How the heck can I tell how much HD space I have used and how much I have left on the PS3 60GB? I read through the manual and could not find anything on hard drive space.

I presume this is a stupid question, but I do not have the answer - anyone?

Go to system settings, then head on down to system information.

OK, just had a chance to look it up. Worked just as you said Punk. Wish I had enuf posts to rep ya bro. thx

Anyway, almost wished I never found it - lol. I see right from the get go I have been jacked 5GB for god knows what and I have already used an additional 9GB - ugh. I shutter to think how much more I am gonna lose once I load FFXI in.

Anyway - I am having a blast with this machine. Other than the "missing" 5GB which is prob needed for the system, the PS3 just never disappoints. It is truly a fine piece of tech.

The 5GB is not missing it comes from the confusion that manufactures measure the space to the base 10 (gigabyte = 1000MB) while the correct way to measure it is to the base 2 (gibibyte = 1024MB) Almost everyone gets this wrong and thinks a gigabyte = 1024MB when it does not.

Then there is also a small amount of space lost to formating tables.

yeah but it is easier to just say 100000MB instead of 102400MiB

so they should make the storage space that easy as well. it won't cost them much if anything to actually add a tiny bit more so that the space would really be what is indicated or a little more.

they have gotten into their ways, switching from base 10 to base 2 is something that they would not like.
