Hopefully this will get rid of all the distro-specific stuff that new users get annoyed about.

It's a start, the best thing they could do is make it so that the standard way to distribute packages is not through source, sometimes it can be very hard to install, they should come up with a standard package format and just leave the sources easily available.

they should set up an entire repository somewhere where almost every single app for linux is held and all distros can access it using smartpm/synaptic.

or something like that

I'm just hooked on gentoo that's all and they have killer faqs which all concern emerge hehe

I NEED faqs.. cause i'm a dumbass ;)

lol, i couldn't live without my official ubuntu guide, carry it everywhere i go (metaphorically)

on a side note, it is interesting to see the explosion of interest in Linux suddenly on these boards.

i don't think it's the case that everyone is just becoming intetested in linux...

more like they know they,re actually going to get a useful(ish) reply....

i think it is just because of the PS3, sparked a bit of interest, and with more people joining, more people can help others.
