Ok, I loved Sonic with all my heart and soul as a little kid.
And now, Sonic for 360 makes me cry:
Worthless loading time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naVshTpD9l0&eurl=)
Worthless, worthless storyline (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPcGGHtKqyQ&eurl=) ((BIG SPOILERS!!!!!))
Ok, maybe the storyline I could get past.... but not the loading. That's just... UGH. What the heck, Sega? You are destroying my childhood idol.

Wow, that was god awful. What a way to use the 360.
I dont think Sonic is dead.
Sonic's true home ever since the demise of Dreamcast has always been Nintendo consoles.
Sonic has always been a top seller on GameCube. With Secret Rings, I think Sega will do the Sonic franchise justice.
And the Wii audience will reward it properly with sales and support.

Ahmahgahd, she kissed him!
Wow. Last time I checked Sonic was a cartoon-style character. I knew Sega screwed it up, but I didn't think it was this bad. Thankfully, The Secret Rings looks like it'll remain pure and won't have any soap opera moments or characters you'd expect to find in Final Fantasy.

What an embarrassment.

While I agree that Sonic in 3-D has always been rather bad, I have to admit that I had a strange affection for SCA2 Battle. I played it frequently while knowing full well that it wasn't a good game. Maybe it was that cool song in the pyramid stage.
Sega has had a good five years to fix any problems that the original Dreamcast Sonic games had and they've really done a half-assed job of it. The games are getting progressively worse, when the oppostite should be happening. Sonic doesn't NEED an "epic" storyline and a secondary cast of dumb animals with horrible voices.

^ Same with me. I loved Battle 2. I really liked the Halloween-ish song, Pyramids song (effing a!), and the main theme (sorta, I can still remember the lyric part where he says he has to "follow his rainbow." :()

I actually found the Big the Cat segments in Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast very entertaining.

They need and all new side scroller Sonic for PSP, that is my 2 cents. If they did that, I would get it. And have WiFi multi-player with different characters. And include ALL of the old Sonics. The would kick ass.....

I used to enjoy the Sonic games on the Genesis, and I liked Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (GCN), but when they brought the previous Sonic Adventure to the GCN I disliked it and I haven't cared for anything from the series since. I was hoping that the most recent game would have been better, but it let me down. I've given up on Sonic, personally.

Somebody goofed big time. It's like they empty the RAM completely instead of keeping the environment, physics, textures, etc....
Sonic on DS and Wii seem to harken back to the roots.....finally.
Oh and why the hell are they adding Brain Age style puzzles into a frikkin sonic game anyway? That's like stopping in World 3-4 in Mario to fuck a hooker, kick her ass and take your money back. I just doesn't fit the game.

I actually found the Big the Cat segments in Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast very entertaining.Wierdo. All Sonic needs is Tails and Knuckles. If the less pointless "new" characters such as Amy, Shadow (pre-gun), E-102 and Rogue (Rouge?) want to have minor roles, that's fine if it's just for color, but the bigger they make the cast the lamer it becomes. Especially if some of the new characters are normal human princesses.

I don't know.. for me the "cast of Sonic" will always be the people who are in the earlier comics, and everyone else I've very resistant to like. I liked the 'big' array of characters from back then. I'm sort of pissed that no Sonic game ever used that cast of characters.

I lost all interest in Sonic ever since the games went 3D. I loved the classic ones on Master System and Megadrive / Genesis, and I remember I always wanted to play Sonic CD (which I did recently). However, I always found myself unable to like any of the 3D Sonic games so far.
As far as I'm concerned: RIP

I second this.
Absolutely. The series has been floundering in mediocrity since 3-D gaming became the norm. They have failed to find the balance that Nintendo's big-time dynasties have managed to attain.
I do agree that the Sonic franchise has some troubling, life-threatening illnesses. But I think we all agree that the idea of the franchise dying would be a very negative thing.
There's a certain charm and magic to the mascot platformer genre that's been integral to the game industry for decades. I'd hate to see it lost.

God they just keep....adding dumb shit!
No!
Just...strip the game down to it's core, everything it was 13 years ago. Then put it in the crash bandicoot, aka 'sonic's ass' camera perspective, switch it up with some old school side scrolling perspective and control what the hell is going on in the levels, and GET THAT FRIGGIN CAMERA RIGHT, and you have a Grade-A Sonic T. Hedgehog game! You'd think somebody at Sonic friggin Team would realize this by now!! What the hell?? Who's in charge over there? Someone needs to tell him to either tighten up, or to fall on his sword.
There.

I think the best sonic game in 3D form is Sonic Adventure 1 (Dreamcast). I know it has camera problems, but nevertheless, I enjoyed playing it. Sonic Adventure 2 was also good, but not that good compared to the first one.
I was planning to buy the new sonic.....until I read the reviews....maybe I should keep my money and use it for something else...

LaLiLuLeLo I agree. They should make a side scrolling sonic game with upgraded graphics and have bad ass boss battles like the old ones. I was actually just playing Sonic & Knuckles and the boss battles are fun.
The Sonic formula just doesn't work too well in a 3D environment. Sonic Adventure was a sweet game, but the fact that you have to play as these other characters is bullshit. I suppose that's something that really bothers me: The Sonic games are no longer about Sonic.
There's also the fact that when you do play as Sonic, most of the time you aren't even controlling him. If you move yay fast, the game just takes over. Loops? Let go of that controller, buddy. It ain't happening. I still love Sonic the Hedgehog, but SEGA is just killing him, it would seem. I'm waiting to see how the Wii game turns out. Also, if Sonic makes it in SSBB, then I think his record will be cleared.

I totally agree with you on that. In the Genesis games, there'd be times where you run through stuff so fast that you feel out of control but it's not that often. (Although, I feel like it was more common in Sonic & Knuckles than any previous game, but even still not overwhelming.) And then in the newer games, you don't know what the crap is going on. Even the 2D games on GBA had more out-of-control moments. I know Sonic is about speed, but if you're not doing any of the work, who cares?

My sister is SERIOUSLY into the Sonic franchise. She gets the comics she has the plushies...she even made her own characters and ALL of her friends are into it just as much. I agree the games seriously suck ass...my sister even thinks so too now because she traded in Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog. I can't convince her not to buy them. Yesterday she rented Sonic Riders to see if it was any good. She also is going to rent Sonic Rivals and Sonic the Hedgehog. She's also psyched about Sonic and the Secret Rings (Wii). It's just too bad it's all gone down the toilet. The only good one so far was Sonic Rush (yes she owns that too).

But the other characters were fun... except for Big and at times Amy.
Well, sometimes playing at the other characters was fun. Tails was not fun to play as because there wasn't a real point. You have to race Sonic to a Chaos Emerald? Why? I'm pretty sure you and Sonic are on the same team, so why race him to it? He wasn't much better in SA2 either.
Knuckles had a different agenda, but the fact that it was recycled in SA2 was blah. How many times can that Master Emerald keep breaking? I commend SEGA for trying something different with that game. I really enjoyed the adventure aspect of it, but some of the other things fell flat. Take Amy and Big...I didn't like playing as them and it was a chore. Of course, in SA2, no one was really fun to play as because I either wasn't controlling them or it was the same nonsense over and over.
But, I'm still giving SEGA some credit. They're experimenting with the series, which is good. The problem is that they haven't found a solid formula to stick too, so we end up getting games like Sonic Riders and Shadow the Hedgehog.

The problem is that they haven't found a solid formula to stick too, so we end up getting games like Sonic Riders and Shadow the Hedgehog.
And Sonic Spinball...and Sonic Drift, and Sonic Labrynth...they have almost every type of genre out there...next they're going to do what they do with Mario and stick them in every sports game on earth....They are already making a Sonic MMORPG!!! It was confirmed back in March and there's been no word since then. Man I'm glad my little sister isn't reading all this or you'd get lectured and told off by her and she'd tell everything she knows! Nightmares!!
I have no idea how a Sonic MMORPG would even work. Nothing in the Sonic series strikes me as "RPG-like." Let alone "MMORPG-like." In SEGA's defense, Sonic R was a decent racing game involving Sonic, and it actually made sense. No need for hoverboards or karts....just straight up running.

I have no idea why, but it was fun. He can freaking fly.
But the emphasis was never quite on his flying skills. It was that he was Sonic's little bitch and Tails had to somehow prove that he was faster than he was...or something. See, I liked how Tails could fly in Adventure 1 because it was a nice way to find secret areas. Too bad SEGA didn't do something like that again with SA2. They just made him play like E-101.

Nothing would make a good MMO? You obviously haven't read the insanely good story in the Sonic Comics!

I haven't. Finding decent comic books in my city is a bit hard. None of the book stores really care to sell any. But the concept sounds baffling. The games have always represented something more action oriented, so it's a bit hard for me to think of a Sonic game revovling around leveling up and all of that fun jazz.

Anyways yeah Sonic X sucks giant dolphin ginava. I saw the intro and was like "Wow that doesn't actually look horrible!". So I downloaded the series on bittorrent, watched five minutes of the first episode and deleted the 30+ gigs of crap that had just infected my Windows.
Okay, I was seriously thinking about investing my money into Sonic for the 360. (Despite my complaints about the newer Sonic games, I still play them. I'm compelled to because....they're Sonic games [this excludes Shadow the Hedgehog]). Anyway, those videos kind of made me think otherwise. The story was already going to be bad. I knew this because a good friend of mine sent me a clip of a particular scene. I just kind of rolled my eyes at it.
But those loading times are fucking ridiculous. I felt like I was watching someone play the PS1. Except when playing the PS1, the load times were acceptable. Seriously, why does it take so long to load a few lines of text? I can see SEGA really doesn't want to emphasize anything on speed when it comes to Sonic games.
And I like how the guy recording that clip noted the boxes not being perfectly alligned. Why was the 3 box sideways? and Why were boxes 1-3 pushed back and grouped together?
