A PS3 hooked up to a 200 inch projection screen with a, get this, $1200 HDMI cable. What a dumbass.

Holy snot! Just take a look at Japanese gadget critic Yoshio Ohara's set-up. So sweet that a 20GB PS3 was hauled over to his house to see how it would look connected with a US $1,200 HDMI cable and projected on a 200-inch theater screen. Once hooked up, things like reading the print on the initial screens were difficult — Most likely, due to the fact the game wasn't designed for 200 inches. That aside, playing Ridger Racer 7 was compared to riding a theme park ride. Can you imagine? Brian Ashcraft

one might say that's a bit excessive, but hey if you have a 200" TV by all means spend $1200 on a cable.

I have to agree with it being a complete waste. But he obviously makes lots of money.

I think the title should put more emphasis on the 200" =-o TV!

How the hell is this a waste? I think it's money well spent

When you buy a theatre screen (!) for your home, the HDMI cable is going to be expensive.

You probably can't buy it in the open market.

^^ It's more than likely due to the length & grade of the cord...
I would imagine the throw distance of a projector to a 200" screen would be several meters. I would assume repeaters would be needed in addition to a high grade very long HDMI cable. I agree $1200 sounds excessive, but when you have really high end home theater setups prices can sound astronomical to us mere mortals. Peace

It's funny because a 20$ cable would give exactly the same quality.

the ones and zero's don't come out better in that stupid expensive cable.

^ That's not exactly true...
If you use projectors the distance plays a factor and the longer the cord the higher the price. I'm sure you could find a cheaper HDMI solution for a projector using a 200" screen, but some people don't bargain shop if they can afford to pay $1200 for a cord... Just food for thought.

I'd take the 200" if it did 4000x2000res. and I have something that could display at that level other than a stationary windows or linux desktop

I have a projector, and my computer monitor is about 120' (only because the wall doesn't allow me to get any bigger. I don't care how long the cable is, $1200 is a blatant rip off. Just put your PS3 closer to your projector, there's no need to do it otherwise seeing as how it's controllers are totally wireless.

It's funny that they make it out to be some sort of expensive system that he has there. You can get a 120' screen for like $500, and a decent projector for ~$2000. I have no clue why anyone would want or need a $1200 HDMI cable (digital is digital is digital, you can't get better picture quality, it either works or doesn't) but it's not like the guy has some setup that cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars. My friend has a 120' screen and a projector he got off ebay for $3k (about 4 years ago) and PS3 looks SICK on it.

i just don't know why you would be so stupid to buy such a darn expensive cable, your just paying for the sake of paying!

Instead of buying that $1200 HDMI cable, he should have just bought me a PS3.

Wii is supposed to be fun on this lo♪

wii would be horribly pixelated.

i would love a big screen, but that's just overkill, your eyes would get worn out after a day of gaming as they have to move a lot to catch all the visual data.
