View Full Version : Would an HDMI 1.0 TV work alright?

I am looking at buying an HDTV and the one I like has 2 HDMI 1.0 inputs, I don't really care about deep color or any of those 1.3 features so don't go telling me to wait for HDMI 1.3 and all of that. I was just wondering if it would still send the audio and video signal properly from my PS3 and if it would still work in 720P (I am not going for a 1080P TV either maybe after I am through college) also if it would work with Blu-ray and DVD's properly.
This is the TV if that is needed. Television (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNS3251D-Wide-Integrated-Tuner/dp/B000ELSY0I/ref=dp_return_1/002-2857282-5732033?ie=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics)

If it has HDCP it should work fine!

Yes...
HDMI is backward compatible to all previous standards.
If you are not concerned with 1.3 features roll with the TV you found...
I have not found any HDMI 1.3 televisions on the market yet, if anyone has seen some models please post links. (+rep for any success)

They won't really start rolling out until later this year.

What's the best brand? Sony/Samsung? Doesn't matter:shrug:
I'm think I'm just gonna go for a 720p. 1080p is too freakin expensive and the price drops aren't happening quick enough. I wanna play VF5/MS/Resistance how they are supposed to be...

Are there any additional features an HDMI 1.2a TV would give over 1.0?

Omni, What's your price range, because 1080P televisions are becoming more reasonably priced... If my memory serves me correctly you can find a 1080P westinghouse 42" for a little over 1K. (Not a bad price!)
PS: Here's a link:

The television got strong reviews for a gaming display...

Now that I think about it I may buy the 37" Westinghouse and use it as a computer display...

Everywhere I go online people say awesome stuff about that Westinghouse, I probably should have bought that model instead of my 1200p monitor.

It's perfectly capable of carrying a 1080p signal. I have one (Monster), the company stands by it even though it's not advertised in the box. If you're looking for a very capable display without the huge cost, I recommend either one of these
32" http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=011531&cid=MT.753

Check one out if you ever get a chance because they're cheap and look fantastic. They're better than the 1080p version and support everything but 1080p. I use the 42" one with my DAW and love it (incase u haven't noticed).
They are by far the best in their class.

Go with Samsung. Sony products have a bad reputation for ceasing to work.

No they don't. I run my entire video production company on Sony products, and they've all worked flawlessly for several years.

Sorry, but that is the most stupid statement i've heard all day.

I wonder where people get that from (other than the random Sony haters on the internet).
My dad (clever man, couldn't care less about company bullshit) buys most of his stuff from Sony (he doesn't even know it's Sony though, he just buys the best spec/ the most useful thing he can find) and nothing that has a Sony name on it broke in my house.
We used a Sony TV for 10 years without a problem before moving onto another Sony TV which is now going strong for five years.
I dug up a Sony Walkman the other day to play my 'Kiss' cassette and it still worked.
DVD Player has also been going strong for about 7 years now (maybe more).
I really could go on but I don't want to further derail this thread.
Pleae only say "sony crap sucks" if you are speaking from personal experience and if you haven't smacked your Sony stuff with a hammer.
This random "wtf" Sony hating gets annoying.
OnTopic: It's pretty safe to say Sony Bravia are one of the best (if not, the best) HD-TVs around.

If sony tv's were unreliable, they would not be #1 in 06.

Nearly every Sony product I've owned has failed on me. My old Sony WEGA that I bought brand new died in a year, my $250 Sony stereo system died in about the same amount of time, (both right after the warranties expired), I am on my third PS2...my friend's Sony Vaio that she purchased at the beginning of last school semester has a screen that doesn't work. I know 5 friends that have also replaced their PS2 at least once. My sister bought a camera and it had problems right out of the box, same with a friends television.
Keep in mind, I very careful with all of my tech stuff. I am anal about it. Maybe I am extremely unlucky but it isn't just me, and because of that I have learned not to buy into Sony's tech sh*t anymore. If Omni wants to risk it, go ahead, but Samsung is reliable, sleek, high quality, and much more affordable.

^^ I have not owned many Sony products, just the PSOne, PS2, PSP, Viao laptop & a stereo reciever several years ago... I had no problems with the PSOne and my PS2 was solid for about 4 years & then I had to replace it. The laptop, PSP & stereo reciever were solid with no problems... I had the most problems with my controllers, I had to replace controllers very frequently & the USB headset. I did not throw the controllers or headset...
Overall Sony has a decent track record regarding their products IMO.

Not sure if this has been brought up but you need to make sure that it is at least HDMI 1.10. or greater. HDMI did not add HDCP support until version 1.10

Thanks for the responses guys, so looks like I am going with a different set, does anyone see any problems with this one, it was my second choice after the Samsung, and if the Samsung doesn't support HDCP or DVD-Audio I guess its not even an option.
