I dont have a big enough memory stick and connecting both via USB seems to have been a waste a well. Can I just use the Network Cable that came with it to get the files I need?

Yeah ive wondered this too, is there a way to transfer files over the network. Ill assume its possible in Linux but not so sure

iPod if you got one? I don't know what the connectivity is like but if you enable hard disk use, maybe it will work?

Why wouldnt larger flash memory work or what about an external hdd (the ps3 should recognize this)??

you need one of these http://www.usb-ware.com/usb-2-usb-data-link-file-transfer-cable-uc250.htm

The PS3 OS does not support file sharing over a LAN, I doubt it ever will.
Perhaps the OS will eventually allow you to transfer music and media files, but other extensions will be excluded more than likely... I would try puting the files on a CD or DVD ROM disk, but that's a long shot depending on the file type... I think the suggestions above are the most viable options. Peace

PS: I doubt the cable above would work, because the PS3 may not recognize the PC as a "PC" and only allow you to move media files. (PC would be recognized as a media player) It's just a guess, if someone has done this successfully feel free to prove me wrong.
Also, anything done on the Linux partition is not available on the Playstation OS unless someone has pulled off some Linux magic... ;)

well you could either use a cd/dvd/ipod or you could use a sata/ide to usb cable and transfer that way.

or you could install linux and set up samba shares.

Does Ps3 recognize Data Cd's? What's the best alternative to building up a music library, and uh...how would I go about getting Naruto on my PS3? (avi. mov. Files)

I don't know how PS3's HD is formatted but providing it's something
PC compatible you could try something like this.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2477962&CatId=2214
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1472797&CatId=470

You have to be careful with the latter though, hook it up incorrectly and you'll fry your HD.

You need SATA, not IDE

there are a couple of ways. U can use any external storage type, it will recognize a data cd/dvd, ipod,,exteranl hdd (only FAT32 tho?), etc.

another way is to also use RedKawa's File Server, setting up the PC side as a server and PS3 accessing it through the web browser and downloading it that way.

heres the link: www . redkawa . com/fileserver/

it works so far for me for a couple of 100 MBs big of files.

or you could just get any old file hosting service for free and upload via ftp and download via ps3

If you can set up an Apache server then it's easy. On a Mac Preferences > Sharing > Click Personal Web Sharing, you're done. Then you can copy files to your PS3 just by clicking on them.

No idea how you do such things on Windows.

^You download the Apache client free from the net.

Anyway, you could also remove your PS3's HDD, nuy an external USB-HDD box, plug it into your PC, and voila!

Omni: I don't think the XMB can play XVID files, the format used for the Naruto anime.

Could you not use an external hdd, or a flash memory stick.

being able to move anything from your PC to your PS3 could be detrimental to the security of the PS3s OS, so this will never be allowed... IMO

Using my idea, it'd be fully possible to transfer whatever you want, presuming that the PS3 HDD is formatted with NTFS, of course.

Be careful, while the PS3 recognizes external HDD formatted in FAT32, it does not recognize external HDD in NTFS. Problem is, FAT32 does not allow files of more than 4Gb, and most HD files are bigger than that ... I don't know if the internal HDD of the PS3 allows for files bigger than 4Gb. I am waiting for a proper streaming support in PS3 Linux to stream movies directly from my PC.

Linux uses FAT32 right? So can you have files larger than 4GB with Linux? You could also emlpoy some type of win-rar like compression to bust the file into smaller chunks. However you will only be able to do that within Linux.

Interesting ideas fellas, I think some of the options are too left field...
If the browser allows you to download files to the PS3 that's the most viable option IMO. I would be surprised if the browser allows downloads of any file type, because where would the file be placed in the PS3's OS (i.e. video, pics or music)?

Honestly you may need to breakdown and purchase an external memory source; you can find 1GB SD cards for less than $30 USD at Tiger direct...

Linux uses FAT32 right? So can you have files larger than 4GB with Linux? If you mean "compatible with FAT32", yes, indeed it is. However, the default file system is EXT3 (EXT4 since October, I think), and yes, it allows files larger than 4 GB.

Guys....What if I put all my Naruto/Music/videos on an Ipod? I could simply copy right to the PS3 correct?

Also, is there an way to put the different media in there respective categories?

^ I believe most files on the ipod are MP3 or MP4/AVC so it should be no problem... As far as puting the media in categories you can do this, but only in it's respective folder. (i.e. pics, videos, music, games)

Linux does support FAT32 but does not use it by default when formatting, usually the file systems are EXT3 (or 4 very soon) or ReiserFS. These are journaling file systems and far far superior to FAT32 or NTFS. They barely need defragmenting, ever.

They allow for file sizes MUCH MUCH bigger then 4GB.

(i.e. pics, videos, music, games)Looks like I need an Ipod...there isn't a cheaper way to get vids on PS3 is there? I don't wanna remove my HDD or anything...and I don't even think my Dell has a flash card drive.

Just to show how Important my Naruto is....http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=12080

There's better ones out there..but there's nothing like seeing your own work eh? And it was done with crappy windows media player!
