost that they have lacked for years. Why would would the NHL want to ruin that?

I agree with you, Rory isn't much of an all star. As a matter of fact, I would rather have someone like Mattias Ohlund go instead. But the Vote for Rory campaign has garnered far more interest in the NHL than it ordinarily would.

As for fan voting, you have a point. However, the problem is not with the fans, but with the way the voting is structured. When you allow a fan to vote several times for a candidate, there is something wrong with the system. Ironically, many of those who voted for Rory, did so to point out the flaws in the balloting system. Seems like they made themselves heard.

Actually, he's dropped to third now. Oh, excuse me.

Even though it's been a good bit of publicity, and it may get a few new fans, as a purist fan of the sport, this is not the way to do it. He's simply not an allstar. The allstars themselves should be attracting the attention that this guy is getting by their skill. I just think it's bad. So when people think of the nhl allstar game they think of this? Remember what happened when baseball had a tie allstar game? I see this in league with that.

Okay, fair enough, I guess. :) My point was that, given the dismemberment of the game by Gary Bettman, it couldn't really hurt.

This just in: The Vancouver Sun is reporting that Rory Fitzpatrick did NOT receive enough votes to earn an all-star spot.

I'm a Rangers fan and all, but...can somebody please tell me how the hell Marty isn't starting for the Eastern Conference?

Buffalo fans are too strong.

I think Miller is starting right? They both deserve to be there, but yes Marty should be starting. I mean he got win 600 this year.

Thank god. And Luongo is starting. That's cool. He turned it on lately, that had to help him so much.

I wouldn't have a problem with Miller starting if Marty wasn't better in every statistical category for goalies.
