Hi, I just bought a new 720p hdtv to get ready for my ps3. Im just wondering if anyone could post a ps3 game in 720p and 1080p because Im kinda regretting of not getting a 1080p hdtv now. I just wanna know how big of a difference is there and if I 720p is worth playing a ps3 on. thanks

wow, nice. Only thing, your 1080p and 1920x1080 res pics are less than 2 megapixel in size, so the image MUST look better irl. nice contribution though.

^not true. I have a 1680x1050 monitor, and can clearly tell the difference, even with the 400k or so pixels I'm missing from full 1080p.

I'm looking forward to a 32" 1080p HDTV at a relatively affordable price around 2008. I have no doubt I will be able to tell the difference with my current 26" 720p one.
The question is: SED, OLED, evolved LCD? Or something else?

Flat panel display market research company DisplaySearch, an NPD Group Company, has forecasted that prices for LCD HDTVs will drop upto 40% throughout 2007. The mass price for a 32-inch LCD panel could drop down to $290 resulting in a 32-inch LCD HDTV to cost a bit less than $400.
DigiTimes got word from several LCD HDTV manufacturers that by end of next year, a 42-inch LCD HDTV could drop to $999 while a 37-inch could reach a new price low down to $799.

I was on a low budget so I couldnt get a 1080p set =[
I hope there isnt a big difference between 720p and 1080p. I have never seen anything in 1080p yet so I cant judge by myself.

720p = 921600 pixels. 1080p = 2,073,600 pixels. That's 1,152,000 pixels more.

I wish I could take picture for you but it is a huge difference.
We started watching V then I realised it wasn't displaying 1080p, after the update we started it again and the difference was amazing.

I think more importantly is when we will see HDMI 1.3 integration. I'm going to CES this year and hopefully they have some plan.

They have Bravia X Series TVs in Kiwiland now for 9000NZD(6,201.9USD). I look at them then cry a bit, 1080p native baby, two hdmi ports, lovely. Then you think, wait a minute...
9000 BUCKS FOR A FRIGGIN' TV! NO ****ING WAY!!! :)
Happy with my Bravia V Series. :) 1080p SED/OLED with PS4 ftw.

Really?!? That much in AUS? What size is that because where I work the 40" XBR2 is 2599USD. I like the X series but I think the V series is a better buy.

Oooh you sexy beast....
Boxing day sale, -20%: 6,399.96 NZD
When it comes down to $3000 I'll nab it. :) Maybe not as it's probably too big. I play a lot of retro, 32 inch is perfect for me.
The Bravia V series I have now started at 5400NZD and I sat and waited until it was $3000.

I can't wait for my new TV to arrive this week. I decided to spend a little extra cash and go big and 1080P so that the TV will last me a good few years. This is the one I bought:

HOLY CRAP!! I just went on AVSF to look up hdmi 1.3 and now they have resolution of up to 1440p!! ARGHHH!!!! My reasonable side says get a 1080p set now and screw 1.3, but my techie side says if you don't get 1.3 you fail at life.
HDTV is so frustrating and its putting my plan of getting a PS3 off(as I refuse to play it in SD).

1080p does look better but there is a tremendous amount of difference when considering viewing distance an pq quality. When sitting typical viewing distance from a basic tv setup the difference isnt as outstanding as marketing would have us believe (although it is there). The most noticeable difference would be with pc monitors and the nearness of the observer. As far as this goes we are currently seeing pc monitors at almost double the res. of current 1080p sets (for about 1300usd).

I bought a JVC 56'' rear projection LcOS 1080p. I had about $2200 to play with. I have read that for there to be a difference you had to go with 50'' or bigger. So I guess bigger is better, at least in the case of tv,s. The tv was on sale for 1900 at best buy plus 4 year warrenty and an HDMI lets not forget about tax that put me at about $2500.
NBA2K7 looks great, I dont know if I were to see it at 720p If I would see the difference but it looks great just the same. HD programming is only in 720p or 1080i I dont think you will see 1080p anytime soon, something about it takes a lot of bandwidth.
I would not have bought the tv had it not been for the ps3. Now im wondering if there has been an increase in HD tv sales (mainly 1080p sets) or Blu-Ray movies now as there are more ps3's being shipped every week.

I have read that for there to be a difference you had to go with 50'' or bigger.Everytime you see this, just remember that you're going to see a difference as long as your eyes can, and don't believe random people on forums or anywhere else when they say that you need X inches to tell the difference. I see a difference on 17" monitors and smaller when changing resolutions and I'm not talking about the size of text and icons.
HD programming is only in 720p or 1080i I dont think you will see 1080p anytime soon, something about it takes a lot of bandwidth.Huh? Something else you read? There are PS3 games running at 1080p already, and mind you, PS3 runs them at 1080p natively, no upscaled crap here. RR7 and NBA 2K7, for instance. GTHD concept demo runs at 1080p and 60 frames per second and you can download it now for free. Lair and Virtua Tennis will be released next spring and will run at 1080p too. I would expect the same for many first party games.

Isn't it also true that Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies are 1080P? I'm sure I heard that they are.
I have read that for there to be a difference you had to go with 50'' or bigger. If you're going to be sitting a long way back from the screen then maybe you need a huge screen to notice the difference, but my room is tiny so I'm sure I will notice a difference on my 42" telly and had I gone for the 37" model I'm sure I would still be able to tell the difference between 720P and 1080P.
Now im wondering if there has been an increase in HD tv sales (mainly 1080p sets) or Blu-Ray movies now as there are more ps3's being shipped every week. I've heard that Blu-ray movies have not been selling any better than normal, but that is apparently down to most PS3's being kept under the tree as christmas presents. Now that xmas is over it is expected blu-ray movies will overtake hd-dvd movies quite quickly in terms of sales.

"HD programming is only in 720p or 1080i I dont think you will see 1080p anytime soon, something about it takes a lot of bandwidth".
Sorry, I meant cable channels broadcasting in HiDef.
I know about the games in 1080p as I have NBA2K7, RR7, Ultimate Alliance and have downloaded GTHD. VG you mean I didn't need to go big screen to see the difference. I could have gone smaller and gotten a flat screen. I've gotta stop buying into what I read all the time...

I know this may sound crazy, but Ive got an HDTV that supports 720p and 1080i, and I can tell the difference between the two when I play GoW. Of course I didnt get such a hot deal on the TV, but oh well thats what I get for being impatient. Im looking into getting a larger one when the prices crash later on next year.

VG you mean I didn't need to go big screen to see the difference. I could have gone smaller and gotten a flat screen. I've gotta stop buying into what I read all the time... :doh:Yeah, definately. You'll see members of this forum agreeing that the difference is noticeable indeed on smaller screens. Ask frosty and he'll say he surely can tell the difference from 720p to intermediate resolutions up to 1080p on screens smaller than 56" and even less than half of that, and he's an AV expert so he really knows what he's talking about. It depends entirely on your eyes and the viewing distance, really.
Don't feel bad, man. I'm sure you have an awesome huge 1080p HDTV :thumbl: It's not like you'd get the same experience with a smaller TV either! Now go and brag about it! Beware of burglars though :-p
frosty

When sitting a good distance away (>5ft.) the difference will be less noticeable. However, at closer distances you will clearly be able to tell even on a smaller screen.

hah, i doubt 1080p would bother me much on a 19" screen. Maybe the 50" downstairs but i barely get play time on that. Plus PS3's custom resolution should give me a 1440x900 resolution, or will my tv have to scale it
