Resident Evil 5 expected in 2008 (http://palgn.com.au/article.php?title=Resident+Evil+5+expected+in+2008&id=6328&sid=b2a4081439bf18041d6b96355c9077d1) That sucks if its true.

Vague news pieces and limited screenshots have plagued the upcoming supergame Resident Evil 5, for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It's hot off the heels of Resident Evil 4, PALGN's highest rated game ever, and one of the single greatest games ever made. It's a pretty daunting task to live up to the standard of such a winner, and the producer of Resident Evil 5 is surely making everyone wait for the goods.

Speaking to Famitsu in Japan, producer Jun Takeuchi commented that the team was still early in production - storyboarding, to be precise. They'd better get their behinds into gear, as Takeuchi is also quoting some stellar goals. Evidently the team is aiming for 60 frames per second with dynamic environmental interaction, meaning that the surrounding temperatures will play a significant role in-game.

RE4's graphics were unreal for the time, and RE5 is well on the way to matching that same success. Takeuchi mentioned the game engine, which will be capable of creating muscles in character's faces which enable extremely realistic expressions, and even hair will be modeled painstakingly from root to tip. It seems difficult to get excited about hair, but in this day and age, every pixel counts. :wank:

Considering we've seen nothing about it so far besides the teaser trailer, I wasn't expecting it anytime soon.

Well, shit. That sucks. I guess there isn't much reason to be surprised, but still.... As long as the game comes out great, as it likely will if RE4 is any indication, it's worth the wait. I'd prefer that they take their time making it outstanding.

2008 was a likely bet, considering the circumstances. I'm sure the wait'll be worth it, especially if some of their ideas considering the environment shake out.

I think it's great that developers are taking their time to really learn multi-threading with the new consoles before releasing their flagship titles. The publishers could cash in and rush these titles to market, but it's better to take your time and release a quality product and the install base is increased to drive profits... Peace

PS: I know everyone wants a large library of games for the PS3 ASAP, but it's going to take time for the library to build. Also, considering the high production cost I doubt we will see games released frequently until the install base can support the titles. It's imperative that Sony get's the backward compatilbility running better on the PS3 to increase the library of titles!
Perhaps they can offer software emulation for all the blockbuster titles like God of War 2, Final Fantasy XII, etc.
