hows everyone doin, its been a while since I posted but I need a place rto let off a little steam and I thought I might see what you guys think. Heres the deal, I've had my PS3 since dec 4 it was very fun up untill about 2 weeks ago but now it is getting pretty rediculos. Sony needs to stop acting like the thing actually exsists. sure it can do a lot of cool stuff take this post for example right from the ps3 and i am happy about that, but when you look deeper their are a ton of probloms. first off lets get the flash up to date it is stupied that i can not even look at ps3 games official sites on the ps3 itself. next up why is their no music service if apple made a system they would put i tunes on it so where the hell is connet. and why is the PSstore so crappy I don't care what they have to put on their as long as we don't go 10 days without any signs of life at sony. also were its the ability to play psone downloads on ps3 the turn of the year is like january to me not nearly febuary or god forbid march.

I just think Sony is not pushing the PS3 in the right places. We need to see it on TV and I am crossing my fingers on some unfogettable super bowl com but we cant count on it. i hate ms but sony isz doing a great job of makes them look like the god of gaming in the publics eye. and if they end up winning this war i am out on video games. i refuse to support any american companies due to the way they have ruined this country. i am just really not happy with sony right now.
so do yo u guys think i am over reacting minus the ms deal or is sony really not getting the ps3 to the gamers and general public like a com pany in their situation should.

PS3LNO, I will provide my thoughts regarding your concerns:
first off lets get the flash up to date it is stupied that i can not even look at ps3 games official sites on the ps3 itself.
Agreed... The PS3 browser should support Flash, I'm not sure if this is a Macromedia/Sony issue or some technical delimma... Here's one solution, but it's not the easiest approach; install YDL and run Firefox as the browser.
next up why is their no music service if apple made a system they would put i tunes on it so where the hell is connet. and why is the PSstore so crappy I don't care what they have to put on their as long as we don't go 10 days without any signs of life at Sony. also were its the ability to play psone downloads on ps3 the turn of the year is like january to me not nearly febuary or god forbid march.
I think this is an unreasonable request considering the PS3 & PSN just launched a few months ago. It will take time for the PSN to mature from a content perspective. I would like to see more game trailers and demos ASAP to create excitement. I'm not sure if we will see downloadable TV, movie & music anytime in the near future... Hopefully the new firmware in March will allow a more robust experience with the PS3 OS and multi-tasking. The rumors floating around make the new firmware sound like a huge step in the right direction. Also, it took Microsoft about a year to really tweak XBox Live with the 360 to have such a good product today. Sony has started on the right foot and if March provides some solid updates I will be impressed...
I just think Sony is not pushing the PS3 in the right places. We need to see it on TV and I am crossing my fingers on some unfogettable super bowl com but we cant count on it.
I agree Sony has done a poor job justifying the high price point of the PS3, but I have seen several commercials on ESPN, MTV & sporting events; some commercials are even in HD! There's still plenty of room for advertising improvement... Perhaps once more solid software is available Sony will step up their marketing machine.
i hate ms but sony isz doing a great job of makes them look like the god of gaming in the publics eye. and if they end up winning this war i am out on video games. i refuse to support any american companies due to the way they have ruined this country. i am just really not happy with sony right now.
The first part of your statement concerning Sony getting bad press & Microsoft getting a pass from the media I agree. I suppose everyone wants to cheer the underdog it's the American way... Also, I think Microsoft has performed a solid FUD campaign against the PS3.
The second part of your statement regarding American companies makes absolutely no sense to me... It's not capitalism or business causing all the problems in the US. I would place the blame squarely on our elected government officials. (Don't want to turn this into a political discussion)
I want to see all the consoles prosper, because the consumer benefits from competition and choice. If we have a monopoly from an American or Japanese company it's not good for the consumer.
Honestly, I would just chill man the PS3 is still young and it's going to take time for things to solidify... I'm somewhat concerned with some of Sony's marketing and PR moves, but ultimately I think we have a solid product with the PS3. There's several impressive titles scheduled for the PS3 in 2007 and if these titles deliver the PS3 will have a lot of momentum going into the 2007 holiday season. If we are having discussions like this next year I will definitely be worried and disappointed with my PS3, but I highly doubt that. Also, take a little more time to clean up your post with spacing, spelling and thought. (Don't take that the wrong way man...) Peace

Very good post Nameless. I totally agree. I'm actually quite exited to find out where we stand next Christmas. I thing that we'll be looking back at now and laughing. 2007 really stands to be the year of the PS3 (from a PS3 vs. 360 perspective, I feel Wii will take the sales crown this year). It just has far too many killer titles coming out that are capturing a lot of attention. 2008 already even has some really promising titles that we have seen, and many 2nd gen titles that we haven't even heard of yet that will make this year's crop old news. PS3 has some life in it, so I wouldn't be worried one bit about it. There's just far too much potential there for it to fail.

Yes it is alarming for all these systems. I still question if I'd have been better off just getting a 360 and waiting on my Wii...but give it some time. Things should look up for you. But I agree, for $500-$600 Sony better do something soon to make it's fans feel the investment was justified.

I don't think Sony will really hit home with their advertising until they have spare units to sell. There is no point, they'll just annoy a lot of people. The PS3 hasn't even been fully launched yet and there's no point until they have units they can't shift.
I think the US launch was too early, they would have prefered to launch worldwide this March when the infrastructure was better developed, but couldn't afford to in the States due to the competition from MS.
Expect the real marketing push to come Autumn-Winter 2007 (IMO).

I also totally agree there. The US launch was a quick rush job to snag some holiday sales away from MS, and it worked. However people expected Sony to come storming out of the gates and shoot straight to first place, when they didn't have the available hardware to do so no matter how good or bad they sold.

I don't know about the snagging, but I'm sure Sony would have much preferred to sent everythin by sea. They launched in November so they wouldn't be criticised as much by the media (as much).
Yes, I think Sony is well aware that you don't need a media blitz to assure the early adopters they made the right decision. You need to time it according to what would otherwise be a lull in demand.

They need to get their first-party titles out asap instead of relying on third-party multiplatform titles that are in general not very polished, they need to start showing games like LAIR and Heavenly Sword BIG TIME instead of this jerking around and the secrecy non-sense, that's what they need to do, it's that simple.

Clever thread title and a good post man. +rep
Solution to all your problems (maybe even MS): Give it a bit more time.
I agree with your first post (I'll leave your second one). things like Flash support, background downloading, custom sound tracks, etc. should have been a no-brainer, especially that the competition had went through these issues that PS3 is facing now.
the Store needs to move things along. why should we wait to see PSOne and even PS2 games on it playable on PS3? Namco did great by giving us Tekken with extras on it. they may want to push the PSOne to PSP approach inititally, but I say break open the gates.
Connect is another thing all together. I don't know what MS is doing for their music support for X2, but why the Hell isn't SonicStage/Connect/Sony Music jumping all over PSN? it is a potentially huge new market.
some may ask to give it time, and although there doesn't seem much we can do anyway, what makes matters worse is that all of our complaints and demands are software related and thus should be easier, quicker and cheaper for them to handle them.

I think Sony needs to push the PS3 a bit harder too in the media.
The only thing I think I can say they are doing well in is that I'm seeing many advertisements for movies that say "Get it on DVD and Blu Ray Disc today!"
But Sony really has to put the PS3 as well right under people's noses.
@Z - I think I would like to see some Sony divisions working more cohesively as well. Sony Music or BMG (that's what it is called right?) really should be promoting the PS3 indirectly and directly. Sony Music, the movie division, SCE, they are basically sister companies, I mean, help each other out, jeez.
And PSN, get those god damn PS1 and 2 titles ASAP, especially the PS2 fix B/C. Those should be pretty high as well on the priorities list.
Still, the highest priority should be stuffing the PS3 into everyone's face at every opportunity they can afford. Blu Ray is key, and showing some insane gameplay vids of Motorstorm wouldn't be too shabby either.

I personally think Sony is waiting for PS3's TRUE launch, in March. After that they'll actually have a software library worth mentioning, and some killer exclusives as well. Not to mention there will be more and better Blu-Ray titles out for them to advertise also. Sony has made some bad advertising decisions latley, (such as this terrible attempt at being cool (http://youtube.com/watch?v=0G0LlXv-nyI)) and I think they've learned their lesson and are sitting quiet and researching the proper way to move forward from this point. We are currently in a gaming sales drought, so it's no surprise to me that Sony isn't really trying to push PS3 right now. It just wouldn't make sense to try to advertise a product a lot when the entire industry is in a lull. After most people have had the chance to recover from their Christmas spending and they start buying games again, then we'll see PS3's advertising pick up.

I can imagine that. The Euro launch will probably be the most extravagant one they'll have pulled together. The real push may just start soon after the Euro launch, good point.
I visualize giant 'Casino Royale on Blu Ray Disc' posters for the Blu Ray pushing btw lol.
Good point about the games stream starting then too.

Thanks for all of the thoughts guys. I am not worried about march right now, I have a good frealing March will turn up the dial. I am expecting the March update to give a lot of great features. I think we will see coustom sound tracks, XMB acsess from within games, better network features , PSone/2 emulators with upsacling and maby some other forms of media on the store. I still wish they would have gotten a little more game trailers and 3rd party support on the store now, but by December it wont be a big deal. Playstation 3 is the most powerful home entertainment system avilable and we are only scratching the suface of its power. Anyway thanks again for the thoughts, and god I hope Sony starts takin names in march!!

I feel they will, most certainly. Also, there are plans for movies and TV show downloads for PSN. Let's not forget that Sony owns a HUGE chunk of TV media and movies as well.

The North American/Japanese PS3 owners right now are essentially the software beta testers, working out the kinks. the Euro launch would be killer if the first 500,000 - 1,000,000 units came with Casino Royale for free. the first party games need to get out there, and everything Sony said at that ThreeSpeech event in London about the update better be in there(multitasking, new XMB display options, etc). Not to mention EyeToy HD.
the store needs some user created content, which can come from Grouper Videos, and music/movies from Sony Connect. throw in some more demos and trailers (and fl0w) and you've got a damn good store.

Not to mention music. Just need more cooperation between the divisions. They have a lot of music in their libraries. I think Sony's movies and music are their more important media strengths.

PS3LNO, I would suggest that take a deep breath, start saving some money, and brace yourself for the PS3 in 2007 - even 2008. The PS3 has barely learnt to crawl, and look at what it's given us: Resistance. If that doesn't get you excited for the future of the PS3, then I don't know what will. That's like your 3 month old kid doing back somersaults leaping off his crib. Think about what dev's will be giving you (no, not your multiplatform guys...I'm referring to the 1st and 2nd party guys - and even the exclusive 3rd party games to an extend) in the next 12 months. We already know of some killer games coming up, but I'm sure we know less than what's actually on it's way.
Music, TV, Movies etc. I believe will appear when the time is right. Maybe SONY's just waiting to see if the PSN really is secure enough to dump all that stuff on it. I know with Stringer in charge, he'll be pushing hard for different departments to better communicate with each other, and to use all their available resources to push their available contents. So with SONY's music and TV library, I'm positive the only question is: "When can we expect to see this happening?" After the UK/rest of world launch, then the floodgates will slowly open, and I hope your pockets are deep enough to really soak it all up!

The problem...
Sony hasn't bothered to consult David Jaffe about its problems.

lol.
and for all of those doubting a purchase; hanging on a while won't kill you. I personally cannot wait to get a unit. but for some with doubt, just give it time to see more desirable games of your own liking. don't let people tell you what's good and what's not. go out there and see for your self.
