What do you mean "doesnt support"???

Are you saying that your PS3 wont recognize the connection (or the other way around).

If anything try running through a router that may work, surely the router would be recognized and its extensions would as well. Although I strongly suggesting getting more feedback before trying this.

Im with wounding try splitting your connection with a router. BTW you should toss AOL and get a real ISP.

Is the AOL connection offering enough bandwith for broadband (that may be an issue) although that sounds unlikely.

It is a form of DSL correct??

If he has dial up (some people call that "aol") then it's a no go for online. Broadband only. If you do have broadband, tell me the model of the PLC network setup you have and I'll try to find a fix.

Mighty, The post above are correct, if you are using AOL dialup it's a no go with the PS3. I would recommend picking up a router and look into DSL or cable broadband service. Once you obtain the proper bandwidth you can continue to use your Powerline setup for home networking... If you currently have highspeed internet it's not an ISP issue you may need to open the proper ports on your router.

If you can provide more details we can provide more answers... Peace

I have aol broadband so that's not an issue. i talked to an aol service rep and he said that through aol you can't get online with the ps2 and the ps3 so i tried anyways and at first it souldn't get the ip address etc.. so i manually put the ip address in and it worked but then it says that it can't establish a connection, how do i open up the proper ports on my router.

you'll have to read it's manual to find out how to enter it's setup menu. Normally the address is 192.168.1.1, but you'll need to figure out it's default usrname and pwd. And for god's sake, ditch AOL. There are much better broadband alternatives available.

^^ Is AOL providing a static IP address?

Typically ISPs do dynamic IPs because consumers have no real need for a public static address...
(Also, it cost the ISP more money for public IPs) The reason I'm asking is because if you manually enter the IP and it's dynamic you may run into problems once you are assigned a different address from your ISP. If you need all the network settings go to the command prompt on your PC and type (ipconfig /all) this will give you all your network info (i.e. IP & Gateway) Also, go to the playstation forums and do a search for ports, you should find some threads providing the ports you need to open on your router. (most routers are good to go by default)
First make sure you can provide all the proper information for a manual network config before you start screwing with your router. If all else fails get rid of AOL broadband it's ridiculous they don't support online gaming...

If you need additional help PM me and I can provide assistance. Peace

Also if AOL does use static I.P's you will have to set it up manually, and the only way to do that is to contact AOL and find out what the I.P. address is, and your Primary and Secondary DNS server addresses.

^ Correct... Cable is really easy to set up no PPPoE crap to deal with like DSL... Also, Bill all the guy has to do is an "ipconfig /all" to get the information needed he should not need to call AOL to obtain his static IP, unless they use private IPs with NAT and provide the public static IP at that point...
(That would be an odd set up for an ISP, but some cellular carriers assign IPs in that manner...)

Nameless that may work, but the last time I had to deal with charter, in setting up a router the IP address the computer had was not the IP the router had.

Yeah, cable is just "plug and play" basically.
