View Full Version : Anyone remember this??
A few years ago someone emailed be a .exe file that had a bunch of classic nintendo games. It had Super Mario 1, 2 & 3 and a bunch of other games. You could play all these games on your computer. My computer crashed & I lost it!!!
I've been searching for it ever since and can't find it. Has anyone seen anything similar?

There's this crazy thing called "Roms". You can download them off of the "Internet". However they are deemed as "Illigal". So you can just go buy Super Mario All Stars for snes. :D

not illegal if you actually own hard copies of the game. The legality of roms is a grey area due to the fact that the web sites destributing them do not actually check to make sure you own the games.

That is incorrect. No video game company has allowed a software backup of a purchased game. Computer games aside.
I've already researched this for reasons wholly unrelated.

Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?
There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.

roms are just like downloadable music... and as soon as the video game industry gets to big enough, and they are widespread enuff, they'll prolly go after 'em w/ just as much force as the music industry went after Napster..

In 2 years, the Video game industry will earn more money than the music industry and will become the largest form of entertainment in America.
Better get ready to dump all your ROMs.

I can't figure why anybody would think there would be any reason at all for playing a console game that one already owns on their PC. Playing an SNES game, for example, will be way better on one's SNES than on their PC, especially since most folks that play ROM's probably just use their keyboards for them, and keyboards suck for such gaming.

Keyboards are hard to use. Especially in fighting games.
